The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim |OT2| Team Edward's Revenge

Just got this game yesterday and finally started playing an hour or two ago. I'm more or less new to these sorts of games and already have a problem:

I was invited into Hadvar's home and thoughtlessly tried to steal from him. His daughter saw and the wife came at me with a knife. Now I know I'll be fine without that relationship, but I'd really rather undue what just happened. Of course.... I haven't saved yet. So is the only way to undo what's happened to start all over again?

The game keeps 3 autosaves. Just check in your load screen.

Well then. Bethesda ain't so bad after all.

Now I'd like to say that this game's potential is fucking terrifying. It's beautiful, every aspect of the world is totally engrossing, and there seems to be an endless array of options. I can't stop inspecting everything. I don't know if I care about what Alvor's wife thinks about the war, but I ask her anyways. I think I need to develop some standards in how/what I engage with the world, else I spend the rest of my days carefully scrutinizing and scanning Skyrim with a fine-tooth comb.

Anyone know what's up with a Dewlmer ruin called Alftand? I got all the way to the end of this huge place, but cannot activate the altar/thing, says I'm missing an item. Is this quest related or is the item somewhere in the ruin and I just ran past it?

Can't help you. But I can say that alftand in Danish/Swedish/Nordish means elf-tooth.

You'll get something later to use there

I'm looking to do a two-handed/heavy armour build and use the alchemy/enchanting trick to get super overpowered gear.

What race should I start with. I'm thinking Nord.

I'll settle for an easy access door for a later time then. I kinda figured it was substantially big enough to be a part of some quest I had not triggered yet, but once you walk in it's hard to just turn around and go home.

I'm 170 hours in and there's no question in my mind that it deserves GOTY. I've had a few bugs but nothing unforgiving. I'd even go as far as saying it's my game of the generation.

What's up with some dragons?I tried to kill one, but the fucker stayed in the air, flying backward everytime I tried to approach him.

It addicted me, but its not GOTY. Too many bugs, too many broken design decisions and a developer that can't get shit right hurts it greatly.

Still fun though since I no longer give a fuck about breaking the game since it was broken from the get go.

I love this game, but once I finish up with this character (and I mean finish EVERYTHING), I think I'm going to take a break from the game for about a year or so and let the modders get to work.

It's basically what I did with Oblivion and it worked out wonderfully. I put around 60-70 hours in vanilla, then lost interest for over a year only to come back and play OOO 1.3 and pour another 100 hours into it.

Got plenty of games to distract me in the meantime!

That sounds suspiciously like my strategy for Oblivion and Skyrim as well :D With Oblivion I stopped playing so that I could play Rome Total War. When I came back to Oblivion the second time, the modders had done so much that I sunk another fifty hours into the game thanks to their mods. Still, the amount of mods already out make me wonder if we will have to wait that long for great mods to come out. Now, if you want great mods that are stable, then we will probably have to wait a while for Bethesda to finish updating the game itself at least.

One of the loading screens says that the Bretons get a 50% magic resistance right out of the box, I would probably pick that if I was starting over again.
25 % sounds more balanced. My imperial dude has shitty magic resistance, so he's totally tank vs physical enemies and dies in a couple of shots vs master mages. Just the way I like it!

At the end of the Thieves Guild questline, you're told that
if the Nightingale sanctuary is ever in danger, the shadows will call you back to defend it
and at the end of the Dark Brotherhood questline, you're told that
if someone ever needs someone murdered and calls on them, you'll be called back to do it
and at the end of the Daedric Influence questline, you're told that
you and the ancient abyss are gonna fuck shit up together
.

Does any of that stuff happen ever? It seriously seems after hours of playing that it doesn't.

Nope. Maybe in DLC or something.

Where can I find good spell books? I'm lvl 34 and my destruction skill is already at 100, but the strongest spells I have are incinerate and icy spear, which are only expert level spells.

I'm glad Grandpa porked a Chinese Muslim
I finally got around to maxing out my alchemy, so I'm ready to make my uber-gear. Question I have is: does the potion timer (specifically on fortify enchanting) still toll while I'm entering a custom name on gear? This might not be an issue on PC, but on PS3 it's a pain to type things quickly.

I belief one of the people in the college will offEr you a quest for master spells once you hit 100 destruction.

You gotta be shitting me...

Final mission of the Civil War as a Stormcloak
we are storming Solitude to finally liberate Skyrim, and off the distance over the city, I see a dragon. AWESOME. Should make for an Epic fuckin fight!

After I ravaged through the city, into the Castle where the Imperial general surrendered, that damn dragon was too stupid to come down and join the fun (like every other dragon in this stupid game). The general is dead and Ulfric is going to deliver this epic speech honoring me after all these dragging quests, to his troops gathered in the courtyard.

We go out the door, and of course, the dragon is wrecking havoc upon the poor tired souls. In one last display of heroism, the Dragonborn saves the day... and the speech never triggers.

I load up before entering the room to kill the general, to try to catch the dragon's attention, and the fucker won't come down even if he has fireballs storming all around him.

Woe is me...

I married wife 3.

I liked Ysolda: pretty, has a cute voice, reminded me a bit of my wife. But the rags were too much and I wanted someone would could follow me and cause damage.

So I married Aela. Loved the sideboob, she was killer with a bow, and back to the boobs she looked fantastic in Forsaken armor. ;) But her man jaw and Claudia Christian voice started to get to me. Besides, I think she had acne scars. So divorce #2 happened.

I relented and went with my heart. I knew it was inevitable. I mean, she was fucking sworn to carry my burdens.

And she looked soooo bored waiting for our wedding.

No you don't. Don't lie. Now make me a homecooked meal.

Doing my first quest after joining the companions and I reminds me how shallow the quests in this game are. Go from A to B and kill everything. That's usually just fine, but sometimes I'd like a bit more. This could've been such a good quest with a bit of story and tension and everything. But instead of that, I went there, killed the four dudes and now I have to escort that bitch all the way back to Winterhold.

Played a couple of hours with my hamsom Nord warrior. Wailing on everything with a giant warhammer is seriously fun. I cbf with Master mode with this character, I wanna feel like a monster so I'm playing on Adept.

Got my smithing to 40ish and I crafted myself some Dwarven gear and it's ugly as fuck. Can't wait until I can use the ebony set.

Here's some wallpaper material

If you've already been to Winterhold, you can just fast travel there and your escort NPC will teleport there with you.

So, a few questions.

-Are Scrolls totally useless (since I can't learn them permanently afaik)? Like since they're one time only I should probably off them for cash, right?

-When using the X Weapon of Souls, how do I make it so it fills a gem? Does this happen automatically, or do I have to equip a type of gem to it?

I've been finding scrolls to be relatively useless for my particular build (one-handed/magicka, heavy armor) since I'm using my destruction/conjuration spells left and right. There are some nifty ones like firestorm and blizzard, but the 'make enemy X flee for 60 seconds' scrolls I haven't even touched yet. My main problem with them is that they all seem to be 'charged' spells in that you have to hold down the attack button to charge them up before they release. Which in the heat of battle is not always a convenient thing to pull off.

Any soul trap enchanted weapon will automatically fill an empty soul gem of the appropriate size when you kill an enemy. The caveat for most of them is that you have to kill the enemy within a time frame (highest I've come across so far is 4 seconds). Human souls need at least a Black Soul gem as their soul is too big for anything less.

What should I do with my gold in this game? I have like 30k at level 20. I have a horse and house. My weapons and gear is better than store stuff, unless the god store stuff is hiding somewhere.

Spend your money on training stuff that you don't normally train. I'm lv66 now and training pickpocket and lightarmor is a pain since I never specialized in them. You can only get 5x training per level (doesn't matter what school).

Also buy all the alchemist ingredients, you might need them later.

Is there a way to change of the look of your character with a mod?
You can use 'showracemenu' to reset how you look.

Are all the treasure map chests bugged? Got maps 4 and 10 yesterday and neither location where the treasure should be had a single thing.

Used the command console. Right?

Didn't think you could marry Lydia. How does it work?

So I was fighting this crab and this topless fugitive guy ran up to me and was like "I thought I heard something, I need you to hold on to this, and-" then I just watch the crab kill him, am I missing anything important?

On the subject of stuff I learned recently:

120+ hours into the game, my 6 year-old shows me that pressing Y while riding my horse will make it jump. (I knew it would make it back up when standing still.)

Last night I discovered that the crossed swords on the shield racks on the walls of my house are actual swords I can take down and replace with other weapons. I thought they were part of the background design for the shield. Moar weapons to pimp.

Last night I googled a couple of the quest objects I'd been sitting on for weeks and found the people wanting them. Nice to be rid of the weight.

Buy more houses.

I have 100,000 gold and three houses. :\

Really should have been a couple of 100k mansions with 25k upgrades.

I found Meeko at his shack, but I can't talk to him and ask him to come with me. Yet I can't get that other dog at Markarth. WHAT'S GOING ON

Dunmers get 50% fire resistance, so that doesn't sound too off the mark. Imperials don't have great magic resistance, but they get a speech bonus. Something about their authority and 'when they talk, people listen'.

Speaking of pickaxes, anyone else here ALWAYS carry one with them? It's like my AmEx card in this game.

Also, anyone enchant their pickaxe for fun? I got a cubic buttload of soul gems so was thinking of doing it for fun.

Speaking of enchantments, list some of your uniquely named items! Here's a sample of mine:

Logan's Runners (boots w/ +6 stamina)
Raimi's Soul Swallower (axe w/ soul trap)
Dome of Thunder (helmet with destruction casting bonus)
Merlin's Mitts (gauntlets w/ +6 magicka)
