I don't dislike clones; hell, Lucina is one of the characters I'm most excited for. I rather have a clone than no character at all, as they take almost no development time and make a bunch of people happy. My only problem with Dark Pit (AND Doctor Mario) is that they could have chosen other characters to use as clones before him. He's a very bland addition.

I agree that the expressions add a lot. Mario Kart 8 had a similar thing, and that spawned the Luigi Death Stare malarky... makes me wonder if something similar has a chance of happening in Smash U.

I think the strongest argument to be made for the possibility of DLC isn't that Sakurai has entertained the possibility or that the leak suggested more characters are in the game or that MK8 is getting a pretty robust DLC treatment, but that Lucas isn't in the game at all despite Sakurai showing a willingness to include characters as alts. The most analogous scenario is Alph being included with Olimar, but Bowser Jr also applies here and, if anything, shows how far Sakurai is willing to go with it.

With that in mind, I find it hard to believe that he would completely do away with Lucas rather than put in the menial effort to at least make him a Ness re-skin unless he had plans to reinstate him as his own character later on as DLC.

Both Lucas and Wolf were my mains in Brawl, (I tried to main Falcon, but he just wasn't as good) so maybe I'm being overly optimistic. I'd like to hear a sound argument for why Sakurai would scrap him entirely rather than give him an Alph-like treatment.

I think the better case would be if a Lucas (or Ice Climbers for that matter) trophy does not show up.

We had a 2.5 page discussion on who was the best neighbor in the AC series. Only one guy mentioned anything that went beyond that.

Medusa as an offense-oriented Palutena or Viridi as a lighter/faster Palutena would have been awesome. She has a dozen different moves and only four of them are defaults... Viridi could have Explosive Flame reskinned into a Reset Bomb, port over Super Speed, make Celestial Fireworks cause Flower effect instead, and use either Jump Glide or Rocket Jump with some tweaks. She's got a staff to use, she doesn't have much real in-game baggage to tie her down, and she's completely unlike Palutena physically but is still a fairly believable clone.

I can see why they went with Dark Pit - he's the obvious choice - but I think cloning Palutena would have been far more interesting and could have diversified the roster for cheap.

Someone linked me to her twitter, To be honest, I felt that it wasn't improper for someone with moderator status would actually considering to do "experiment" with audiences by soft-deleting someone's hard works. Yeah, I know what it meant but it's still disrespect to other people's works. Xane worked pretty hard on the graphic works for the OT.

That's mostly what annoyed me, but also I've heard that certain mods/posters aren't happy with how many threads there have been for Smash in the last year plus. Especially when I commented and it seemed like her complaint was most people were posting in this one thread and not the OT, rather than there being seven active threads (all for different things).

Slots are dumb, but reps can admittedly be an easy shorthand when you're just trying to refer to characters from specific franchises. I think when people start talking about how certain franchises have too many or too few reps is when it goes off the rails.

I have to admit, as someone who's almost completely unfamiliar with Pokemon, I find the Brawl model to be much more appealing. Those eyes of Smash 4 Jiggs just creep me the fuck out lol. I don't even know why.

I do wish people would understand that clones are simply an easy way to add extra characters to a fighting game. Taking a clone out doesn't mean a brand new character takes their place. It doesn't even mean a "better" clone will be put in instead.

Dark Pit is an underwhelming choice for sure but he is also hella easy to put in the game too. Not many other characters could claim that (maybe Dark Samus, but then we'd get the "DO WE REALLY NEED 3 SAMUS'" shit). And if you think him being on the roster is some kinda of taint and that he should be gone...just ignore him. There are 48 other characters to play... I am sure you will find ONE to play and if not..then maybe this one just isn't for you.


Again you can be bummed out..haaaaard (Mewtwo ;_; ) but it is nice to have an understanding of how it works

Since a lot of people seem to be upset about the cuts lets see who people would want to be cut. Assuming that 4 characters had to be cut (I'll leave out pokemon trainer since he lives on in Charizard) here are who I'd cut.

1. Snake- Yes he's a iconic video game character and had a very unique move set, but I never really enjoyed him in smash bros. I wasn't a huge fan of his moves and also him being in a nintendo fighter never really fit with me (I'll always associate him with playstation).

2. Wolf- I'll admit that he is not a clone, like some people may claim him to be, but that said he does have a lot of overlap with fox and falco. Despite being fun to play with, I'm happy with just fox and falco.

3. Lucario- He's a decent character I suppose. I was surprised to see him announced as a returner so soon for smash 4. Nothing about his play style really connected with me. Also I would rather have mewtwo than him from a significance to me standpoint.

4. Wario- I just don't like anything about this character .

I do agree that the FLUDD is a terrible, pointless move, and even with Mario being my third-best in Brawl I never, ever used it. But then, why make Doc a separate character solely for the purpose of removing it? Make the Mario Tornado one of Mario's down B alts and call it a day. Less effort and no need for the return of an otherwise pointless clone. It's just strange.

Because Sakurai apparently really fucking loves FLUDD and wants us to love just as much. If they did get rid of FLUDD and gave mario back is old moveset, then no one would defend Doc.

The weird thing about Mewtwo is that I like him a lot as a character, but his moveset in Melee was very disappointing, not to mention too floaty in a game where speed was everything. If Spainkiller is right then I hope he gets a serious revamp.
