Why did they change the dark elf voice again? I fought the spider and freed the dark elf guy and in the gameplay walkthrough that character had a voice similar to the dark elves of morrowind, the deeper, rougher voice. Now they've changed it. They did that in Oblivion too. Why can't they keep the better voice for the actual game? Why only have it in videos?
I like having a companion. I just don't like how much the companion repeats the same thing OVER AND OVER. Mjoll is a great warrior and was very helpful in absorbing damage when I'm fighting vampires and helps carry equipment, but it's extremely annoying to hear her say the same stuff over and over. It's especially annoying when you're talking to an npc trying to get quest details and she's blabbering about how much she loves nature in the background, causing you to miss parts of the current conversation.
I do have silent casting, and it is great. But I can kill a guy from the shadows with firebolts or lightning just as well without the runes. Maybe I'm using them wrong and just need to experiment more.
Gerda the Jarl's maid in Whiterun hired goons to rough me up. You don't have to get caught. I'm not even sure what I stole from them, probably just some coin purses. I don't steal much else since I have no way to sell it yet.
although I was kind of disappointed in the lack of conclusion in the quest (since getting the skull results in no more dialogue from either Vaermina or the Priest), there was a pretty good bit of decision making there. I figured the Priest of Mara was full of shit and trying to take the Skull the whole time since he seemed "shifty" so I immediately bashed his brains in when Vaermina said he was going to betray me. But then I had this nagging feeling, though, so I reloaded my quicksave and determined that he really was going to banish it and Vaermina was just tricking me.
...I killed him again to get the staff.
I don't know if Bethesda is working on the expansion yet, but I think Akavir would work pretty well - at first I was thinking maybe another Daedric realm like Shivering Isles, but the entire focus of the game/abilties is dragons and shouts which make no sense in a Daedric realm or even another part of Tamriel. It's pretty clear from the references that the Dragons in Skyrim came from Akavir, so if they did the expansion in Akavir, you could add more shouts/dragons without just saying, "Daedric Dragons!" or something.
I've avoided the main quest too and I've seen 4 now. I should note that I just did the first dragon fight and have avoided the meeting with the Greybeards.
Right you are.
I do that in all the Elder Scrolls games I've played so I don't miss anything important.
With Skyrim I really don't think It'll be a problem.
Time to do some main quests.

So I did 5 additional quests at whiterun, and when I go to talk to Delvin to get the mission "Imitation Amnesty", nothing happens and he won't give it to me. What gives?
I just wrapped up the main quest, as well as the quest lines for the companions, thieves guild, and dark brotherhood. Total playtime according to Steam: 66hours... in a week. I am positive that is not healthy.
I know this is very hyperbolic considering Skyrim has been out for barely a week, but its quickly become my favorite game of this generation, with Red Dead Redemption being the former owner of that crown. Sure there's plenty of broken stuff, but man...when all the pieces come together, there's no other game like this out there.
Granted I do have a slight bias towards the game since I eat up anything fantasy related like pretzels, and a good way to make me love your game is to give it an amazing soundtrack (which Skyrim obviously has). Plus the MMO player in me adores the open-world, "craft your own story" approach to game design. But that said, I haven't touched any other game since Skyrim's release, and have no urge to either. The constant excitement over exploring the world and slaying dragons appeals to the 10-year old in me in such a huge way.
It's not hyperbole. Skyrim is one of the best RPG's ever made. For me one of the best games period. Without doing any quests it's still worth every penny trying to see every place on the massive map. I haven't even fucked with the story yet. I'm just roaming all the areas.

Hahaha yes I had this same problem with her. Of the companions I've had with me, she's the absolute worst when it comes to this. She'll just stand next to me and babble on while I'm trying to talk to people.
I finished the main quest tonight. Fully satisfying.
I saw one flying above white barrow ruins... the place where you begin the golden claw side quest, from way below the mountain. But by the time I got there it was gone. Haven't seen one since.
Is there any difference between your followers aside from weapon/magic focus? I just convinced an orc to follow me and I was wondering if he was any hardier than Lydia.
One of them will be carrying a contract. She wrote that "you need not kill him, but I have no qualms about it if you deem it necessary." Naturally they tried to kill me.
If this game didn't have such awesome dungeons, I would have dropped it already. Whether I think it is a 4/5 or 5/5 game depends on how much the game breaks in the later levels.
I've been doing Illusionist/Archer who sneaks a lot on Master difficulty. Mostly without companions and shouts. It has been pretty damn tough and forced me to be careful. Do a lot of hitting and running away. However now I'm finally getting companions, shouts, and I have this power where I can revive nearby enemies to be my minions. It is awesome to have all of these utility powers. However I get the feeling I am nearing the tipping point where combat becomes dull.
Fighting dragons lives up to the hype. I don't think I can't take them solo though. Good bless mammoths lol.
31 hours in, and this game continues to amaze. I can't think of another game that not only provides a massive, dense, detailed world, but also manages to pack it with an absolutely staggering amount of quests that are also of surprisingly consistent quality. It's really a phenomenal achievement. The sheer amount of worthwhile, meaningful content here is astounding.
Its a little earlier to be talking about expansions, but I seriously hope they add more spells and perk and/or perk trees.
Illusion and Alteration REALLY need more spells.
Maybe even bring back spellmaking.
Furthermore, if Hamerfell could fight off the Dominion and the Thalmor, there's no reason why Nords should bend a knee.
With that said, I'm kind of regretting giving up my (companion's quest spoiler)
werewolf form
. The
100% disease resistance
was really nice considering I didn't realize how frequently it was going to be occurring in Skyrim. But my Nordic warrior's heart was moved by Kodlak's speech and realized he wanted to be part of Kodlak's
undead fight from Sovngarde to reclaim the souls of the former companions
and didn't want to be fighting for the other side (no matter how great it sounds)...
ok, so i am of hte opinion that the Orc special power is waaaaay awesome! I was in a cave full of vampires, and they were wrecking my shit no matter what I tried. Then I remembered my Berserk power - 2x damage dealt, .5x damage received. Turned it on, plowed through the vampires in less than 10 seconds. So amazing. Best choice ever for a 2h melee character.
edit: Oh shit I just realized I have a disease that will progress to
Vampirism
. Is that curable?
edit2: Ok got rid of it with a shrine.
Am I just terrible at this game or is the combat system really that shitty?
Having to go in the favorite menu, unequip my weapon, equip the fire spell, exit the menu, wait for my character to put his weapon away and pull up his hand, and finally being able to cast, is ridiculous.
You have a huge array of spells and weapons, but instead of giving you a range of possibilities during combat all I can do is get gang-rushed by enemies and everyone starts to swing their weapons around. I can't imagine how the fuck I should be able to cast spells while getting hit in the face with a mace. The bow is good only because the AI has trouble path-finding, as soon as it gets close to you you are fucked and must go through the menu to put it away.
It should be two spells, two weapons, equipped at all time: L1/L2/R1/R2.
I can't defeat the hired thugs unless I spam arrows from two feet away while they hit me and pause the game and eat food and potions constantly.
Having to put away my weapon or shield just to cast a defensive spell is retarded.
Shouts, spells, weapons, everything is a pain in the ass to use without getting clobbered.
is that the stray dog? i took him home and left him by a nice cosy fire where all he did was whine and bark. then he had disappeared when i went back there later. good riddance, the noise was infuriating.
Companions are awful, especially as a Stealth character. The dog was cute and I felt bad about getting rid of him, but he just doesn't work if you're trying to stay hidden.

I find the combat pretty good in this one. I wreck shit with the bow in stealth, then whip out my 2 hander and finish the job with a good shout and swing.

as a fellow magic user, i feel your paint. well, felt. i'm on pc and fixed the problem by assigning spells to numbers - just tap the number once to instantly switch to it in the left hand, tap it twice to switch it to the right hand. was amazing when i figured that out. pretty sure the console versions have a quick select too
I'm at the point where 80% of the enemy's go down super fast with my awesome lightning powers. I have marciuro spamming lightning, and two perma storm atronachs spamming lightning. There is so much lightning.
That said I am still super fragile, 1 or 2 good hits and I'm dead. Ancient dragons don't take any of my shit.
