Except one key category.
Delivery date.

Model 3: "first deliveries by end of 2017" (nervous laugh from Elon)
Bolt: orders taken late 2016 for 2017 (little reason to expect they won't manage it)

GM has preproduction cars going down the Orion Township assembly line as of last week.

They're going to get it out by this year. The rumored job one date is sometime in October.

Quoting this for a new page.

Tesla lost $1 billion dollars last year, including $320 million last quarter, they only have about $1 billion cash on hand, and it's possible the EV tax credits may expire for them before they deliver a single Model 3. Oh, and they have a history of not meeting deadlines, too.

You sound like you're shorting Tesla stock. Why do you care so much that people are buying Tesla cars?

I am curious about Tesla cars, how much is the monthly utility electric bill for home charging. Also for long trips like driving from Washington D.C to Kansas City what happens when there are no charging stations. Is there an alternative method to charging the vehicle.

I think you can bring a spare battery. I think? I know some of these stations you are just swapping batteries.

I don't think you can just bring a spare battery. I know with the model s at least the battery is the entire floorboard of the car, from wheel to wheel and side to side.

Ah. Then don't take trips that don't have battery stations I guess.

BTW I love the look of the T3!

Telsa charging station are stretched across the US and will double by next year. There are also other companies that provide charging for cars you just have to setup an account with them, like charge point.

I actually prefer the front look of the 3 than the other tesla models.

So, a model 3 35k$ vs a bolt 37.5k$ ?

Seeing the reactions in this thread, neogaf is a weird bunch...

Unwhelmed overall by the electric options in 2016 and beyond. What is the technological roadmap going forward?

Has Tesla ever mentioned anything regarding Android Auto?

That's a pretty important feature for me for my next car.

Welp, time to get ready to trade my car. I got a year to prepare. I'll steadily wait until the first batch is out since 2017 is exactly when I'm looking to buy a new car and that's when I hope these charging stations are definitely near me.

I like the exterior styling, but I'm not so crazy about the interior. I prefer tactile controls to touch screen controls while driving, and the spartan look to that interior is meh IMHO. Still, the performance specs are nice. I won't be a potential customer for years yet though, I have other priorities first and I want to wait until they are out in the wild for a few years before even considering getting one. I do hope they sell very well though.

Same. Electric cars are still impractical, especially for apartment dwellers. I'm sure in the next five years finding a charging station won't be much of an issue, and they will have more affordable options.

Looks nice, especially with the dark window tint. I'm guessing that won't be factory standard though? Each state has specific tint guidelines, NY being amongst the worst.

Love it. I think they pulled the grilleless nose far better than the X here, better integrated into the design language.

Definitely agree, the Model X fascia was essentially just an S with the nosecone removed. This is a whole new design which is significantly better than both IMO. The only sticking point is the complete lack of upper grill, it maybe could've done with a thin opening like the X.

I think the car looks really good. Only thing I'm not liking are the chromed bezels around the windows, that looks really old fashioned.

This depends on location. I live in Buffalo, and was surprised to see a row of tesla charging stations in a bank parking lot. Not a lot of people around town have EVs yet. My guess is Tesla is going to spend a lot of money installing this everywhere.

Skeptics have been predicting Tesla's doom for 10 years. 2012 Tesla was making zero cars. Today there are 100k Tesla's on the road. Feel free to bet against them and keep pumping a clearly inferior car.

And they just made over $130 million in 24 hours.

There's no way this company can survive for much longer at the rate they're losing money. None.

The Bolt EV is inferior... how? It's got the same range, same price more or less, more cargo space, it just comes from GM instead of some company that hipsters like.

I suggest you go read this first.

With all due respect, I've been hearing this for the better part of 4 years now. Do you have more information or projections that show this? Did you see the line ups around the world for the model 3?

Shall we start a chalkboard? Your tag should read - "butthurt. period."

What a great looking car! You should all go get one ASAP.

(btw if anyone is looking to dump their 370z [preferably NISMO] real quick for a rock-bottom price, let me know)

Hang out with Steve.
I love the Bolt. My wife & I will be trading in our Jetta TDI wagon on one later this year. And I've also pre-ordered a Model 3. Not expecting to get it for at least 2 years. They're both going to be great.

You want me to go through each of the specs? Cheaper, faster, more range (The Bolt will be scraping 200 miles because of its higher drag coefficient, hence why GM hasn't released a final range number), arguably better looking, Autopilot, fully supported-quicker fast charging network, more battery production capacity overall (the Bolt will share batteries with the Volt and other manufacturers that use LG, over 30k Botls a year will be a stretch), more cargo space (no front trunk for Bolt), and possibly more room for passengers.

I know all about the Bolt, that's why I knew the 3 would be superior in every way.

It looks like they have a ton of charging stations along major corridors. They have a map of super chargers on their website.

What's funny? Looks like only one station in WV, coal country. Fuckers. A bunch in rural Virginia, so you can hurry up and drive thru bumble fuck. But I'm tripping. It's probably due to the population.

But I can make a route via 66-81-64-70.

And, they keep putting ones up. Tesla the real MVP.

And? You're really concerned that people in this thread are not going to get their cars or something? Will buying cars from them help them survive longer, will it hurt them or will it not matter? Do you want them to go under?

If you want them to fail, why is that?

I want this. Unfortunately my complex doesn't have the infrastructure to charge this easily and I doubt they would put it in for me.

I'll have to wait until I buy a house in the future, or if a supercharger appears near me.

I have a friend who has no place at his apartment to plug in his Model S. When it needs a charge, he drives it to one of several (non Supercharger) charging stations near work, and rides a folding bike from there into work. He usually picks it up in the early afternoon.

I'd be tempted if the range were a bit higher. Is the quoted range factoring in any climate control? I have family 264 miles away, so ideally I'd like to be able to make that run on a charge. Not quite there yet, and no charging stations along the way yet. My brother in law has a Model S and loves it.

Thanks for this. Unfortunately there isn't much spots near where I live even on that map. Hopefully when the time comes for me to get a new car, they'll be more spots around, or I'll have moved into a house at that point

Tesla has been in far worse financial straights than this before and came through just fine. Musk could raise $10 Billion in capital financing if he wished. As long as the 3 doesn't slide into 2018 they'll be just fine financially. They're making the transition from a boutique auto manufacturer to a major production line company for the Model 3. Hitting something close to their time estimate and not having any major manufacturing failures on the way to that goal will be the real determining factors in their fate as a company.

Tesla offers a lot more than just an electric car check box. Their engineering design is above and beyond all prior EV car attempts and has resulted in a product line that destroys the industry standard maintenance paradigm (oil changes, brake replacements, etc. all go away with a Tesla). They push firmware updates to cars in owner's garages that resulted in major upgrades even including superior performance.

Tesla isn't trying to change the car owning experience by simply making an electric car, they're offering an entirely different model of how a car company interacts with it's customers.

They've also successfully delivered all electric cars that everyone who drives one absolutely loves. So until GM does that, shows a similar model that decouples costly routine maintenance from car ownership, and does so in a package that doesn't look like it ran into a brick wall on the way to the show floor they've got a whole lot more catching up to do. One fluff piece told entirely from within GM isn't worth a whole lot.

That is just the range for the base 35k model. If you are willing to pay more, there will be longer ranges. For example the Model S has a 240 mile version and a 288 mile version. My guess is this one will scale from 210 - 275 or so.

What is it with there guys? Yeah they are spending money like crazy right now but that's because they are getting infrastructure in place. There are many ways to raise money so they are not going to run out any time soon. Thank the fed for keeping money cheap!

They have 130K preorders in 24 hours. They are doing very well.
