The E3 '08 Sony Prediction and Discussion Thread

They better announce it :D or I'll be a very sad Panda.

Between the games coming out soon (resistance, littlebigplanet, killzone), and the games coming out later (infamous, god of war, heavy rain) I doubt we'll see it. Besides, wouldn't you rather see Naughty Dog cleanse their pallet with an original PSN title before swinging back into Uncharted?

My crystal ball says Leipzig for Uncharted2. Based on nothing.

Besides the expected PS3 stuff, I want to see some indication that PSP is still a vital platform. There's enough processing power in the PSP to continue through 2010. Increased integration with Playstation Network and some quality software is really all it would take to bring a lot of excitement back to the system (and maybe some decent software marketing).

I'm not even a big fan of this series and I'm pissed about this. I probably wouldn't tweak my car in the living room, but if I could do it on the train and sync it back to the PS3... money.

I know that Sony will deliver on some cool/surprising/interesting announcements since their track record has really become excellent in that regard since GDC 07.

However, I don't expect anything to be announced that is surprising and/or interesting that will be coming out before the end of the year.

You mentioned before that "from what you could gather..." so is this just you guessing or do you have some decent sources?

edit: oh great he was just banned lol *waits for E3*
WTF? Why is he banned?

And DC online has been being worked on forever. They already are starting to show it off to the media and about half of my comics I picked up this week had a one page teaser for it.

I have a feeling this game will be shown and they will showcase Gotham City to keep the hype rolling since Batman Dark Knight will be debuting in theaters and all the Oscar buzz going around, makes sense to put it in the spotlight.

I bet for:
Uncharted 2 teaser
ZOE3 teaser (or just announcement)
Tekken 6 PS3 version trailer
VF5R PS3 version announcement
MGS4 Substance announcement
New PS3 models

I hope for
price drop announcement

This is some of the stuff I have heard recently:

God of War III realtime teaser.

Solid State Drive PS3s.

Plans on PS3 Slim for release as early as Killzone 2 release.

Don't expect much on Final Fantasy XIII but there will be a blowout at TGS, realtime demonstration, and I've been told you better free a LOT of space off your HDD for the install. I've been told a number but I'm afraid to mention it and I want to get a confirmation first because I'm having a hard time believing it myself.

I'll post more rumors as I get them.

My prediction is that movie downloads will become active at or around the 15th of this month.

Also, I predict that Sony went with DivX certification (including some of its more unused features *hint*) for one main reason.

downloadable movies will offer subs

I really doubt Sont will be putting out SSD PS3s, it is basically far less space for far more cost, there would be almost no benefit for the consumer.

This will be fun :lol :lol

Solid state PS3 is an absurd idea. If they want to match the smallest PS3's hard drive size with flash memory....the price would be astronomical.

SSD in the PS3 aren't any good in the PS3 as of now:

Slower and much more expensive. I'm sure they'll improve in the future though.

I'm not expecting anything on Uncharted 2. Drake's Fortune was only released last November, no way ND has anything that they can show this early. I guess Nov 09 for Uncharted 2.

I know, that's what I said also but I know for a fact Sony have been researching this possibility. I'm just divulging what I have been told. :P

I really hope there isn't anything related to Uncharted. Hopefully ND is making a new Jak game that is like the 1st.

Posted all over the internets in 5... 4... 3...

Serious, is the force install a Jpn dev kind of thing? How many western games use a force install thus far on PS3?

When I heard talk of a fighting game needing an install with Soul Calibur 4, I think...what?

This has to be bullshit right? Isn't the limit around 5. something? Hell if MGS4 couldn't get away with the bigger than 5 gig install for the initial one I doubt FF13 is going to do it.

This is not true for all Japanese developers. Sega gives you the option with Valkyria Chronicles.

I love it when people who think they are "in the know" post the most absurd rumours on here. :lol

Only thing "absurd" about these latest rumors is the SSD possibility. A PS3 Slim in Japan timed with the release of FFXIII is really all Sony can do at this point to resuscitate the platform.

Well of course, it's not completely universal, but there it leaves a startling look of a possible correlation of even top Jpn devs embracing such install practices more than I feel comfortable with when so many top western devs tend not to opt for such a thing and do fine.

There is much truth in this statement.

Unrelated kind of but Square's solo press event is on Monday at 12:30 PM PST.

All Square Jrpg are going to be 360 exclusive! Except for FF13 that will be multi platform! :D

I am kidding dammit.

07/07/07 E3 prediction thread.

Sony

10 - PSP - Redesign revealed for a September '07 release.
10 - PSP - Official cable for connection with TV is revealed.
10 - PS3 - Pricedrop + 40GB SKU plans revealed, for release in October.
10 - PS3 - Rumble controller is revealed.
10 - PSP - Online Store to begin operation to coincide with new PSP release.

Well, those were my 'predictions' for E3 '07. Take that as you will.

But I have to say I am very skeptical about the rumors I've heard myself also so take everything with a pinch of salt as always. ;)

The intricate enemies and crazy scope of GOW 2 incorporated next-gen-ness really well in a PS2 game. Want to see GOWIII PS3 there.

So December 2008 in Japan? ;)

Aren't Solid State drives SLOWER than traditional ones at writing? Why would Sony do that with all the installations going on these days?

http://uk.gamespot.com/features/6192258/index.html

Conclusion

At a cost of $400, it's hard to justify purchasing a solid state drive, especially when you consider that the money could buy you a whole new console. The argument becomes even more difficult to push when the benefits of said drive aren't universal. Load times improved, but installation times increased tremendously. More expensive SSDs have faster write speeds, but at almost four times the cost. There certainly are benefits to upgrading to a solid state drive, but we wouldn't recommend doing so until the prices and speed are more in line with performance expectations. Fortunately, solid state drive prices seem to halve every year, and performance is improving. We shouldn't have to wait much longer for SSDs with larger capacities, better performance, and lower prices.

Maybe it's some magic SSD with faster writing rate?

Edit: I was so beaten
