Really slick that my pre-order made in person auto associated with my My Tesla account. This whole pre-order process has gone quite smoothly.

You know what i mean. A lot of EV cars have (or better had) this "futuristic" busy design/look.Probably doesn't help that most of them were tiny compact cars. Don't know why they had the urge to have them look different to normal cars.
And i don't like the look the the BMW i3 and i8.

The new Prius is definitely guilty of that. I think the i3 looks really goofy, like a dopey bullfrog. The i8 looks sexy to me. Check out the Ford Focus Electric. That also looks like a very normal car. Of course the technology is NOWHERE near any of the cars listed here.

I think the new Chevy Volt is a much better looking car than the Bolt, and is a better comparison to the Model 3:

It's not a pure BEV however, but I find that it's a more practical car overall.

Ok, that is pretty sexy. The front looks futuristic, but also very modest. The overall shape is very much a normal sedan, but with an eye catching front.

This looks really nice but I somehow doubt that all of the expected deliveries will start in the last month(s) of 2017. I think we will start seeing them on the road in high volume tesla locales in mid 2018.

I'll be in the market for a car in the middle of 2019. If this gets exceptional feedback and there's nothing else intriguing on the way I might just bite on this. I'll buy it outright then.

Forget the buzzword "super charging". How many hours does it take to charge? Do I need to install a custom 220V station for faster charging like the Ford EVs?

Ok I pre ordered one, maybe I'll keep it with my Volt :p

(Tesla for city driving, Volt for long distances)

Does this charge with a regular electric wall plug? Also, interior looks ugly, looks like they just stuck an iPad.
I'm pretty sure the interior is not finished and will most likely look better when it's about to be released. As far as I know you can charge a Tesla with a regular electric plug but it's not ideal. It would take a long time for just a small amount of charge.

Yes these are configured for the 240 volt chargers so that probably adds at least $500 to your budget for the charger. Assuming you have a 240 volt socket around your garage. You could use a 110 volt socket but that would take something like 30 hours to completely charge your vehicle. A 240 volt charger will completely chargr the battery in 7-10 hours depending on which battery capacity you go with (30 miles for every hour) and a supercharger station will completely recharge the battery within an hour.

It's not recommended that you constantly use a supercharger as that would wear out the battery pack more quickly.

A normal 110V home plug charges EVs EXTREMELY slow.

Yup. Ford Fusion Energy takes 7 hours to charge for a full 19 miles of EV. Well, the Fusion is actually a plugin hybrid. It has a hybrid engine and an EV engine.

Fuck. Never mind.

Charging stations that offer quick charging of the battery.

"Tesla Superchargers provide 170 miles of range in as little as 30 minutes."

Ah I see on their site. Bad news is there aren't many around Iowa. The trip I take to the lakes in Missouri is about 5.5 hours. There's a supercharger in Kansas City but that's 240 miles from home, 25 miles past the range of the S.

Would probably need another car for that trip.

Pre-ordered last night. I can see the pre-authorization charge on my bank statement, but still no confirmation email. Should I be worried something screwed up?

Haven't been keeping up, but $35k is the before incentive price? Nice. I live nowhere near a supercharger though so I'm not sure I can make the leap yet unfortunately. Combine that with having to get a charger installed in my house - and that will likely entail replacing the ancient breaker box (which admittedly I should probably do anyway to be honest), and hybrids seem to remain the best compromise for me at this point I think.

There's one in Council Bluffs, in a mall. For some reason. If I got a Tesla here in Omaha, it'd be the only place to charge the car.

It's not advertised or publicized at all. It's just.. there.

Tesla intends to double the amount of Superchargers by the end of 2017. At the same time, they plan to quadruple the amount of destination chargers, which are slightly slower chargers located at places like restaurants and hotels.

Even if Tesla unceremoniously goes bankrupt like some here seem to wish, they have done so much to help advance the tech.

PS they aren't going anywhere.

I wonder if it would be afford to put a 240 charger in my garage given the breakerbox is right there. Wouldnt take much wiring.

Considering I paid 32k for my FR-S, with a 6 second 0-60 time (which cost me 3k to get below 5 seconds), that range and performance is a steal for that price.

Even more so with 7-8k in incentives.

The fact that it seats 5 comfortably and has a RWD option makes it mighty tempting to sell my FR-S when this releases. If it has decent trunk space, it's a nice step up to a more practical vehicle.

I wouldn't be getting one until early 2018 probably anyways, so that may be good news.

My only other issue is I live in an apartment. My garage has a standard wall plug. Though my daily drive is only about 70 miles total, so maybe that would be fine for overnight charging.

Joe Six-Pack: posting for the common man
This car is so ugly that it's comical. And that interior... jordanlaugh.gif 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

You all got played drinking that Kool Aid. Whatever. I'll hit up the Chevy dealers in my area and see about putting a deposit down on a Bolt EV. The one coming out this year.

Quoting this for a new page.

Tesla lost $1 billion dollars last year, including $320 million last quarter, they only have about $1 billion cash on hand, and it's possible the EV tax credits may expire for them before they deliver a single Model 3. Oh, and they have a history of not meeting deadlines, too.
why are you trolling this thread so hard? Seriously.

I hope Tesla realizes that while the $35k version of the car will be nice and all for the price, the nicely upgraded one which will presumably cost $50-60k will be playing in the most important luxury category for cars today. $50-60k is where BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Acura, Audi, etc. make their real money. That's their bread and butter and the competition is absolutely fierce in that price bracket. The Model 3 we saw today seems nice for a $35k car. It will absolutely get killed in the $50-60k bracket unless that version of the car is way nicer.
given that they beat all other cars in the same class as the S, i dont think they'll have much problem, especially if you spec out a 3 to be 50 or 60k that car is going to be real nice.

I actually prefer the front look of the 3 than the other tesla models.

So, a model 3 35k$ vs a bolt 37.5k$ ?

Seeing the reactions in this thread, neogaf is a weird bunch...

Wait the chevy bolt costs MORE than the Tesla? holy shit. Looks like a turd on wheels.

There's no way this company can survive for much longer at the rate they're losing money. None.

The Bolt EV is inferior... how? It's got the same range, same price more or less, more cargo space, it just comes from GM instead of some company that hipsters like.

I suggest you go read this first.

because it looks like a piece of shit.
Again why are you trolling this thread so hard? Why do you care so much about Tesla failing?

I hope they add a speedometer behind the steering wheel. That's a deal breaker for me.

I drove my sister-in-law's Saturn years ago and it had a similar setup. It was the worst most annoying thing I had ever seen in the car.

I really like it. Only in black or red though. Far better looking than any long range smaller EV car will look for the foreseeable feature, and it's faster than I thought too. I'd buy this in a heartbeat instead of my Mazda 3GT, if I had to decide between the two today. It actually reminds me of Mazda 3 with a front lights inspired by Porsche.

I hope they add a speedometer behind the steering wheel. That's a deal breaker for me.
They'll probably have speed etc. projected into a windshield. I have that in my car, and it's great. Barely ever have to look at the normal gauges.

Are there any detailed spec on the interior size? I'm 6'9 and don't want to put a deposit down on a car I won't fit in lol. I'm hoping its somewhere between a 3 and a 5 class.

My Spark EV takes all night on 110 and about 5 hours on 220. DC fast charge is about 30 min.

Do you transform the 220 do DC or the 120?

Does anyone know how long you will be able to reserve? Few days or until it's released?

I want to reserve with my next paycheck, which is 2 weeks from now :}

I'm glad that GM and Tesla will duke it out for the affordable electric. I'm interested on neither of them for purchase, but will certainly watch. I do have a preliminary observation to make. Availability is the best feature for a higher volume vehicle, Tesla may be better in an objective way, but GM can be good enough and more readily available which, as long as it fulfills early adopter expectations, could give them the latitude to have a very successful product in the long term.

We also need to wait for the other contenders to enter the fray as well, but I'm happy that this is the way forward at the moment.

Full charge on the 24kwh fiat takes nearly 24 hrs on empty on 110v. A 60kwh tesla charging on 110v at 1.2kwh would take 50 hours for a full charge.
