In gearing up to make "The Adventures of Tintin," I suspect Steven Spielberg reached down into that place inside that fueled his "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Here again is an intrepid hero involved in a nonstop series of exploits involving exotic locations, grandiose villains, planes, trains, automobiles, motorcycles, helicopters and ships at sea. It evokes Saturday afternoon serials in an age when most of the audience will never have seen one.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed myself. Spielberg not only uses 3-D but bases his story on one of Europe's most beloved comic characters. The 3-D he pulls off, just as Scorsese did in "Hugo," because he employs it as an enhancement to 2-D instead of an attention-grabbing gimmick.

sadly boxofficetheory is predicting this won't even reach 90 million $ domestically TOTAL with final world wide total just under $400 million. the only country where this is doing really well is france and India. Sad and If it does bad business we might not see a sequel. we only had 15 people in the theatre last night for our show at 7 pm among 150 seats. the manager said MI:4 and Sherlock/GWTT was attracting a lot more people.

will totally Facebook friend you! *giggle* *LOL*
gonna hope that the WW numbers and the fact that a lot of the assets are just gonna be reused and not created fresh in the next one will help get that sequel made.

Saw it today. There were about maybe 20 people, but it was for the 11:00 matinee. I liked it a lot. The chase sequence after the bird was great. There were moments where it had a Indiana Jones vibe to it, as my 7 year old son loves "Dr. Jones", and really loved that part as well.

I saw this today. I enjoyed it a lot. It was pretty fantastic – and I use that word not to describe its quality, but the events and the feats the characters were able to pull off.

Why didn't
Captain Herrick simply tell his grandson where the treasure was
? I wasn't able to follow the story completely, but mostly.

You mean Haddock? Haddock explains
That his grandfather told him everything as his dying breath, but that Haddock was so distraught when his grandfather died that he immediately got hammered and forgot everything the old man said.

Saw this last night. It's a bit slow moving in the first act, but once things get rolling it never lets up with the thrills.

Nothing extraordinary, just a fun little Indy-lite romp. Oh and the animation looks absolutely ridiculous. There are some scenes where I thought I was watching live action actors in creepy Crazy Town-esque prosthetics/makeup. It's an interesting experiment, but I'm not sure I want to see much more of this full-on performance capture stuff.

I meant where the location to the treasure was.

I don't think the American market was ever the focus of this production. Obviously they are/were hoping for success, but the likelihood of a sequel will be determined by the other markets. (At least I keep telling myself that when I hear the doom and gloom)

Anyway, I am of course hoping for a sequel. If only to see what Peter Jackson can do with the material. Honestly, I doubt he is as good as Spielberg, but I`d happily be proven wrong.

If MI4 attracts more people than Tintin, I do not want to live on this planet anymore.

Can someone tell me how badly this sinks into the uncanny valley?

I'm a huge TinTin fan, but the aesthetic in the trailers seriously worries me. The realistic eyes and pores on characters with exaggerated features is bugging the absolute hell out of me, which is the same thing that kept me from enjoying much of Tangled. How bad is it, or does it end up looking alright?

Not that bad. Pretty much everyone in the film (except Tintin) looks like a cartoon transitioned into 3D as far as features go. Tintin (who I think looked a bit out of place because they tried to make him look more realistic) still never went as far into the uncanny valley as say the Zemeckis motion capture films.

Wait, you actually thought Tintin had a chance head to head against MI4?

I should add some snarky comment here about the US having shitty taste, but eh.

Why? MI4 was fucking awesome, one of the best action movies I've seen in the past decade or so.

I lost interest in the series at MI2, and never even bothered with MI3. More people should watch Tintin instead of dumb action movies :(

I wish it did. I just want Abrams' career (producing or otherwise) to die already! Still gotta see it though. I hear the action scenes are great but Tin Tin's scenes will be hard to top. Straight exhilaration and I wanna get drunk with haddock right now.

man i hate the look of this movie.. it's so sterile. reminds me of polar express

Are you basing this on the trailer or have you seen the movie?

I haven't seen the trailer but I've seen the movie and this movie is about as opposite from polar express as an animated movie could be. Is not sterile at all.

This movie looked better than Avatar holy fuck.
It reminded me a lot of Uncharted 3 which is a good thing.
The one shot was the best thing I've seen this year (even better than Burj scene in MI4)

I really hope they make the sequels. Spielberg killed it this year (and I didn't even love Warhorse but holy fuck this man is a master of the craft)

That's why I'm really happy to see him work with Jackson who's an artist and a man of passion rather than Lucas who's just.....I don't know what he is.

Paging Sculli.
Its Spielberg, its okay.

is there any doubt that MI4 is going to demolish Tintin in Box Office worldwide, not just the USA? Tom Cruise is still a big draw.
I have no interest in seeing this due to the advertisement. Someone said it already, but it really looks crappy(Creepy could be a better word) like the Polar Express. Probably looks great on the big screen, but didn't when I saw it on a TV.
2nd, it didn't really look interesting to begin with. Positive impressions here sway me a bit, so I may see it at the cheaper theater now. But Dragon Tattoo and MI4 just had better advertisement.

Glad you enjoyed it. T-minus 2 days till I rewatch this baby. Easily the movie of the year and people comparing it to Polar Express have absolutely no clue, which is a big shame.

Go see this movie.

Saw it tonight. I had a great time!

I laughed a lot, and got caught up in the fun and excitement of the adventure. It was certainly a fun movie.

The visuals were superb as well.

Unfortunately, there were only like 30-40 people in the entire theatre, but that's ok. It was fun to see a cartoon (books and television show) come to life. I grew up watching Tintin on Sunday mornings.

Great movie, I had no idea Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Andy Serkis were in it, their voices all worked very well

Such awesome animation, can't wait for video games to get to that level :p
