Yea, I'm guessing it wasn't in the client then. My first purchase showing up that isn't complimentary is Audiosurf on 7/26/08
It might actually be tied to specific games as well after a certain date.

It was the other day. And about ten more times over the last two or three years.

What order is the Tomb Raider Trilogy played in?
Release is Legend, Anniversary, Underworld.

Story I think is Anniversary first, I'm not sure someone can correct.

I tried the pre paid CC and now my own CC which ALWAYS WORKS and now none of them work.

I got my pass changed for the support site and it's still asking me to verify it by email.

"Please confirm your account by following the instructions in your welcome email. If you have not received the welcome email you can have it resent."

I've done that like 10 times now.

Also if CoH tickles your fancy, be sure to check out the Dawn of War series from the same developer. One of my favorite PC games in the last few years.

And if you don't have much experience with strategy games, you may not want to venture online right away because it will likely demoralize you forever.

But that's with every game. There is a ranking system and if you use match making your best bet to find players on your levels.

Sweet, thanks for the replies.

Do they all support widescreen natively?

Yes, at least 16:9. 16:10 might be stretched 16:9. Although I vaguely remember running into some problems with the graphics of anniversary and legend, something about enabling the "next gen effects"? Can't remember, but if you run into any problems, try disabling those.

NO, fuck matchmaking.

RTS games are meant to be played with friends, and using skype/mumble.
Red alert 2 in a LAN with a friend is the most hilarious thing ever, mind games, talking trash , bluffing, giggling like a schoolgirl if you manage to weasel your way out of a tactic that should have ended you.

(seriously:p)

DoW shares some bits of an engine but not development talent. I learned that the hard way, full price.

Team Matchmaking?

Guessing your talking about against friends. Back in the day my ISP had a 2 hour connection limit till it would automatically disconnect you. So my goal in Red Alert was to block all paths and defend for 2 hours and call it a draw. I sucked at that game, would whoop my mates ass in Age of Empires though :D but yeah playing against friends is the best type of fun.

2 amazing games.

Was World in Conflict good? I remember thinking it looked awesome when it came out, but I've largely forgotten about it.

It was very good... surprisingly good story and presentation from a somewhat modern military RTS.

Fuck owned myself with RIFT. I forgot to remember that most MMO companies are fucking scammers. I can't make use of the free month without giving my credit card details(yeah fuck you Trion, I'm never giving my credit card info to you). Or I have to buy a game card(yeah, I'll totally support your scamming ways). Fucking 15 euro down the drain.

Um, pull the sand out of your pussy. What is so bad about putting in the CC info and then canceling?

Did you only expect to play it for a month or something? I thought this was how most MMO's work.

I don't trust trashy companies with my credit card info. Is it really that surprising?

Yes, my brother bought it, figured I play a bit with him. I like playing MMO's for a few weeks before I form an opinion.

It's how thrashy MMO's work. WoW for example, doesn't have such trashy policies. I guess trashy company can't make money in other ways.

My friend bought it for $9.99 during the Father's Day sale from Trion, they sold the MMO WITHOUT GAMETIME (to be fair, they did say it didn't include gametime, but he missed it) - and the first time he logged in after installing they automatically billed him $15 for his first month with no warning.

Edit: No fucking MMO should ever be sold without gametime because it's literally completely fucking useless and I think that's a shitty practice. He eventually got them to refund the $15 sub fee, but he had to chargeback the $9.99 on his credit card.

Man, I even put a trollface in there...

I've owned Bioshock on 360 since release and have owned it on my PC for 2 years, the waiting for 5 dollars thing was a joke.

Though, I suppose with people running around freaking out about 3-7 dollars on V:tM Bloodlines it's hard to tell truth from fiction.

Never said I had it the worst, more proof I guess that Trion is a trashy company. :\

If they are shitty and failing why did you buy it in the first place?

I just don't understand why you would buy the game in the first place if you think it's a shitty company. In addition, did you only plan to play the first month? Just seems like you dug your own grave on this one.

It's gaf, there will always be one guy doing it just to be a jerk.

Wow required CC info in 2005 btw (when I made my account), I remember using a friend's CC to register.

Buying an MMO for $10 (or 15 euro) doesn't seem unreasonable if you just want to try it out for a month. I don't know if they offer any kind of PayPal option, but I can see not wanting to hand out your credit card since you get 30 days for free. I don't see any reason for you to come in here like a white knight defending Trion telling someone to get the sand out of his pussy.

It was 15 euro's figured it was worth a shot even if it turns out average. I decided they are trash after finding out their policies.

Yeah sigh, MMO companies are terrible. At least Blizzard changed their ways and there's always Guild Wars.

You should see the people coming in each day whining about when something is going on sale that just was the day before.

If you want to spend 10$ on it be my guest even for just one month, but at least be a reasonsible buyer and maybe peruse the website in order to avoid "shitty policies." I thought it was pretty common knowledge you need a CC for any MMO. If that's white knighting then so be it, just don't be a dumbass when you purchase stuff.

Yes

Just because someone doesn't read that it doesn't come with subscription time when it was by their own admission visible doesn't make them a trashy company. RIFT is a relatively new game and if they were selling it for $10 it would be understandable that they might not give the $15 value of a subscription away with it as well.

Also, I am pretty sure on the Steam page it gives you big warnings saying that this game requires a credit card to play (correct me if I'm wrong, I am at work, but I know I've seen those warnings on many of the MMO pages on Steam)

I admitted that it was my own mistake that doesn't make the policies any more shitty. As I said I forgot most MMO companies are scammers. The last MMO I played was GW, WoW and various F2P mmo's.

Why can't you read as well? I already admitted my mistake, but doesn't excuse Trion from having a shitty policies. So explain to me again why exactly I can play for free for one month If I give my credit card details. Why the fuck do they want my credit card info? Of course it's obvious that a new game selling for 10 dollar with a $15 dollar subcription makes no sense, but why the fuck would you sell something for $10 that's worthless anyway?

I don't think you know what white knighting is.

My main point wasn't that he didn't mess up by not reading the game didn't come with game time as much as no company should ever sell an MMO without gametime. You are literally buying a product for $10 that you cannot use without spending another $15. Even then, when he tried to login to see if they gave him 7 days trial before the game time started they automatically billed him the $15 just for logging in. No confirmation or anything. I think it's a little shitty. Obviously you guys don't mind stuff like that, but for me it's a bad business practice.

I don't think that Trion is failing or trashy in this respect, Rift is doing quite well. It's a good game that they're not afraid to market quite aggressively.

If you can't seem to read that CC info is required, please don't subject us to your whining when you find out that it is.

There are plenty that don't need CC info.

Age of conan, wow , lotro (p2p obviously), runescape, warhammer...

edit: saw steam picture above: guess the whole argument is irrelevant then.

Also why wouldn't he spend 10 euros to try it for a month?
I know mmos are trash, but if a game isn't worth playing for a month and then moving on,it's it's not worth playing at all. (as in if you can't enjoy it during that time).
Rift is an exceptionally bad mmo though, op should have read up first or tried the trial.

Just checked out of my own curiosity, and yeah, it does state that a credit card is REQUIRED to play. Sorry dude who bought it, but you shot yourself in the foot with that one. Can't blame the company at this point, just the fact that you didn't notice the warning above the actual purchase area. I've fallen victim to this with other MMO's before I knew that it was common practice (I'm looking at you, WAR), so it's not uncommon.
