Is Magicka fun as a single player game? And, perhaps more importantly, is it harder as a single player game? I hate it when developers make a game harder in single player mode, simply because I don't generally play online.

you should. Something went wrong between the sale and the ticket system. The game works perfectly otherwise. The game just finished a 170 mb update on my system btw.

Let's see if the ticket unlocks now.

Now that Hamilton's updated itself, my copy is running fine. Just played through the first few levels without issue.

I think Im going to bite on the Meridian 4 Adventure pack. I really want Scratches and the two still life games (never played the sequel). Seems like a good deal and I doubt it will be a daily deal. How is Syberia 1 and 2?

If you like point-and-click adventure games, you'll love those. It's Benoit Sokal!

Beautiful artwork, great story. Would be the best games if it wasn't for Monkey Island.

General Steam question:

Does anyone else have Steam lock up on them often? As my library grows, it becomes worse. It happens when launching a game, when buying a game, general use, pretty much at any moment. Any solution outside of reinstalling steam? There are no issues with my HDD as far as i'm aware.

Does it lock up and resume? It does that pretty often on my end.

Is anyone else using the Marty McFly and Max promo art as their desktop wallpaper? It's so awesome.
Damn McFly. I booted up BTTF late last night just to check it out. Pretty soon I finished the episode and it was 2 am.

Another Rockstar deal not available in Australia. Great.
If you want it, just ask here. You can easily paypal someone here and they'll gift it to you. I'll do it if you'd like.

I bought the game as a 4pack to play multiplayer, but that piece of shit broken game kept crashing on my friends pc's(those running on XP), internet connection kept desyncing. I tried to use this game as a hook to get them to start PC gaming. Yeah, they went back to consoles and never looked back. It's a terrible multiplayer game(since the mode is broken as fuck). So I'm guessing the fans must be singleplayer gamers. So my advice you to dl the demo first to see how it runs. Before you even consider buying the game. To answer your question though the single player seems doable, since if you understand the system you can do pretty crazy stuff.

So. I want you all to buy overlooked games. Todays issue: SpaceChem.
But lets hear all the impressions on this game I could find from other Gaffers:

And what did the gaming media think of it?

Edit: Oh and there is no negative impression listed, because I couldnt find any.

And the thread:

The game is actually good? I bought it just to get the TF2 items. :)

LOL as someone who primarily played Nintendo systems I keep forgetting about these... "demos", you called them?

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...

It's still fun and yeah, it is a bit harder though.

So... guys. Is Dungeons any good? It looks kinda like the Dungeon Kepper games which I very much enjoyed but my friend said it isn't that good. Any Gaf opinions?

EDIT: Didn't see that it had a demo. Going to try that. Impressions are still welcome though.

i know it's already said enough, but everybody should get Just Cause 2.

It looks awesome, is really huge (REALLY huge), the gameplay is superb, it runs great even on mid tier PCs, over 100 vehicles and much more...just plain fun.

But you should like sandbox games, if you need structure and a good story you maybe should not buy it. But if you have fun to experiment and explore and just having fun messing around...then you will love this!

for me this is this first game since San Andreas where i just had fun playing with the toys that where given to me.

i have lots of JC2 screenshots in my steam profile

just have a look to see how varied the game is.

sorry for the promotion but i just love this game :)

and regarding the question about the DLC. nothing of that stuff is really necessary but ads some interesting weapons and vehicles. i payed full price for the game and the DLC and never regret it.

It doesn't have much in common with DK, gameplay-wise.

Thanks you based Greece for giving me decent upload speeds.

I said I wouldn't get anything today, but I knew I would cave. I haven't tried out the Heroes pack yet. SpaceChem is certainly something. It appeals to my love of chemistry, but holy shit is it hard. Of all the indie games that I have bought and then found pretty lame, this one is one of the best. This is definitely game I will find myself coming back to when I don't have hours to play something.

Yeah, it's always resumed, but it stays locked up for a fairly long time when it happens, usually over a minute.

Oh, and:

Buy it.

How fast is your HDD? Takes a while to load the library if you have a lot of games installed, and it's worse on slower drives.

Just got in.

What have the majority of you been grabbing today? Might buy JC2 for myself. Don't see anything else that is worth it.

LOL at Black Ops Daily Deal.

7200rpm Seagate, it's a decent drive. I only have 86 games installed.

Is it any faster in offline mode? I'm betting it's just taking a while to load from the drive, just want to cover the bases in case there's some reason Steam is verifying files or checking for updates online.

I had a similar experience when the game came out. Still has some crashes here and there but when it works it's a ton of fun. They've fixed a lot of the issues but I believe there are still some issues with the games stability.

A new patch came out today so who knows how that is. I would still recommend the game though because it's a ton of fun and there's nothing else like it. Singleplayer is not that fun though, you have to have people to play with. it's also incredibly hard playing alone.

To be honest, i've used Steam in offline mode for maybe a total of 45 minutes, so I couldn't tell you, and the problem isn't persistent enough even when online to where I could temporarily switch offline and tell right away if it makes a difference.

I'll try out offline mode over the next couple days and report back if I noticed a difference. Thanks for the help!

Add me to the SpaceChem praisers. Got it today and played for 3 hours straight. Great game and it's pretty fun and challenging. Unlike other puzzle games that tend to rank up difficulty on the last few levels.
The story is not obtrusive, much like Metroid Prime in a way that you can ignore it completely, but I found charm in it. It's very satisfying to solve the puzzles! And they do take brain-power. I'm loving it!

The point is, buy it.
