No. Do it.

Yes, but only if you get it pretty quickly or legislators extend the credit. I would order ASAP if you want the tax break.

In regards to the tax breaks, until we take delivery of the vehicle we can't claim them which is unfortunate because I know there are talks of lowering or dropping the breaks in many states.

Would be willing to bet that regular car manufacturers and even dealers would lobby the heck to not extend...

Didn't work for solar tax credits which got extended. It would be fantastic if they extended EV Taz credits.

Honestly if they fix the front end I'll probably pick up the black version..the silver rims are fugly but in black it's pretty slick

Its insane how car manufacturers have treated full ev as a hobbyist-only endeavor weirdos drive in equally weirdo looking cars. They have never said hey, maybe people want GOOD looking cars instead of hideous abominations that is your average looking ev out there.

Seriously, every other ev vehicle makes me barf. I wouldnt want to seen 10 ft near any of them.

Do you think it's a coincidence they made their EVs ugly? I'm sure some higher interests have made it lucrative for auto manufacturers to stonewall EV as long as possible. It makes total sense a new company such as Tesla isn't beholden to big oil.

Elon responding to a question about the lack of instrument cluster on dashboard:

https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/716713294128500737

"It will make sense after part 2 of the Model 3 unveil"

WHAT DO YOU HAVE PLANNED ELON
ELOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNN

Inb4 part 2 "the car is fully autonomous driving, you get in your car, program your destination, and look at your Kindle/iPad/3DS/Vita until you reach your destination"

Naw, probably projected onto the windshield would be my guess.

I think we're all wondering exactly how much Google integration we'll get in Teslas down the road, pun maybe intended?

With integrated Google Calendar and Maps support at a minimum, this would be easy to accomplish. Plus the Autopilot, auto-parking, automatic garage exit/entry, and Summon features would make it truly automatic. Your phone tells you that you leave in 10 minutes, you get in the car, it starts itself and backs out of your garage and opens and closes the garage door, drives itself to your destination, finds an open spot, and parks itself. You leave and go do whatever. When you're done, you come out and stand by the entrance and push the Summon button on the phone app, the car backs out of it's parking spot, drives itself to the entrance to pick you up, and then drives you home.

Would be so amazing.

Its pretty close actually. Tesla already has the automatic garage door open, drive out and garage close thing done.

And even the reverse steps.

Mercedes is working on it too. Both are competing pretty vigorously.

Toyota Prius set the fugly trend, but I agree Tesla is upping the ante like none other thankfully

Yup.

The flat part behind a wheel is a big screen and window is in proper angle, so it reflects it for driver?
Software based alignment and calibration, perhaps a small camera to track drivers head?
Would allow things like heat/night vision overlay.

I still want to be able to drive, as I enjoy driving. This past weekend I drove to and from Ottawa for a conference, which as 600 km one way. At some point during the journey I would've love to say "take over", enable auto distance and let me take a break from the stop/go.

I don't think model 3 will let us be fully autonomous because the law will still hold us responsible. So those who want to play video games while they commute I think are SOL. Down the road maybe because it will contain all the right parts but l galley I don't think we'll be able to.

Has it been confirmed that the model 3 will have free supercharger access? Those things are going to get mighty clogged if there's suddenly hundreds of thousands of teslas driving around with 50% less range than an S

Yes in the presentation. They have not confirmed if it will be free for Model 3 owners, but they have confirmed that they will have access. Also they confirmed that they are doubling the # of Super Chargers and tripling the number of destination chargers.

If they start pumping out 3's at 500k a year any time soon, they'll have to double that doubling and triple that tripling to keep up. They have made around 120k model s's total so far and at least two dozen model x's. 3 is going to dwarf the others in no time.

My bet is you'll have to pay for supercharger access.

I agree. Plus they may be able to disable super charger access within X miles of your home so that people don't use them for everyday charging.

my wedding photographer tweeted Elon saying that the car looks great except from certain angles and that maybe the front needs more work and Elon tweeted him back "Edge and contour refinement are ongoing. Even .1mm matters."

on a completely ancedotal note i keep seeing middle aged women in Tesla Model S. Saw one on the freeway with a kind that was about 10. Saw another while riding my bike one day and just this weekend i saw a middle aged asian lady.
I wonder if its the green aspect of the car that appeals to women.

So what are the odds of the $7500 tax credit being renewed? Aside from what party takes the presidency of course.

well we had the solar tax credits renewed under our amazingly gridlocked congress, so I'm sure the left will want to renew it and give the right some type of concession (Dems wanted solar tax credits renewed so they agreed to remove the ban in exporting oil to please the right)

Safety rating too probably.

Don't the Superchargers use "free" energy in that they are fully powered by their solar panels? I thought that was how they worked and why they were free. Obviously there would need to be some upkeep, but the costs of that are probably minimal.

Elon Musk said:
the supercharger stations will actually generate more electricity than the cars use in recharging.

[...] It'll have enough solar panels to generate electricity back to the grid on an annual basis. That's how we're sizing them, so they'll be slightly energy positive. Then we're also making it free.

They will able eventually be solar powered, but I think only a select few are right now.

If mind you they start charging for supercharger access would it possible that they limit charging pay only to the Model 3 drivers via software?

Oh hey, found the ☰ for future use.

Hang out with Steve.
Autopilot is priceless to me, I hate driving on public roads

Autopilot is not quite what you seem to be thinking it is. It's pretty much automated cruise control with lane keeping. It won't follow a gps path & make turns onto other roads & such -- it just follows the road you're on and won't crash into cars in front of you.

Let's see what Elon can do. :)

Tesla delivered 15k cars last quarter.

Hope anyone who preordered after the first hour has a car that can last until 2020
