Why is there so much hype on this game?

I'm pretty sure even if it's announced it won't achieve mainstream success.

Now before anyone gets defensive, I'm not saying only a game achieving mainstream success is good.

How many copies a game sells is irrelevant as to whether it's good or not, but I'm wondering why some people are saying that the last guardian releasing would break the Internet and would be the biggest thing ever.

It seems more like a vocal minority getting excited rather than the way people are portraying the excitement EVERY person on the Internet would apparently have.

Outside of neogaf it seems like most people couldn't give a shit about this game, or even have heard of it.

It's certainly tempting me into trying team ico's previous games though, to see what it's all about.

I didn't even like Shadow of The Colossus that much. I definitely liked some things about it such as the monster design which was incredible. But the gameplay felt kinda clunky. From what we've seen of TLG, the music and everything about the aesthetics seem fantastic yet again, even better than in SoTC imo. On top of that I think they could make the actual player movement etc. feel a lot better in a modern game.

Too good to be true. This probably is as well.

My guess is still that Half-Life 3 is going to be announced and released this summer. I'm guessing there's going to be about a week of cryptic clues that no one believes are legit. Then Half Life 3 is going to be formally announced and released on the same day.

The internet is going to explode and it's gonna be glorious.

Well I'd believe The Guardian. But then again the subject in question is The Last Guardian.

It'll be at E3 and on Vita. Believe.

Now now, lets not get ahead of ourselves. We need a 10 minute gameplay video ATLEAST that confirms this is what the fans are expecting, and not something modeled after TLG.

Fair enough.

If all they have is a splash screen with a logo and a release date... then it will be a massive letdown.

Damn...

If this is true, Sony wins E3 by default.

I'll be incredibly excited, but let's not go overboard. Neither Ico nor SotC exactly set the charts on fire. And pretty much nobody outside dedicated gamers has even heard of this game. Even if it's announced, it will produce barely a blip on mainstream media radar screens.

Thanks everyone for all your patience and understanding, but now we can get properly reveal what you've all been waiting for.

The Last Guardian TV series!!!!!

Debuting exclusively on PS Plus in the summer.

Why is there so much hype on this game?

Because ICO and Shadow of the Colossu are two of the greatest games ever made, and because the trailer for TLG showcased an awesome premise that captured the hearts of fans all over the world. There, it's not rocket science.

They haven't made a game in 10 years. I find it difficult to understand how much you can really improve on gameplay mechanics when you haven't put your neck out there and tested things in the public marketplace in years.

Isn't this game being developed with Ueda as an outside consultant and aren't they on a shoestring budget at this point?

LOL if this doesn't invalidate the article I don't know what would.

I don't think it really "Invalidates" the article, but I do think that points out a lack of research on their part. It also makes me wonder who the original source of "TLG will be at this e3" is, Kagari and other "insiders" have heard something similar, so I wonder if The Guardian is going off that, or are they going off "insiders on GAF say TLG will show up"

Either way, I'm past the point of caring whether it shows up or not. If a Ueda game shows up for the PS4, FANTASTIC. If not, oh well. I just can't get myself hyped for any news on TLG

All I can say is that very casual friends loved the Team Ico games(and Katamari) sometimes ask if they are on the new playstation because they want to play them. It's like the only games they know by name.

Well, Nintendo could top it with a surprise Zelda U showing with WAY more gameplay than TLG, but other than that, the hype for this game will blow the top off of everything else, IMO.

Reading the part about Zelda made me realise that they dont know what they are talking about. What makes me sad is that Sony can have a amazing show, but if TLG isn't shown people will go crazy on the forum. Just enjoy the show, TLG will come out when its ready.
