The exterior looks weird, I want to see it with a plate.
And the interior must be unfinished.

Do we know technical details and/or price?

Starts at $35k. 215 mile range minumum on a full charge. Comes equipped with Supercharging as a standard feature. That's about as much as we got.

There will likely be another event to announce all the specifics mid next year.

Even a regular 335i is still a $50,000+ executive sports sedan! Adjust your expectations my friend.

Given the huge potential for disaster here (see: every other all-electric car to date), the Model 3 looks about as good as one could reasonably expect.

A few aesthetic improvements before release and it could move up to one of the best looking 35K luxury sedans IMO.

I guess we will know about feedback if a bunch of pre-orders get cancelled though.

35k version Still better:

So how comfortable is that 2 series at fitting 5 adults in and out? Why are you keep showing 2 door coupes to compare to a 5 door sedan? You should stay out of car design discussion.

Dude you can't just design an electric car like a typical ICE powered car, it doesn't work like that

So it's impossible to make an electric car look balanced? The Model S looks fine because the nose is balanced with the tail. This is not, it's like the front end is a flattened boxer engine BRZ and the back is a Panamera/Prius hybrid, it's not a good look.

I do agree here and this is my biggest criticism. Lengthen the tail a few feet and I would be much happier.

As of now it only looks aesthetically pleasing from certain angles. Ones that hide the tail and don't emphasize the grill area much. But sideways and from the rear it looks pretty bad IMO.

I don't like bmw design aesthetic at all. Lexus IS look so much better to me in this price range than BMW. I would say Lexus > Tesla = Audi >>>>> BMW.

Tesla pros far outweigh the fact that I think the Lexus IS looks a bit better though.

The design is more in line with what I would expect for a Toyota, Honda or Ford rival. Its nice, but nothing to write home about. It doesn't really stack up the the entry level luxury cars they're trying to compete with.

The interior on the other hand must be a work in progress. It looks terrilble.

115k preorders? Wow.

Tesla thanks all of you for the 115mil interest free loan

It's not as if they don't actually need the money to continue operating at this point. Tesla lost over $1 billion last year, they have been burning enormous amounts of cash on the way to a mass-market electric car.

Hmm, I honestly put the Lexus IS behind all other entry level luxury sedans besides the CLA. But I don't really love the current BMW 3 aesthetic either.

I really don't like the exterior styling of the Lexus at all. It reminds me of something I would see in the original Fast and Furious movie where they took a sedan and added an obnoxious body kit.

Still better, and a 5th seat is pretty useless.

That 3 series has far less interior and cargo room. Model 3's shape is very sophisticated for a 5 door sedan. That 3 series looks dated in comparison. I'm frankly tired of that proportion, only changing the front facia year to year.

3 series proportions look like 20th century. Model 3 proportions look like 21st century.

I really just can't get behind giant touch screens in cars. It's fine for displaying stuff but I freaking hate my touchscreen radio.

Looking at your cellphone is illegal in most states but somehow this is acceptable?

There's where you and I differ; cargo, legroom and the comfort of my passengers are the last things I care about and the bottom of my priorities in a car. I am also willing to bet that in the future (20-30 years from now) that 3 series with have aged better overall than the 1st gen Model 3 design :)

Definitely a winner. The 3 pulls of the grill-less look way better than the X. Very pleased with the front end and overall shape of the car.

This car is so ugly that it's comical. And that interior... jordanlaugh.gif 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

You all got played drinking that Kool Aid. Whatever. I'll hit up the Chevy dealers in my area and see about putting a deposit down on a Bolt EV. The one coming out this year.

What am I reading in this thread? Also that is an old 3 series....

They ever explain the flat nose with the model x, is it some aerodynamics thing?
Could be safety protocol to make it sellable in Europe or something

Lmao this is also too extreme hahaha

You should have used a A3 or XE or CLA pic to compare designs. The BMW example wasn't a good choice haha. People will explain that the purpose of the 2 series, or 1 series you just showed, is different than the 4 door model 3 haha

Without a RWD-tail shaft to get in the way, and if you look at how the Model X arranges its rear seats (namely that it is three seats, not a bench seat), I'm sure the Model 3's centre rear seat will be quite reasonable, especially compared to the beemer above.

But I'm bored of looking at and talking about beemers, there's a general automotive thread in community if you want to bang on about them.

I've never been a fan of silver or grey as a car colour, but damn if that matte 3 isn't alright.

Ugh, I hope aesthetically dis-proportional vehicles are not the future.

I don't love the 3 design either but the S had it right with at least offering enough offsetting visual balance between the front and the rear end to not look awkward at many angles.

I hope Tesla realizes that while the $35k version of the car will be nice and all for the price, the nicely upgraded one which will presumably cost $50-60k will be playing in the most important luxury category for cars today. $50-60k is where BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Acura, Audi, etc. make their real money. That's their bread and butter and the competition is absolutely fierce in that price bracket. The Model 3 we saw today seems nice for a $35k car. It will absolutely get killed in the $50-60k bracket unless that version of the car is way nicer.

Great idea, you'll get the first Bolt rolling off the line. Those Tesla suckers will have to wait in line for years!

Sure. We are a good year away from seeing the final production model before options though.

Well, it will certainly feel like an old car faster. Maybe there is a value in that. :p

BTW, going by your priorities, this clearly is not a car marketed towards you. I don't know why you were interested in the first place.
