Enchanting and smithing are crazy over powered.

I haven't found enough materials to make anything or enchant outside of the brief tutorial at the Riverwood chaps house. I had the same Enchanted Axe with 38 damage for almost the entire game up until about 2 hours ago in game. I switched it for the Orcish war hammer with the same damage. That and I've been playing 2 handed with some healing and lesser distruction.

I just went to Markath to try and find a house and found a lass who trained me 5 levels. I'm only 30 hours in and just got to Solitude about 5 hours ago. i haven't finished all the Whiterun quests either. I've not been eager to rush but if I need to press on then I will for now just to get further and collect more.

Another question regarding excess loot. Do you store them like in a room and toss them all over or is there chest or boxes that keep them tidy for you?

LOL. This happened to me as well. I was bitching about it in OT1. There are just way oo many quests in this game that revolves around dungeon diving.
Pretty much every quest in the game boils down to "Go to this location and wipe out some guys." And yeah it can get a bit old.

At what point? I've got eighty hours in and I'm not getting bored at all. I was worried too as I did get tired of it in oblivion. But the dungeon design here is much, much better.

Well smithing after legendary is useless.

When you get to 100 skill in smithing, that's when it all starts. You also need to enchant a set of smithing gear; hands, chest, ring and necklace and drink up a potion of fortify smithing (+50%) and you get vastly improved results over what you'd get just by maxing the skill itself.

regarding The Whispering Door quest:

so who should I murder to power up that sWord? I've never really murdered anyone in cold blood in this game, yet.

Played a bit with melee build. It's totally different and doable. But I think I'll finish my mage walktrhough first because it's very hard to switch from a different mindset.

Can't imagine why they didn't just have a hard cap at 100. The whole system is so messed up; they need to make crafting skills level up much slower, and make enchanting constant-effect items much, much harder with more stringent requirements.

So I had a potion of Fortify Enchanting (for 30 seconds items are enchanted 4% stronger) and I have 81 or so enchanting. When I used a Grand Sould to enchant a ring/helm/armor/necklace WITHOUT the potion I can get -23% Destruction Reduction.

So I assumed with the +4% that I'd be sitting at 27% making it over 100% with all 4 and free destro casting.

But they still show 23% and I still have a cost (albeit very minimal) associated with destro casting.

Couple questions:

Did I do something wrong? Is it 4% OF 23% that it adds? Like I might be going from 23.01 to 23.91 or something and can't see it?

Is it the fact I'm enchanting lvl 81 and not 100 that is causing my base enchant to only be 23% and not 25% (potion not included)?

After looking some things up on google I think I want to finally start the Dark Brotherhood quests for the Ancient Shrouded Armor. From what I can see the enchants on that gear doesn't scale like the Nightingale armor does, so it doesn't matter if you end up getting this at an early level. As far as smithing and upgrading goes does anyone know whats the highest you can upgrade that set? or if its even possible? I know you could upgrade the Nightingale set.Do the +blacksmith gear and potions make a difference in upgrading gear like that?

smithing is kind of strange sometimes. I noticed you can upgrade the Krosis mask to legendary if you have perks in the magic armor AND daedric armor from the Smithing tree.

I think the potions actually add to the skill itself (so +4% would make your enchanting skill 85), not make everything stronger by a percentage.

@Confidence Man:

Yeah, especially given that in alchemy, the skill increase is dependant on the value of the potion created. It should've been the same for enchanting and smithing so that you couldn't just craft iron daggers till you reach 100. Probably one of the first mods that'll come out after CS is released is going to do just that, and rightly so.

I store my loot in my houses. Each house will have various ways to store loot: chests, barrels, cupboards, end tables, dressers....the most expensive ones have display cases and mannequins for weapons and armour.

Not that bad but still not something I'd like to lose. :\

Seriously, that's nothing. In Morrowind and Oblivion you lost ranks in skills. Which was useful incase you wanted to max out all attributes, you had to do it to max out all attributes actually. IIRC.

I'm guessing it's like Monkey Island's insult swordfighting!

I want to throttle whoever dreamt up this Dark Brotherhood quest. The mark doesn't sleep, and - when in the 'bonus zone' - always hangs out either in the middle of town, in the court of the Jarl, or in the common room of a pub. Goddamnit.

No need to invest perks in alchemy:

That's 1 handed.

PS. Non-enchanted weapons > enchanted weapons :D

I feel so out of place at the Mage college in Winterhold, especially as a core Warrior. Barely had enough magicka to keep up the lesser ward, haha.

Nothing drastic as far as I know; aside from having to retrieve your stuff, I think you lose any progress to the next skill level on all skills.

If you serve time in jail though you also lose everything you've stolen unless you break out and retrieve it from the Evidence Box.

Just imagine that 90 damage sword with maxed out one handed perks (double damage) + wearing up to 4x 40+% one handed damage enchanted gear...

It's actually easy.

Anyone who uses the complete holy trinity is gonna make their game super boring, without alchemy perks I'm already completely destroying the game on Master difficulty.

Because it was so OP, I've been sneaking, shooting with my bound bow and swinging a non-upgraded 2 handed sword lately... all without perks.

Heh, the moral dilemma's this game presents to an anti-Thalmor Imperial supporter are pretty cool, if probably inadverted. :lol

Just came across a group of Thalmor escorting a captive Nord. They were going to "interrogate" him, so I killed 'em. I freed the captive, and the first thing he says is "The first Imperial I see is DEAD".

I didn't give him the chance.

I did the same.

So I had a pretty amazing experience last night. I go to do a bounty on a dragon. Elder Dragon, sitting in front of me. I'm reading my first Incinerates, and suddenly I'm being hit by Ice Breath. The dragon in front of me isn't doing anything. First thought: "fucking Bethesda games, glitching out".

Then I turned around and saw the other dragon.

Eventually I killed the Elder Dragon, but let loose another extra Incinerate just as it died. It hit the ragdoll, which went FLYING INTO THE SKY,

HIT THE OTHER DRAGON,

CAUSED THAT DRAGON TO CAREEN TO THE GROUND,

AND SLIDE UP A MOUNTAIN.

Where I killed it with one more Incinerate.

DOVAHKIN.

So, I'm on my way to Riften, visiting the town for the first time after 47h of playtime, and I ... I think I just saw two black mages ... hunting a goat? They were running around, casting some spells, but I couldn't see any wolf, bear or monster. Just few goats.

Skyrim?

Yep, I have two weapons with stats like that (just that mine each have two enchants on top of it) and that is how you go about it. On one hand it is completely broken and will make you an unstoppable killing machine. On the other, that is half of the fun an Elder Scroll games.

Anyway, as of this morning I have just finished up the last achievement. The Oblivion Walker one was a close call, since I apparently made a wrong choice earlier in the game in the Daedric mission outside of Dawnstar. Luckily there is a way to exploit one of the other missions to get both rewards so you can still have the 15 artifacts. This is the closest to being a "difficult" achievement in the game, but I think only because it is sort of unclear exactly what you need to set off the requirement.

It took me around 90 hours. There is still an absolute ton that I haven't finished up and my quest log is still jammed pack. I think I am going to go over to Arkham City now that I have it on Steam, but I am debating when I come back if I want to continue my current character and go explore some more and start up a mage.
