IT'S SO SUGARY SWEET

This is just as fantastic as I hoped it would be! Getting a child voice actor for the child character worked well in Barakamon and it works well here as well. Wonderfully animated, too.

I love shows that are mellow with tones of underlying sadness in them. Kouhei's just barely managing to cope with the death of his wife and he hasn't had the heart to tell Tsumugi yet, while Kotori's situation at home clearly isn't ideal either
it totally wasn't the food making her cry on the hill
. It's still so heartwarming to watch though! I need next week's episode right now please!

Satoru x Saki
ending.
At least the confrontation scene delivered, it was fantastic, both as a resolution and as an execution. And generally it was a very strong last episode, despite the previous shortcomings. Some very good scenes showing the aftermath of the war and the Squealer punishment that was especially brutal. I liked that despite having an antagonist, there's not black and white in this. It's not that the humans or the queerats were bad or good. Also, the fact that the queerats were humans further solidifies it. I actually remembered that Shun wondered about this when they met the Minoshiro, so I'm glad it was disclosed.

I think it had a few weak episodes, but it was a very ambitious series with a unique setting, very good characters and varioust overarching themes throughout it. I definitely liked it and I thought it was pretty great overall. Furthermore, it was surprising that it didn't have any OPs, instead it had two gorgeous EDs. I wish more series would do that. lol

Looks like the D.gray-Man anime will go farther in the manga than I thought it would. Thought it would just end on chapter 205.

I was hoping megumi would get an episode soon, but man has this not gone the direction I wanted it too. She's been coasting along on Soma's success this whole time but this was finally a chance to step up and prove herself after working alongside him as an equal last episode, but instead she gets screwed over by bad luck and now Soma has to defend her honour or something?

Like, I'm super looking forward to this match but it's kind of unavoidable now: Megumi doesn't deserve to be there. It should have been her challenging the dude to the match instead, but I guess Soma has to do it because he's the man?

The show could still pull this off but Megumi better actually do something soon. She's obviously got the skill.

Also if Soma actually wins this then man does Erina get even dumber as an adversary.

I love the manga. Great adaption. Love the OP and ED(ED especially really captures what the shows about). All around i loved it. I loved it.

Little weird thing i noticed and i might just be remembering things wrong or they shuffled things around a little :
Why does Kotori have a band-aid on her finger, as she's too afraid to use a knife at this point?

Taboo Tattoo Episode 1:

Yea, this was uneven experience to say the least as the action sequences were top notch stuff; legitimately some of the best I have seen all year. On the other hand this show is really, really, really bad at handling comedy and I really hope those moments get phased out quickly as this is some Full Metal Alchemist/Hellsing levels of clashing with the seriousness of the scenery.

Yeh I absolute love that about SSY. Often times with these kind of stories it's about the protagonists realizing they're in some dystopian society that's set up by the government merely to control the population and has little actual justification. Here though, circumstances exists and events transpire that make it difficult to really disapprove.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Can anyone tell me what exactly is the berserk anime covering, they basially cover the first few chapters in the beginning but then include material there are like dozens of chapters later

Taboo Tattoo 01

Wow those action sequences were top fucking notch and its nice to have an MC in one of these kinds of story who isn't scared of fighting and knows a thing or three about self defense as well. The comedy was kinda meh in spots, but I can look past that as long at there's enough action.

Damn great action. I really like the dynamic camera work in this show. Main character knows his stuff too, which is always nice.
Comedy was alright although it felt a bit weirdly timed at times, but I can overlook that much.

The comedy in this is really weird, it just feels so out of place and the jokes aren't funny at all. The action though, bah gawd JR. I'm a sucker for good action shows and this episode delivered.

I never had any plans or inclination to re-watch this series because I had so many problems with this show as it was airing. However, a friend wished to watch some "action cartoons" and so this series seemed like the logical choice as it was readily available on Netflix.

I must admit, watching Attack on Titan in the binge/Netflix foramt is certainly a vast improvement over watching it week to week. Almost nothing happens for an entire episode? That's fine because you can start the next episode immediately.

On the other hand, watching the series in the binge format also lets you experience utter collapse of the show's production and pacing on fast-forward. Even though a number of the more glaring errors from the broadcast have been fixed there's still a shocking amount of stills and money-saving techniques on display. More importantly, the real killer is still the pacing.

You can actually feel the beating engine of Attack on Titan splutter and die part-way through the Trost arc. What makes this obvious? Simply examine the following:

- every single line in every single line and take note of when new information is being given to the audience
- every scene with new content / events

vs

Filler anime techniques 101 a.k.a

- every single line when characters are just repeating what you already know
- every single line which is obviously filling up the time by talking about nothing (neither character nor story nor world building nor the above)
- every single flashback
- every time an event is slowed down and time is heavily diluted
- every event we see repeated, but from a different perspective
- every time they use the 'history of Attack on Titan' intro before the OP

I refuse to give this series anymore of my time so I refuse to do the kind of scene-by-scene analysis that would demonstrate exactly how this takes place, but trust me on this. The ratio of new content vs Filler shifts noticeably and profoundly as the series goes on. By the time you've gotten to the Boulder Arc you really feel like you're moving through treacle.

Anyway, I feel like someone with too much time on their hands should work on a cut of this series that just removes all the bloat.

Pretty much this. The only somewhat funny scene was the food stuff, but that aside it was more annoying than anything else. But the action looked really good. What turns me down was the ending, seeing all other Tatoo "wielders" are female. >_>

Alright, screw my worries, they bait and switched it. So yeah, megumi's the best.

None of that creepy SAO chivalry here. This is progressive borderline porn.

D.Gray-Man Hallow episode 1 or 104

D.Gray-Man is back and it's sooooo pretty now. Everything was perfect from the action scenes to the visuals and I love the new VAs. I also really liked how every character looks more mature by now and we can see that 2 years as passed since the beginning.

They recapped just a little to the end of the previous series which was fine by me. I will be looking forward to this every week for the next 12 weeks. Bring me some great DGM!!

Great opening too!

*terribad pacing stuff*

Yeh the pacing overall and particularly during the Trost arc terrible. I'd actually really be quite interested in an edited version that cuts all the fat, though it's probably really difficult to transition the audio properly when cutting all that.

As Turin Turambar (I think) mentioned they'll have substantially more chapters to adapt for this second season. If they take advantage of that and improve the production I'd be quite happy.

I was expecting a really low effort adaptation for Taboo Tattoo, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of everything. The comedic timing is a bit poor, but I'm really liking this.

Taboo Tattoo Ep 1

Great action, kind of meh comedy and with dashes of creepy weird as we have an
adult in a teen body
who is way too flirty with our middle school age protagonist. Still the action is really good with only one or two bendy limb moments so if they can keep a lid on the creepy this should be fun.

Edit:

I was totally taken in by the bait too, I was sure we were going to wind up with a Kirito moment but they let Megumi shine. Totally progressive.....

Maybe try the compilation movie?

Decent opening episode. Was little bit confused of some events as it has been almost 8 years since the end of the original series. Not too fond of voice changes either. At least they gave billion times better short hair style for Lenalee.

Where does it start? I'll read the manga again to catch up, it's been so long...

I met up with Jarmel at AX and we briefly talked about Berserk but I realized something then -

Who the hell is this new Berserk show made for?

Right now it seems like Berserk is attempting to make a re-emergence. It's not an obscure series in the West, but its not on the same level as SAO or Attack on Titan despite having been around for a while. It's not just the Berserk anime, there's a new volume releasing and a Musou game as well.

So you have this anime and you are new to the series. It is an anime that is doing its hardest to speed through everything for the sole purpose of adapting the Millennium Falcon Arc as fast as possible, making it not the best choice for newcomers. Imagine if Hunter x Hunter 2011 decided to cram everything prior to the Chimera Ants Arc into 10 episodes just so they could get there faster. Every element of the 1st episode was trying to push together all the events that make the arc happen regardless of how they happen in the manga. Puck doesn't know Guts when he meets Isidro. Schierke, Farnese and Serpico are introduced briefly so that we already know they are important when they show up later. Guts' situation is relegated to a flashback which might as well say "Watch the movies!"

Then you have the fans who already like the series. After tepid reactions to the movie trilogy, a main complaint being the CGI and the skipping of story beats the decision was made to do that but even worse. What draw is there for Berserk fans other then a self-flagellating take on watching the show just because it has the Berserk name on it?

What is this show? Why was it made? Who thought this was a good idea?

ReLife 1-13

It was pretty cute, but the fact that it goes right up to the source material means none of the sequel hooks are gonna pay off, I imagine.

There is about a 30 chapter space between where the anime ended and the latest chapter. So I'm going to guess they will adapt via OVAs, since they crammed 100 chapters into 13 episodes (though they skipped some stuff throughout).

Where was cuilan though?

Also, didn't HxH 2011 skip over some stuff early on that people derided it for later? The meeting with Kite comes to mind.

The anime restart from chapter 165. They skipped the zombie-joke arc.

Thanks!

Baby Steps 19-25 (S1 END)

Now this is how you do a cliffhanger. Maruo x Nabae match was good, and finally he started something he can call "his own" (the 36,64,100-square control), instead of just being a normal player.

Probably gonna watch at least the first episode of the second season today, but I'll go back fully into it as soon as I finish ReLIFE.

It was worth watching, although I didn't much care for how they changed the way the last episode played out, it was a lot better with everyone secretly observing.

But if they ever get around to the sequel they got plenty of spares to pair: they still have to hook up the Volleyball Girl with Uchiha Sasuke, the PE teacher with the other PE teacher, and the ReLife Support team.

Taboo Tattoo

The wonderbread of anime. The equivalent of those "How to draw anime" books written by some white guy named Kevin you find tucked away at your local library. It's a shame whoever is in charge of the fight choreography is wasting their time on this.

Tell that to 99 percent of school anime.

Gonna watch Taboo Tattoo and I'm gonna trust the people saying that Amaama to Inazuma is good and without any creepy stuff. I could do with a softer show to begin the work week on a good note.
