Good. Makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, true. They are not the same. But huge swaths of the medium do heavily, heavily borrow from cinematic narratives, aka "TV" and "movies".

Borrowing to profit, not necessarily because it's good for the medium.

Neil Druckman is obviously a talent who seems interested in making traditional stories. TV and movies are where he should go to pursue those interests.

Games should be about exploring what makes them special in the first place (player choice). Druckman stepping away while Naughty Dog focuses on Factions II is a great sign that someone over there gets it.

Play it on easy huh?
No but did you have any real interaction with characters? Any choices that mattered besides how to sneak by/kill an enemy. Your cant even do things in different order

more over - did it feel like YOUR experience was YOURS? Or was it 99% the same experience as anyone else who played tlou1/2 - you know.. just like a movie :)

Do you mean how literally every linear game is designed?

Cutscene > Linear Path > Fighting Section > Linear Path > Cutscene

The Uncharted series and Gears of War series have the exact same formula. Only major difference is that in Gears of War is there are boss battles at the end of levels.
Yeah gears is also a shitty example of how to design a game - good point

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
Seems like a good move, ND games are almost movies as is. Take away the player and there ya go.

It is a story driven game and they have the story they want to tell but there are many options in how you choose to tackle combat in the game. Put the enemy AI and awareness on grounded or survivor and it is fun trying to outsmart them .

It's undoubtedly been good for the medium; more variety with regard to the way the interactive element of the medium is applied... is good. That's where creativity and unique experiences are going to come from, the kind of thinking that leads to more variety and consumer choice.

But that certainly doesn't mean every cinematically-inspired game is going to be good. Obviously.

Games should be about...

Games are not a single thing defined by what any one person, or one group of people, wants them to be. "Games should be about" is not a statement that applies to anything but what you personally prefer, and it's exactly as valid as someone else giving the exact opposite opinion.

It's just not that kind of game, and most aren't outside of the WRPG sphere.

They had a story they wanted to tell and they did, letting the player fuck with it would have compromised its impact.

With regards to player decisions you are invited to make, they're plentiful and significant, especially on higher difficulties.

Man, what is wrong with people - he makes one controversial game and makes two amazing ones (UC4 and LoU) and was involved in many other amazing games and they lose their minds thinking everything is woke.

Watch it be amazing and win all the awards and have a great story and these stubborn people will still be like wahhh Neil is so woke bro can't believe he put a gay person in the show they don't exist irl.
its not gay stuff for me its the sad ending for elle that made me go f that.

My initial comment was taking the piss out of the exact people you're talking about lmao.

Story was fine. Ending was fine. Pacing was AWFUL. Replay ability non existent. People replayed earlier uncharted games multiple times (sometimes in a row). Drake's brother was a very repulsive character. Nadine the super woman was weird because earlier games showed drake a capable fighter. Not a wimp.
Compared to Uncharted 1 and 2, it's not even fucking close. Even the music is worse.

Yeah Lost Legacy was my favorite ND game from last gen and it was mainly due to the better pacing. Felt more like the Ps3 era of Naughty Dog when it was more about fun characters and the story being used to give context to cool gameplay moments instead of the Druckmann era where story rules everything.
It's because Druckman had nothing to do with the direction of it. Those directors should get a raise and hopefully direct the next Uncharted.

Totally agree. Also - the MUSIC was one of the main selling point. Why they changed the wonderful Clint Bajakian is beyond me. You could just stay on the main menu listening to the Nate theme and get pumped!
Well Greg Edmonson was the main composer for all 3 games in the original trilogy. I know Clint Bejakian did the score for Golden Abyss on Vita which was unbelievable as well. Seems like Bajakin only composed "The Empty Quarter" and "The Rub' Al Khali" in Uncharted 3 which are also both unbelievable.

HBO's upcoming adaptation of The Last of Us has added two new directors, a production list has revealed. In addition to previously revealed directors like Kantemir Balagov and Neil Druckmann, the series also now has directors Liza Johnson (Dead to Me, Barry) and Jeremy Webb (The Umbrella Academy, Shadow and Bone) attached. Exactly which episodes Johnson and Webb will be responsible for remains unclear, as does exactly when the show might release.

More specifically, Johnson and Webb's involvement was revealed by the Directors Guild of Canada in a production list update released yesterday. They are listed in the far left "Director" column for the production alongside the previously mentioned Balagov, Druckmann, Craig Mazin, Jasmila Zbanic, and Peter Hoar.

"Neil Druckmann is without question the finest storyteller working in the video game medium, and The Last of Us is his magnum opus," said Craig Mazin, who developed the TV series with Druckmann, when the HBO series was first announced. "Getting a chance to adapt this breathtaking work of art has been a dream of mine for years, and I'm so honored to do it in partnership with Neil."
