The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim |OT2| Team Edward's Revenge

can lydia die? after we got into a fight with bunch of bandits, she's no where to be found. after 10 hours, shes still missing. is she dead? i tried finding her body after the fight but couldn't.

I think the only way companions die is if you give the finishing blow. I've killed lydia countless of times because she keeps running into my swings :/

What happens with Steam achievements if I open the console and edit some thing? Two quests have bugged out completely for me, and I want to set the quest progress manually. Will it lock me out of any achievements on that save? Or is it like New Vegas where I'm locked out of achievements until I restart the game?

Nope, all companions can die except for the few "story essential NPCs". My Lydia has died numerous times, she's a death magnet. I've since married Aela the Huntress and have her as my follower since supposedly she can't die. I now leave Lydia to watch my summer home in Whiterun

I reload the last save before she died and tell her to wait in the other room and/or away from the fighting while I go and do my bidness. That way she can't die and I can go back and get her :)

I need to get some smithing done - I have tons of dragon scales/bones.. My smith skill is very low as I haven't concentrated on it after nearly 50 hours of gameplay. Are there any NPC's that will forge for me or what is another way I can accomplish this without actually doing it myself?

No. Just craft iron daggers. Your Smithing skill will raise quickly with little effort.

Mace of Molag Bol. God damn!

Yeah, this is my soul collector. I use this and Sanguine Rose with occasional switching to other summons or destruction magicks and I've filled a whole inventory full of soul gems in seconds. :)

Also, at level 36, I finally decided to continue the main quest in allowing the dragons to spawn. That first dragon died in 3 lightning bolts. I apparently already had 7 shouts, but I can only use 2 for now. All of my randomly spawned dragons seem to be Frost Dragons.

What are Skyrim's rules on marriage? Can you get divorced? Can you have multiple wives? Same sex marriage?
You can't get divorced but on the PC there is a divorce mod. You can only have one wife/husband. Same sex is okay and any race. I don't know if you can re-marry if your spouse dies/murdered (by you). As you may know, you need the Amulet of Mara and see the priest in Riften.

They really should have made it so that crafting items capped at a certain skill levels so you can't level up a profession with the easiest recipe.

Just had my first crash at level 21 after 30 hours... and the second 10 minutes later, awesome. PS3 version.

Only two crashes on PS3? o_O Lucky duck. I crash at least twice a day. Can't even remember the amount of times I've crashed - I think Skyrim's beaten out New Vegas in that category already.

The patch really helped, though. I guess I'd rather crash once-twice a day that 4-5.

They should also make it so you don't have to grind on recipes. The problem with early level crafting is that adventuring rewards far outweigh what you can make/enchant, and crafting items gives relatively small skill boosts. Ideally crafting would have better items to make, be restricted in materials available (so you can't buy them off vendors and just power level), and provide larger skill boosts per craft.

This is really a problem with most games crafting systems though. WoW is improving a little by offering bigger recipes that provide multiple skill ups, but it still fails on usefulness in between level caps.

I just got absolutely battered by some Arch Cryomancer, his Ice Spear and Blizzard spell that makes you slow could literally 2 or 3 hit me. I need me some magic resistances on my warrior.

That would make sense, but my Lydia absolutely died of no fault of my own. I was fighting a Blood Dragon and she died while I was nowhere near her.

Curious if there are any other loners out there. All this talk of companions seems foreign since I never use them. Since I'm a stealth character, they would just get in the way, so I never use them. In fact I got so annoyed with the dude in my house in Markarth that last night I escorted him out of the city and executed him in private, tossing his body (and sword) over a waterfall. The lady in Solutude is next, once I figure out how to sneak in since I'm
wanted for attempting to kill the Emperor and all.

I work alone.

I dont really deal with them...they were a pain in the ass in New Vegas and I doubt they are much improved here, especially since they dont have any interesting quests to go along with them.

Also the game is already easy enough another NPC that doesnt die tagging along with you would make it easier.

Plus with
Call of Valor
you get an instant companion when you need them.

Solo al 90 hours so far. If i need help i just summon my deadra buddy, fire atronouch or the mage shade. I used a companion altrough New Vegas, so this is refreshing for me.

I never use them simply because they get in the way and interfere in my playstyle. Plus I have to worry about getting the finishing blow on them.

Hell, I find it extremely annoying when my horse charges into combat which for some reason ends up flagging me as "detected" half the time even when invisible and silent. Plus it then means I have to charge in quickly to avoid having yet another dead horse.

Unrelated:

Aside from some of the bugs, and the limitations/scaling of magic in this game, I think the biggest disappointment are the various faction sidequests.

Take The Companions
I perform 2 menial tasks by carrying a sword and shield to someone, I kill a single wolf, beat up a guy with my fists, and gather a fragment of an axe as part of a trial, and inadvertently learn the big secret in doing so. This then gives you an invitation to join the core group barely any time after joining.
The other groups also suffer from these extremely rushed pacing issues.

My companion is hard to find because he is part of one of the traveling caravans.

One of the Companion (Fighter's Guild) quests replaces your current companion with one of their members. This was extremely annoying because I lost my companion and all the gear he was carrying.

If you guys know what I'm talking about, could you tell me if there are any other points in the game where they replace your companion like that?

I had a dog follow me around for a bit, but he was being a little bitch.

I had a quest where I needed to walk on tiles in a certain order and the dog ran all over the place trying to follow me, setting off a fire trap getting himself killed.

good riddance.

IM finished the main quest and now just mopping up achievements.

Scared as HELL about the Oblivion Walker achievement. Do not want to stuff this up. I could get every achievement but it in this one play through and never want to play again.

I don't get it, why is it so scary and how you would you mess it up?

I used to think this, but then I got that dude from the Mages Guild and he kicks ass with his lightning bolts. He likes to keep his distance, so I don't have to worry about accidentally killing him. it's only when he runs out of magika that I have to be careful, but we pretty much slaughter everything within a few seconds. Took out an Ice Dragon in like, 15 seconds with both of us dual wielding lightning.

I lost my first companion, only to find him back in his hometown with most the gear I gave him decorating his house. He still carries that massive axe I gave him, though. I plan on switching out with him temporarily to get my things back. But for your character, I've no clue. I lost him for the same reason when I did the companion quest, but haven't found anything other quest that does the same yet.

So I finally bought my 2nd house in Markarth (not 2nd in the city, 2nd in the game) and all I have to say...... I LAUGH at the peasant quarters offered in Whiterun. They dont hold a candle to my towering monolith of magic that I just purchased. Such an awesome house.

Yeah, best house by far, totally regret buying the one in solitude

I ought to. I am getting so sick of Lydia being 100 feet away, lost, and/or completely worthless. She doesn't seem to do much to aid me, outside of taking aggro when I don't want to be the first one at the wrong end of a rabid frost sabre cat.

holy crap, ancient dragons are beating the crap out of me. At level 50 they hurt pretty badly (a full face of them breathing on my gets me to 10-20% health) but then again so do I >:D

Markath has the best hose in the game but I used Breezehome the most because it was the fastest to get to from fast-traveling to the city so that I can just store loot and get out

Guysssss, I keep getting one-shot-killed by Forsworn mages who cast some ice spells. Why am I so weak against magic? It's the second area I can't clear because of mages:(

Erandur for the win as a companion. Although it might put the game on Easy Mode to a certain extent. Guy's probably the top tier. I think he's super cool, too.

I used her for that until I bought Breezehome. I then promptly murdered her and took everything she has been lugging around for me. No more "I am sworn to carry your burdens."

OK I still cant access this game on steam, same as I spent an hour this morning trying and the game not working

Up until today, game ran fine. Now, when I hit "play" from steam I get the launcher screen but hitting "Play" doesnt work - I just get the launcher screen coming up again.

Steam seems incredibly obtuse to me. I tried every button and screen but cant find what my patch history is. Is 1.3 on there? Auto update is set on, I've been hooked up to the internet all the time so it may have downloaded it in the hours I have spent trying to get the game to work. But I saw no sign of that (eg that download progress bar that appears on the steam UI)

I'm so frustrated its unbelievable. But what makes it worse is there is no error message, it just doesnt work.

Keep validating the game files until it works. That's what I did to fix the exact same problem you have.

Depends o my character - some are more or less social than others. Some of my character have companions because they're friends or lovers - some have companions because they need the hired muscle and labor. Some are complete loners, where companions would only get in the way.

AH FINALLY! Thanks man, as soon as I did that it started downloading so I think its gonna patch and work...

yep worked! Thanks again! I paid $150 for this game, but its been good value (steam shows played for 146 hours!)

In some of the Daedric quests you can miss the special item depending on some of your choices.

So wait, I had the Septimus Lexicon and then I used it to level up 5 points in several skills. Does that mean I am already screwed out of getting the achievement?

Holy crap I just found an ebony armor in some random forsworn chest that wasn't even locked. Nice!:)

edit: Why won't Lydia equip the armor I give her? Same as the one she has (steel armor) but with some stat boost.

I can see that, but I'm loving the fact that I have my own Arcane Enchanter in my house. That's worth the extra trip.... if I could only get a workbench, grinder and forge in my house too, I'd be complete
