I am outside of any age range that an entertainment property (of any type) would give a shit about.
I thought the trailer was great and will probably actually set foot in a theater to see the movie.

Will probably see some knee jerk "reshoots" or other such garbage before it hits next summer, but for now I am looking forward to it.

Also, how can some people not know who Krypto or Guy Gardner are? In what universe did you people read a DC comic in?

What the fuck did I just watch.... Super Dog!??! How many characters/CGI bosses are there in this?? Lex looks cool enough, Nicholas Holt is a great actor but man they could've cut a better much tighter trailer and not go ADHD and show so much

Er…

I guess it was… ok? I don’t know. Maybe I’m just tired of superhero movies in general, but this didn’t have anywhere near the impact for me that it needed to have.

It looked like an MCU movie - which I guess is no surprise, given Gunn’s influence on that series’s visual language.

Both Returns and MoS had much better teaser trailers than this. I just hope Gunn’s movie proves to be better than they were.

I’ll watch it a couple more times. Maybe it’ll grow on me.

Not really.
Yes, really. That is the definition of a rewrite. Especially when you constantly redo origins on screen over and over and over and over.

I said this many times in the past, a mid-50s or 60s greying or grey haired tired of everyone's shit since one can't hold up humanity's boy scout image for that long with the galaxy and geopolitical wars on your shoulders is a far more interesting story, to me, to move Superman forward on screen.

It would also be more relatable to all of us nerds who are in the mid 40s+ age bracket that basically started the 80s, 90s and 2000s comics and IP booms with our consumption of said products.

But these are just my 2 pesos as a consoooooomer. Not as an "appeal to authority," "well accomplished academy award winner," "cinematography major," and any other dishonest fallacy you want to throw around.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Looks good, but tbf the bar wasn't high.
Last decent Superman production was Smallville, Superman & Lois was okay at first but I lost interest by season 2
And yes I do like Henry Cavill as Superman...but his films sucked (not his fault)
This looks promising.

I think I like the Superman stuff. The kids are going to adore Krypto.

But I hate the DCU stuff. That’s what’s so tired and dull in this trailer. The endless MCU rinse and repeat. Remove it all, and I think you have a better teaser.

The only DCU thing in this is that superheroes exist in the same universe as him. Gunn is clear it doesn’t set anything up. The only thing that ties into another movie is Krypto and if Kara has a cameo.

The ‘It Begins’ line made me roll my eyes. And including other superheroes in the same universe is the DCU. That’s the whole point. They wouldn’t be in there, if this wasn’t yet another attempt to kick start a shared cinematic universe. I guarantee you it’ll be that stuff that drags the movie down.

The other heroes are working for Maxwell Lord. They’re basically villains in this.

We all know that’s not going to be how they are perceived by the end.

I would have much preferred a movie that only had Superman characters in it. But that isn’t what Zaslav wants, so here we go again, with DC chasing Marvel. The DCU is born. How very mid noughties.

Can’t wait for yet another fucking Batman.

I hope Gunn manages to juggle the requirements of telling a solid story with the mindless commercial greed of WB.

Gunn has been very clear they’re not doing the Marvel thing. That’s why Creature Commandos was rated R and the first DCU release.

The shows and movies exist in the same universe but they’re not connecting or building to some big event.

Flanagan’s Clayface isn’t going to lead into Brave and the Bold.

And we are getting a new Batman. One raising Damian with the full Bat Family already established. We’ve never had that before.

It looks good, but he just isn't jacked enough.

The worst part of Zack Snyder Superman was Zack Snyder. The best part was Henry himself.

If only Gunn and Cavill could have worked together.

Ive always thought Superman was lame and this trailer didn't change that opinion

Also can we get a gif of the clip where he gets a rock or can thrown at his head? Like who thought that was a good idea to put that in there? :messenger_tears_of_joy: He looks like a complete dufus.

The only thing I liked during Snyder's era was Man of Steel and it also had its big faults. But I love it anyway. It's a very, very big tonal shift Gunn is attempting and I hope it lands, but I can't help feeling that it's a downgrade in some aspects.

The first teaser trailer for MoS had gravitas.

Despite being ten years older I still think that it will have the better fighting scenes of the two.

He's literally doing the Marvel thing. He's constructing a new DC shared cinematic universe, featuring multiple DC comic book characters. Don't fall for the PR spin. This is exactly the same thing again. Whether it builds to a shared event like Avengers is irrelevant. It's a shared universe that requires movies and Tv shows to feature superheroes that will appear in other projects.

And another Batman is endlessly fucking stupid, regardless of what it will or won't contain. Reeves has constructed a critically and commercially successful Batman universe, that will only be negatively affected by Gunn's bone-headed plans to force another version of the character on an audience already tired of superhero overexposure.

WB's biggest problem for decades now has been it's boner for the Marvel dollar. That's why they keep making the same mistakes, instead of doing the one thing they have had success with: standalone movies in standalone universes that tell their own self contained stories.

I don't get it either. Like either commit to creating a universe or don't. Having all of these extra characters is world building no matter how you spin it.

DC doesn’t green light or announce anything until there’s a finished script on Gunn’s desk. That’s the exact opposite of what Marvel does. Marvel will announce a whole slate of movies building to a big event but not even have a screenwriter hired for any of them yet.

For example, Supergirl was never intended to be the second movie released (in 2026) but the script came in and was so good it got greenlit after Superman.

Flanagan’s Clayface is similar. Zero connection to anything else. It’s basically The Fly.

I found James Gunn's homage to late Akira Toriyama!

Perfect Yamcha death pose. - color/cape added for fun.

Joking aside, looking forward to see and how it would be different from any previous Superman series. :)

I just feel like I have super hero fatigue. Why did we need 3 Lois kising in this trailer? feels very Gunn, and I would rather have campy than ridiculous.

I mean... great?

It's called the DCU. Gunn calls it the DCU. He's talked about it being a shared universe. It's the same thing.

And it'll end as badly as their last attempt.

They could - and should - concentrate on one thing at a time. Stand alone. Like Reeves.

Clayface has been confirmed - by Gunn! - to be part of the DCU. It's a shared universe movie.

I'll probably go see this in the theater. I don't really have huge expectations but Gunn is one of the last guys with any taste making mainstream stuff that's left. I could afford an evening out to throw him a bone.

Only movie I'm really genuinely looking forward to is Avatar 3.

He said it was DCU because YouTube bullshitters were claiming it was Elseworlds and tied into Reeves movies.

Yes. So it’s part of a shared cinematic universe just like the MCU.

I think deep down everyone knows it’s a bad idea in 2024, and want to distance it from Marvel’s stuff. It’s the same though.
