Swery's The Good Life, [UP] FIG campaign fails, will be back on Kickstarter

i'm surprised no one mentioned having dinner with SWERY ingame is one of the rewards

how is this not funded yet

Because that costs $629 and doesn't include anything beyond those digital bonuses. I'd love to see those scenes but that's a ridiculous ask for that.

...meanwhile, I'm debating jumping up $200 for the physical stuff. It's still sorta too much money for what you get but I can afford it and I know I'll enjoy the end result enough that I can feel comfortable supporting them more.

$99 dlc dinner date with in game Swery. Hmmm.

Kind of weird it mentions English voice is included and not Japanese but the trailer has Japanese voice acting.

Wait, huh. You can add the stuff individually to your pledge but the $69 tier + all the stuff from the $269 tier is just $235? Am I missing something?

...well, I guess the tier probably includes shipping, so that more or less makes sense, but $34 for shipping's a little much, hah.

...might get that $99 dinner DLC though.

Subbing to this thread so I'll remember to back it later this evening. It doesn't look like it has much momentum though, and it being on FIG can't help either. I don't see it hitting its goal without some extra help from a big name publisher or a surprise endorsement of some Youtube celebrity.

I mean, you don't really lose anything if it doesn't get funded. If everybody ends up thinking "oh, I'll only back if it gets close to/surpasses the goal" it will never get funded.
I just want to see what the uptake is, currently it's not very good. If there's a surge in momentum I will. I don't see a point in getting excited for it yet, which I need to be to back it.

Wasn't impressed by the initial artworks. But the game itself looks really, really cool. I like that Tomorrow Children / Majestia artslye. Totally looking forward to this. They need to work on the choppy animations though.

I was worried about the concept and style, but the trailer convinced me.

It's bizarre in the best way possible and the tone kept changing up at a rapid pace. One moment it's all cute and peaceful then suddenly we learn she's hates it there and has quite the mouth on her.

Also like that right after we see people turn into cats, a murder happens with our main character screaming 'fuck'.

A trailer like that is definitely something I'd expect from the creator of Deadly Premonition, so I'll try it out.

Only issue is the awful performance, and I hope the jobs you do aren't boring.

I'm such a bad fan....

I love swery - he seems like such a funny dude from his instagram
I loved deadly premonition and the unfinished D4

but I've started straying away from crowdfunded games. The digital version "preorder" is $30 for a game that is 2 years away from being finished (if not delayed). there's no physical disc version at least within my price range (I stopped looking after $300+).

I get that you're supposed to vote with your wallet, but if all I'm getting is a digital version in 2 years, I think I can wait until it releases to fork over the money.

glad to see he's back in gaming and I can't wait to play it

The funding goal is fucking high. It's sad buy I highly doubt this will get funded.

I have my fig early pass tier so I still have a bit of hope, but...

I know the feeling. As a physical collector, buying a digital tier feels like a donation, as I will have to buy the physical game again later.

I'm surprised it hasn't been backed to a greater extent to be honest. I thought Deadly Premonition had a much larger fanbase that would be interested in this.

The Good Life has only just now passed the Deadly Premonition board game in funding.

I was interested, but then "Gay cat" and "handsome nurse" put me fully on board. Come on Swery!!!!

If this fails, I don't want to see anybody whining about how publishers don't take creative risks with swery games.

Personally, I'm kinda down on physical lately, and I'm staring at boxes for Torment, Pillars, and Wasteland. I can only imagine the disappointment of people that bought Mighty No. 9 :p

THIS.

Everyone saying this goal is high doesn't understand that any game with 3D, barring some extreme outliers, has a budget of $1M at the least.

Wow, this looks amazing! Even more my brand of weird than swery usually delivers

People need to stop putting their games on fig. I feel like this would be higher by now on KS. Hope it makes it!

Never played any of Swery's games but if this is what they're like... well I guess I have to finally play Deadly Premonition and D4.

Why would that make any actual difference? Purely from backing perspective, Fig works pretty much like KS does, just with the added option to invest.

I suspect it is a question of mindshare. Though there is also the counter argument that the KS cut is larger. For example one could claim that Indivisible being on Indiegogo created visibility issues, but in the end they made it, plus they got a greater percentage of the funds raised than what they may have gotten with KS.

Yeah, this budget is chump change really. Though I don't think people here think that the budget is outrageous, but rather that it seems a little bit out of reach regardless of whether it is appropriate or not for the project.

This is the first time I've ever seen a Fig campaign whereby the ordinary backers have raised more money than the investors. Usually, it's closer to 3:1 in favour of the investors. Not sure that's a positive sign for this campaign.

Tim pissed off a bunch of GG people a few years back. I'm pretty sure in response a lot of those folks really pushed the failure of Broken Age and then the same folks were trying to make Fig out to be some form of huge scam.

Edit: alright, I'll add the customisation info to the OP. I honestly was worried the custization template photo they put up wouldn't sell people. Surprised to see you folks digging it.

Seems like a campaign doomed to fail. Hopefully, SWERY will learn from the kind of obvious mistakes here, and return with a better one.

Not that the odds are looking great but Indivisible's campaign was also going to fail hard. Two threads were full of that discussion before it made it.

What I mean is, don't let your dreams be dreams.

Waiting for the master of KS to deliver a list of the obvious mistakes, but Im guessing he abandoned thread.

I hope this gets backed, but it doesn't look like it's off to a good start...

The trailer being so quirky and featuring such a bad frame rate probably didn't help.

What are the obvious mistakes?

For me? The rewards aren't appealing enough to raise the average person's pledge*. They're largely incredibly expensive digital only stuff for superfans when the game/Swery are so niche and need all the money they can get. Even a simple barebones physical copy of the game at, say, $60 would probably get an extra $30 out of a lot of people who are interested and like having physical copies but aren't Swery fans.

I guess beyond that I think they should really advertise the ability to customize your pledge. The difference between tiers is slightly less daunting when you can mix and match what you want somewhat.

*Just because I'm a sucker doesn't mean everyone is.

So, out of curiosity, I clicked on the "Invest Now" button to see what their pitch is. They've lowered the price of shares to $100 per share, which I believe is a first. On the one hand, I get the feeling that this has absolutely not attracted interest from Fig's regular investors. On the other hand, I totally could throw a hundred bucks on this bet, assuming that their claim that investor break-even is at 90k holds up.

I was wondering the same thing; close to half of the funds raised are from Fig Funders, but it's tough to say if these are regular Fig funders or people who are jumping onboard due to the lowered share price.

It sucks because I would (and I will) totally invest $100-200, but the chances of the campaign hitting its goal are slim
