The E3 '08 Sony Prediction and Discussion Thread

Honestly think about it if:

GTA4 the biggest game possible outside of Halo in the US didn't push either Xbox units or Sonys units
ahead of each other Final Fantasy sure as hell aint doing it.

If anyone's looking for the perfect way to unwind after the first batch of E3 madness may I recommend having a marathon of Zero Punctuation reviews on The Escapist.

I'm currently making my way through the last three or four months worth of reviews I've missed.

Very relaxing.

Agreed. Sony is not done by a long shot.

But third party developers will definitively think thrice about making a PS3 exclusive game (if even long time Sony supporter SE jumped strategies) X360 exclusives on the other hand...

We will see how this plays out.

Sorry if you think mine are all educated guesses but I think I have proven that they are not, but I know what you mean.

I should have came outright and said it, its just that sometimes the clues aren't the most clear - "oh yea, they want it all across the board" - and I know what happens to people like me here who make claims and for some reason miss, so I'm always very weary of what I say.

He did say specifically FFXIII on DS though.
 
Oh come on, while the people who buy FF-13 for 360 are packing their RRoD'd 360s into an endless line of cardboard coffins we'll be playing the game on a system that doesn't sound like a jet turbine.

People claiming the end of Sony have Hyperbole for their middle name.

My glass is still half full... and I have a 360 just in case. :D :lol :D :lol

A few decent announcements are fine for me. The FFXIII doesn't bother me at all. I'd like to see them announce they will do more to get PSOne games on the store's.
 
You are all forgetting FF13 will not be released for the 360 in Japan, and Sony will sell a shitload of consoles over there.

I think they just need to reveal things they've already announced like Heavy Rain, R* exclusive, and ThreeCO. Show us what we'll be playing between now and whenever the fuck FFXIII comes out. Also some unexpected stuff in R2, KZ2, LBP(enemies plz), Motorstorm: PR, and Infamous.

Pretty much nothing - other consoles don't have the same exposure to this PS3 did, by virtue of not really having such massive third party exclusives.

A new PS3mote would be..surprising..but would not carry the same shock value as something like FFXIII multiplatform.

Content is material, and that's what they can and should compete on. They'd have a very hard time competing on surprise/shock value.

I think each one has their own interpretation of being a true fan. It's a matter of opinions subject to debate.

You can't just discredit others for having different opinions about how SE should operate on the FF7 franchise. Some ppl woul like to expand the universe as much as possible, while others like the way it is.

They are all legitimate notions so there's not a single definition for being a true FF7 fan.

It will have an impact in Japan........ as sence with the PSP/DS FF games where they go goo goo over the shit, rest of the world...... not so much.
 
I don't really get all the doomsaying, but then I'm not into Final Fantasy.

There's a bunch of things I really want that can make Sony 'win' this E3 for me:

God of War 3
Uncharted 2
Team ICO game
InFamous looking as fun to play as Crackdown
Full software BC with PS2, preferably with downloadable PS2 games
New IPs...
 
I just want to see Team Ico's game....More than any other game announcement that's what I am really hoping to see.

Lol get over yourself, my change in opinion of Sony doesn't make DIVX/XVID support for the PSP any less important. Fact of the matter is that things have been very slow news wise for the PSP and they're not going to leave it out of E3 so this one's definitely a possibility. The rumors have been out there since DIVX/XVID support for the PS3 was added but Sony's never officially made a statement on it, this could be it.

Holy shit, I mean.... Microsoft could have just said "FFXIII on 360" and it would have put MORE than enough pressure on Sony - but with their dashboard changes with their avatars and 'parties' and what not, looks like they're trying to beat a lot of homes cool features to the punch (jump in anytime games for example).

I think... I mean this is my opinion, Sony needs to counterattack with some new IP's. It's all well and good seeing Fallout 3, Gears 2, Fable 2, Bioshock 5 etc etc. Those are nice franchises, but with any sequel, things get a bit stagnant.

What I would love to see (because there aren't nearly enough of them on the PS3 right now):

1. 1 or 2 New RPG's (or at least more info on WKS and Valkyira)
2. More action adventure
3. Competitve movie and tv show on demand features on PSN
4. Some new cool PSP -> Ps3 functionality
5. Release dates that make me warm in my pants.
 
I wonder if Sony is doing some heavy-duty last-minute changes/damage controlling now before the show. I personally fucking hope they do, if they didn't have anything worthwhile planned.

Sony's Conference: Talks about how they're the best and neglects the fact that they're in last place. Talks about stupid PS3 features no one cares about. Showcases Home and says it'll be available before Christmas. Shows off a few first-party titles, 3rd party, and notes their new "innovations" in each endeavor they have. Then either talks about the lack of games on the PSP, OR announces the PSP2. (Probably the PSP2). Gives a few details about it, lies a little, and shows some really awesome trailer where a guy with a perfect haircut is having the time of his life with his new touch-screen portable. Then, right before it's over, a trailer for God Of War 3 pops up, and Kaz blows a giant load of clue-goo on the audience.
 
I've always maintained that by the time this generation is finished you;ll be able to count the genuine third party exclusives for either the PS3 or the 360 on your fingers.

And that still looks like it's going to be the case, just FF XIII won't be among them.

Does anyone else have a sneaking suspicion that Sony's big end of game revelation is going to be GOW3? Considering that there is already a vague description of it going around that would be a bit of a damp squib to finish on.

But, as ever, we shall see.

I want them alllllllllll. And a five year exclusivity window for XIII on PS3.... then maybe I'll give them a second chance. Anything less and Sony is dead to me.

A simple CGI trailer of GOW3 isn't going to turn tables at this point. They fucking need a full blowout of all their shit.

It will be MASSIVE in Japan and will sell a F@#$ ton of PS3's which is really where Sony wants it anyway.
It sucks for them for the US but its really not that big a deal.

the sole reason I bought a ps3 was this. Me being angry is an understatement. Sony's e3 conference is a flop as far as I'm concerned unless a few AAA rpgs will be announced.

people screaming "Its over for Sony" sounds so ridiculous as if FF13 is THE game for Sony in America or europe. Its an important franchise and Sony will suffer a little, but nothing Apocalyptic here
