ahhhh thats not the point.
im a firm believer that everyone should get their day in the sun, but when people cry about Buemi and Alger getting the chop dont have the big picture in mind.
2 leave, 2 more enter, which ups the chance of having more exciting NEW drivers, not just guys wont go away.
I think Webber has proven his talent enough over the years to excuse him for one bad year. If he continues to be disappointing in 2012, its obvious his career will be on the line, and there will be a lot of pressure from Red Bull and of course he knows that Ricciardo and Vergne are waiting for his seat if the opportunity arises.

I dont see what the problem is. You're never gonna get a grid chock full of Alonsos and Hamiltons. Maybe if there was a severe lack of new drivers coming into the sport, I'd agree with you, but the young talent influx these past 5 years or so has been really strong, so I dont see what there is to complain about.

He had a bad year, but he's still the most likeable person on the grid. Relax man.

And I'm not even upset. Not that I dislike any of these guys, I just dont think anybody here is a huge loss for the sport. At least not in any tragic way.

I think the 2012 lineup is one of the most exciting in F1 history.
Yeah, I'm not upset as far as the best *drivers* go, as all the people out there at this point in time are either top-tier or having a crack at it... but, I just kinda empathise with some of the guys who should've been given a better shot, if it weren't for one reason or another that was out of their control. It's mainly Rubens, Petrov and Sutil who have all been decent drivers in 2011 given the equipment they've had.

But you're right. Aside from the debate about whether some of the paid drivers should be there or not, most of the field should provide for some exciting racing with a great mix of experienced drivers in mid-tier teams mixing it with some young guns ready to prove themselves. I'm quite excited to see what Ricciardo can do in the STR given that he took to the HRT pretty well last year (all things considered, obv.).

Ricciardo was very impressive. I knew he was doing ok by the little that we got to see of him in the coverage, but it really took me going through the FIA's timing sheets recently to see that he was clobbering Liuzzi after only a handful of races.

Wow?

Didn't you call Rubens and/or Massa a "zipperhead" all the time? I'd say that's kinda racist. And didn't you tell the users who asked you to stop that, just to ignore it and to shut up about it? Which would make you an asshole. And I'm pretty sure you got banned for that.

So, did I say something wrong?

edit: I'm sorry, FV. I didn't want to drag you into this, but your comment was just too perfect.

What on earth is a Zipperhead?

Is that like Zippy out of Rainbow?

Edit - Apparently not. Yeah, there's something I didn't need to learn today. =/

Again another WOW.
look at you fighting the good fight.
I call 'Rubens' zipperhead because he looks like Zippy.
And I am pretty sure I was banned for something else, not 'falsely percieved racism', but i like the route you are going :)

Nope, I'm pretty sure it was for that. It's not a coincidence that you stopped doing it since you're back.

E: But yeah, I'll stop now. I don't want to drag this thread even further down, sorry about that. Just couldn't hold back.

Back to good news, I just received my media accounts at McLaren & Williams! Now that I have access to Red Bull, McLaren, Williams & Caterham F1 boy are they LAZY. They have so much interesting content! Maybe "we" should make a GAF1 blog?

You know, I don't know exactly how it would work... but something like a GAF1 "blog" or news site with a handful of contributors could be interesting. It may not end up being much more than a few poached news items and press shots (with links where necessary, of course) but it could be an entertaining aside from here.

Or do you mean something like a movie/multimedia repository that we all chip in for to cover costs? Because I'd totally be up for that too, if you were happy to organise it :)

Can I just ask though, in what context are you scoring press access for the different teams? Do you contribute to other websites? (apologies if it's been answered before, I tend to glance over important details in threads fairly easily!)

Actually, I see a lot of news pop up here before anywhere else on newssites.

We should just make our own F1 newsblog, I'd happily help writing.

Well, I figure that with all the content I have discovered and my Engineering background I could create a blog with a lot of media and monetize it on YouTube and with ads. Then we could have pre & post race coverage, commentary etc.

But yes, I'm not asking but at $130/month the server costs are expensive so if anyone wants to donate at any point be my guest. I still have tonnes of old uploads and new content to publish in the future.

Likewise, it's almost like a good RSS feed with commentary. We would need a good dot com name. I would buy it.

Any other thoughts?

I demand my fanfic from the F1 2011 thread be a weekly highlight!
"So, FV. Would you like to join me on this leg of the Tasmania Challenge? I've already organised a tent just big enough for two, so when we finish we can retire to our campsite to enjoy some wine and brie" said Mark, seductively.
"Oh my word yes." replied Foliorum, hardly able to contain his excitement. "That's just the incentive I need to finish this part of the race even quicker. Shall I bring my sleeping bag?"
"There'll be no need for that, mate".

Oh wait. Different fanfic?

We might be a bit short for our GAF league race today, so if anyone fancies being a stand-in driver, just join the group chat on Steam.

It's Spa! 20 mins from now.

Fear not my friends, I will have both broadcasts ;)

What about gaf1.com? No, hmm, maybe something entirely different unrelated to GAF.

Edit: That SkySports teaser was really promising!

Damn, wish I'd seen this earlier! Would've been good to get a race with people doing it properly rather than treating it like fucking bumper cars.

The French Grand Prix could return to the Formula One calendar as early as September 2013, according to a report.

The country last hosted a Formula One race in 2008 at Magny-Cours, but negotiations about reviving the grand prix have been underway for several months now.

Gilles Dufeigneux, the man who is leading the projected, admitted in December that "all the indicators are green... or will soon be".

Now French newspaper Le Figaro claims the deal could be signed before the first month of 2012 is out and the first grand prix is likely to take place on September 1 2013 at the Paul Ricard circuit.

The race, though, will alternate with the Belgian GP for a period of 10 years.

Disappointing that they will alternate with Spa, but better than Spa being dropped completely.

Spa only every second year? The bells are indeed ringing for all the old traditional drivers' circuits. Such a shame.

On a different note, hello to all (first post in here), and a quick question, if I may: does anyone know what the broadcast arrangements for Australia are as yet? Whose feed/commentary will One use?

An F1 season without Spa just won't be the same. Such a highlight of the calendar every year and one of those races, like Monza and Monaco, that I feel should always be there no matter what. There's nothing else like it and it will be missed on the alternating years.

I have no idea what the French track is like, but I find it hard to imagine it will be a suitable replacement on those years.

Sorry, I know this isn't the F1 2011 thread so I'll make this my last post, but since we're halfway through and some people haven't made one race if you want to join us for the second half of the season permanently just pop in to the thread and say. :)
