Yeah, not too hot on the front. It's more of an aesthetics thing. The front looks like something was suppose to be attached to it, but it fell off. Both the model S and X has SOMETHING in the front even though it's an EV vehicle. As it stands, the model 3 looks like something that wasn't completed.

Let me explain this with MechaGodzillas.

This is the FIRST version of MechaGodzilla 3. Look at its chest. It's smooth and rounded.

This is the second version of the same mech. Again, look at the chest. Ignore all the stuff on its back. The chest has more details. Even though version one was what I got used to, after seeing version 2, it was hard to go back to the first one.

It's hard to go back to the older model of MG3. I think the idea is the same even though its switched. Even if all cars didn't have grills from the beginning, it would be hard to go back once you have something in the front to complete the look.

2017 you say? Hmm... I am very intrigued. Lovely looking car.

I see they are putting a supercharger near my in-laws and there are special charging points in car spaces near my work.

Could work! I await with interest

Wake up Sheeple, your boring insistence that Obama is not a lizardman from Atlantis is wearing on my patience 💤
Cannot unsee this type of mouth/face in the front of the car beloow the hood.

Its the upwards bending ridge/line which does that. Just continue the ridge flowing forwards horizontally from the wheel rim.

A conservative design really.

I think Tesla fell into the same problem other car makers fall into when trying to make a small car into a sedan looking hatchback, the car ends up looking a little pudgy. It worked better on the Model S because it's a bigger car. They would probably have been better off making it into a sedan.

That said, it's not a bad looking car, just not as nice as I was expecting. I'd still buy the shit out of it though if I had the money :p

This is turning into the year of the preorder for me. First the Playstation VR, and now the Tesla 3. I feel like the future I was shown as a kid is becoming a reality.

The reason that the hatchback look is so popular is because it makes for very good aerodynamics. They are all basically variations on the Kammback.

I actually like the look but I understand why others would have a problem with it.

The sewed mouth bothered me a little bit so I mocked up how the car might look with a UK registration plate stuck on the front:

It's not quite as bad now, but it's a shame how reg plates ruin the look of a car.

I feel even if they had some sort of sensor bar (radar cruise control etc) in the front bumper it would help a lot - its just too much of a void in the front. That said it is growing on me a bit and would be less pronounced in darker colours.

That already looks better. Like posters above said, it's not so much the need for a grill but that it looks like they had planned one and then scratched it last minute, leaving the empty place there. Should have designed this area away.

Overall this looks like a stellar package. Compared to all the other fugly EV cars this is one class above (in looks). This should put pressure on other car makers to step up their game if they don't want to be left in the dust. But i understand that at the same time it threatens their core gasoline business.

This is fugly?

I mean, I know I'm a little biased cause I worked for Ford before, but even if it isn't the best looking car, it's far from fugly.

No it isn't. Looks good and also similar to the S. Haven't seen that yet.

You know what i mean. A lot of EV cars have (or better had) this "futuristic" busy design/look.Probably doesn't help that most of them were tiny compact cars. Don't know why they had the urge to have them look different to normal cars.
And i don't like the look the the BMW i3 and i8.

A VW Golf or Audi A4 with the Tesla tech would surely sell well too (priced properly).

Loving it. Would reserve one if there was more that one supercharger in the whole of Spain.

Seriously spain, get your shit together.

I think that they intentionally designed the front to make the lack of the grill noticeable. It lets people know it's an EV at the first glance. It's marketing, not dissimilarly to Apple's shiny logo on MacBooks.

I actually like the look of it.

My biggest issue with the unveiling were the colors, but there's a black version on the website. I might actually be in a position to buy one in 2018. Weirdest thing to adjust to is the interior.

I bet leaving out the grill reduces drag significantly.

Love the design, price and the range, Tesla will conquer the streets with this one if they can manufacture enough to meet the demand. I would probably buy one if I needed a car in 2017.
