Obviously inspired by Twin Peaks, it looks as though Swery is doing everything he can to give people a real sense of what it would be to live in a town as odd as that one. The life simulation aspects of The Good Life sound intricate. Players will have to monitor Naomi’s health and well-being, her finances, her alcohol intake and more. Apparently, you can turn her into a straight-up alcoholic if you so choose. Naomi makes money by taking pictures of residents and filing reports on the town, as well as doing odd jobs for the people who live there. The townies of Rainy Woods operate on their own 24-hour schedule similar to Deadly Premonition that can change depending on the weather and season
The photography mechanic also sounds incredibly detailed with aim and focus factoring big into the picture quality. There’s also camera upkeep to worry about like buying new film, charging batteries and cleaning it. You’ll also have to buy toiletries so you don’t get sick, get a bite to eat once in a while so you don’t starve, strike up conversations with the weird-ass people of this town to solve Elizabeth’s murder, and, oh yeah, turn into a cat at night for some goddamn reason.

New Fig info:

Journey to Rainy Woods... a small town in Northern England surrounded by forests. Nestled in abundant nature, stone houses built in the Middle Ages still stand beside one another. The townspeople look out for each other, love their families, work hard, and enjoy nightly drinks at the local pubs.
giphy.gif

At first glance, it looks like just another normal country town, but the townspeople all say the same thing...

"This is the happiest town in the world."

"We're the happiest people on the planet."

They don't talk about why they are so happy, or how they know that they're the happiest in the world, but they seem to really believe what they say.

BIweRPC.png

Naomi originally came to Rainy Woods in order to uncover the secrets of the happiest town in the world and use her reports to pay off her debt.
But when she discovers the body of the wheelchair-ridden Elizabeth, it sets her journalist heart ablaze. And so, while she continues to pay off her debt, she also decides to find out the truth about Elizabeth's death.
jik2Frv.png

As Naomi pays off her debt, she won't only be left with more money to spend -- the villagers will also treat her differently. Therefore, taking a ton of pictures and working hard to pay off the debt will always be the quickest way to solve the case.

I8Wiplm.png

Rainy Woods has a big secret... At night, all the villagers turn into cats.
w3nBhgT.png

Why do they turn into cats? Not even they know the reason... For when morning comes, they lose all memories of their feline adventures. What in the world could be causing all of this?

Are these cat transformations connected to the reason why Rainy Woods is known as the happiest town in the world?

Questions are only met with more questions...

5mx8Ix1.png

Villagers aren't the only ones who get to turn into cats. Naomi also gets to turn into a cat at night, of course!
WVRKDjA.png

When you (Naomi) become a cat, you'll be able to freely run around town, hunt for mice, bugs, and fish, and find important items connected to story events.

Certain secret paths, rooftops, and attics can only be accessed by cats, so you can explore a whole different Rainy Woods at night.

Do part-time jobs and pay off your debt faster!

Naomi can do part-time jobs in town, such as bartending at a pub, delivering milk, shearing sheep, and other marvelously rural tasks in order to pay off her debt. Find the part-time job you like best and work your butt off!
iKrvEje.png

Some part-time jobs will offer you chances to make a fortune in a single stroke... But they can also be exhausting and dangerous. There's no point in making a killing if it kills you in the end! Take care of yourself and enjoy your daily life!

You can use the money you earn to pay off your debt, or you can also use it on yourself!♪ Try different part-time jobs, and buy yourself some nice clothes!

1-Camera Stance : When the stance button (L Trigger) is held, the player moves into the camera stance. During this period, they can't move. The camera's viewfinder range will appear in front of the player in a cone shape. Subjects within range will be highlighted. We'll add a support function in the beginning of the game. When the stance button is pushed, the player will automatically change stance and look towards nearby subjects.
2-Aim for a subject : The player can change their hip angle (upwards/downwards) with the left stick. The player can mildly adjust the camera angle to the left/right (the viewfinder range) with the right stick. In these cases, the player's hands will shake. The type of lens that's equipped will change the viewfinder's range and where it appears.
3-Bring the subject into focus : Lightly press the shutter (R Trigger or something) to adjust the focus. When the subject is in focus, there will be a beeping sound effect. There will be camera equipment that boosts the focus speed. It can also be customized with extras such as AF.
4-Operate the shutter : Press down on the shutter (R Trigger or something) until it snaps the picture.

Results : You won't know the results until you develop the photos at your house. Developed photos are separated into successes and failures, and only successes are sent out for rewards.
mzS9RJ5.png

You can photograph many different things:

1-One-time-only/rare subjects - Seasonal or special event-related.
2-Subjects that can be shot over and over, and are always the same - Daily life things.
3-Subjects that give better results the more they're photographed - For example, dogs need to be photographed every day for them to give a reaction. Making friends with these subjects will make them show their true faces.
4-Subjects whose states change over time, making players want to shoot them over and over again - Trees and greenery grow and decay.
5-Subjects whose states change due to game progression, making players want to shoot them over and over again - Depending on your relationships with the townspeople, the types of pictures you can take will change.
6-Subjects that need to be photographed every day - Orders from clients. For example, photograph the evening sun from a certain hill every day.
7-Subjects where photographing them every day is beneficial to the player - Photographing this subject every day will gradually improve your reward; if you miss a day, it resets.
There will be photo-OK timings and locations set for subjects, so the player won't be able to do everything in a single day. Players will have to make decisions and choose one subject over another one that appears at the same time.
2DcYqnU.jpg

And that's not all! Unidentified mystery animals (UMA) will also prowl around ruins, some flowers will only bloom once every few years, clouds of cicada wll appear in summer, and the mountains' foliage may all turn crimson in certain years.

You can also customize Naomi when she's a cat!

Of course! This is what you were all waiting for, right?

I like that it has his twitter thing in the trailer: DrinKING!
I'm a bit worried that couldn't even get a decent drawing of the main character for the trailer. That art is awful. I love Swery, and I wish him all the best. I really hope they can make a better looking game. If not, I'll probably still play it for the story.

If you see Swery at Pax, don't spoil Twin Peaks season 3 for him. He can't watch it yet. Considering what he loves about Twin Peaks, I'm worried he won't like the newest season.

oh, Ryan Payton studio is involved too. Wonder if it will have any stealth elements

also, great to hear Futatsugi has a new studio too

Oh man, those Deadly Premonition vibes.

I will definitely try to make this the first crowdfunded game I'll participate in. Swery has my trust.

Not a great start for the campaign. :(

As far as I know, this is the official start right now. Any earlier pledges were from leaked URLs or Fig's own early pledge program.

Speaking of which, the thread title should probably mention the crowdfunding campaign. I really want this to succeed.

where are the stretch goals? cant find them on FIG
want to know if there's a xbox one before pledging

I don't know where to view them either. I only know about the Switch stretch goal because it was mentioned live.

I unfortunately made the thread before anything was announced.

Ughhhh they really didn't change the rewards at all despite asking for feedback?

This is my dream game and I want it to be made so badly but with rewards that bad/expensive it's not going to be backed enough and aahhhhhhhh

Yeah, we warned them. This is going flop hard and it upsets me.

1.5 millions? That's a bit much for an obscure type of game. I'm worried it won't meet that target after the initial surge.

I think Access owns the DP rights? So that was never an option.

They seem to be doing Japanese pricing rather than Western pricing for reasons that are wholly unclear. Evidently they enjoy shooting themselves in the foot.

That's a damned shame. I'm basically LTTP, but I'm enjoying the first one. It's weird as all-fuck.

I like the wackiness of it all and the low poly looks nice. That framerate during the trailer though has me concerned. I'm hoping Swery and his studio also focus up on decent to solid performance on this game.

I really wish Swery would make this information easier to find than the occasional tweet, because I always see misinformation regarding this subject flying around. No offense to anyone who posted it - I know it's hard to find. But let me set the record straight.

Here is the status of the previous IPs based on Swery's tweets.

Deadly Premonition IP is owned by Marvelous.

D4 IP is owned by Access Games.
