I just think it's a bit generic. Like, for some reason I'd actually prefer if Ellie or Joel was holding a machete.
Joel never uses one, and I think given Ellie's experience, I don't like the idea of her holding one looking all calm and collected on a cover.

I don't particularly like the new cover, I don't think it does a good job of evoking the game's tone or anything, but it is interesting to see Ellie retain her prominent position on the cover. I liked that she took center-stage in the first cover, especially as it seemed contradictory to all the Irrational Games talk at the time of Infinite's cover reveal. I wondered if her placement was relating to how they saw the relative importance of the characters, but I was doubtful it was anything other than coincidence, but this cover is a lot more clearly emphasizing Ellie, which is cool.

Well I guess I'm getting this now. I never got the ps3 version and was waiting for a discount and now this version appears to contain everything so far which is excellent.

So as I haven't really seen much of the game how is the gameplay best described? Is it a mix of stealth and uncharted? Or is it like heavy rain with QTEs? ( not a big fan of heavy rain and will skip last of us if it's like that...)

It is nothing like heavy rain. It's similar to Uncharted, but not the same. You can be pretty creative in how you deal with encounters.

Joel can get a machete off one of the searching bandits in the
ranch house (when Ellie leaves on horse) just before University.

is this from the ps4 version?

I distinctly remember this line regarding the ND Uncharted Engine and how it couldn't be licensed out...

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/featu...g-the-house-naughty-dog-39-s-second-team.aspx

Following the glowing reception of Uncharted 2’s polished gameplay, Sony experimented with the idea of licensing out the game’s engine to other developers. “We were getting lots of requests from both internal and external studios saying, ‘Can we license the tech? We’d love to make a game using that engine,’” says Wells. “But it just isn’t set up to be able to be worked on outside of our office.”

The inability to license out the engine due to Naughty Dog’s network infrastructure actually ended up working out to the developer’s advantage. Because only Naughty Dog was set up to work with the Uncharted engine, the only way to produce more games utilizing it would be to add on a new team.

Could this have been the factor that prevented the port from being handled by a 3rd-party team? Since there was no way for ND to take the tech 'out of their office?'

I really really want it, but I own it on ps3 and they want 69.99 cnd for a digital copy............seems a little high, atleast give me a 29.99 upgrade option or something.

Won't buy at that price.

No. What they're saying is that it's not very modular so it's not a good fit for licensing out like the Unreal Engine. Naughty Dog engines are fine tuned to run Naughty Dog game content and structure.

Does TLOU really demand 60fps? It would be nice, yes, but it is a very cinematic game.

Exactly. 30fps and it's a lag free moving image. Doesn't need to be smoother than that.
They better preserve the control and feeling from the PS3-version. Worst case scenario it's like Dead Space 2 where 60fps ruins it. It might be faster, but the feeling is gone and the controls feel weird. But as long as they adjust everything for 60fps it's fine by me.

Which magic version of Dead Space 2 did you play? :D

I'll probably pick it up. In a way, I'm disappointed as I feel the resources for this could of went towards a new ip or something but then I think of how good the game is and seeing an already good looking game perform even better and all the DLC.

So everyone's cool with rereleasing a game that came out last year but everyone was upset about Wind Waker HD because ???????

Well, that is some wildly inconsistent thinking if true. Personally, I was more okay with WW considering the major time lapse between the releases. I bought WW on the release day in 2003 and I gladly bought the enhanced version last year. There was no sense in 2003 that Nintendo was withholding a superior version of their game. Additionally, there were no digital downloads on GC (?), so Nintendo presumably don't even have the option to make the game cheaper for those who bought the original.

Regarding TLOU, there is something problematic about the situation. As a big ND fan who bought the game and the DLC early, there is a sense of disappointment that I got to play a technically inferior version of the game. This disappointment is made worse by the fact that I now have to pay full price again to get a version of the game that is not seriously limited by old technology. It would be trivial for ND to make the game cheaper for those who bought it on PSN, but it seems pretty much confirmed (considering that pre-ordering has started for the full price) that they will offer no discount at all.

I thought Wind Waker was ridiculous, because it's old primarily. I don't think that's strange, it's how we always judge game prices. If a game is a year old, and bundled with all the DLC, you assume a bit of a discount, $10, maybe $20, depending on the popularity of the game, and then in this case you have the graphical reworking and the fact it's a port, you're pretty much back at $60 in value. With Wind Waker, Okami HD had launched at $20, I felt like that was pretty much the standard Nintendo should have met.

Obviously if Zelda U launches on their next platform a year later with new content and some nice visual tweaks, it'll be worth full price, but I don't think WW should have been.

9/10 NeoGAFfers don't understand statistics. The other 3/10 don't care.
I have a few friends that went from 360 > PS4, so I am sure they will enjoy the opportunity to play The Last of Us.

With the Dead Space games on the PC the ingame Vsync option really is just a lock-at-30 fps option. If you want vsync but didnt want to be locked to 30 fps you had to turn it on within the control panel of whatever card you had and leave the ingame option off. Not ideal, but not exactly the most difficult thing to do either.

What is the issue with it? Does it fuck the controls because it was designed as a 30fps game? Do EA typically put much effort into their PC ports?

No, it's fine. It's just that they seemed to have gone with a framerate limiter instead of an actual vsync solution. Nothing wrong with the controls.

As far as the Last of Us is concerned, I dont mind 60 fps but it'll be a bit jarring if the video cutscenes are still rendered at 30 fps. Hopefully, they'll either make those in game or rerender them for the ps4.

They are rerendering them, no idea about if they'll bump them to 60 though.

Actually you didn't get to play an inferior version. At the time it was ( and still is until this summer) only available on PS3. TLOU coming to PS4 is awesome because then they can enhance the experience much further and at the same time maintain a rock-solid performance. On PS3 they used a lot of modern techniques in terms of visuals which at times were too much for the PS3 to handle while keeping the framerate steady. After a few patches certain scenarios are definitely improved in terms of framerate, but it still does drop a lot in some areas (even if I think it runs pretty great most of the time) which makes the shooting mechanics rather difficult to handle. So a flawless version in all aspects soon being released is an option which wasn't available before and thus it's more than welcome.

You know if you don't like it you don't have to buy it.
Sure. The full price isn't justified since it's an upgraded port of an already finished game. I doubt the work being put into the port as anywhere near the work that was put into the PS3-version. Although we do not know for how long they actually worked on this for PS4.

$59.99 is kind of shitty, but I lost my copy for the PS3 (or, rather, my dipshit friends lost it), and I do so very much love this game.

And I never got to play Left Behind.

So I'll pay it. I'll pay it, and I'll like it, and I'll support some somewhat shitty anti-consumerism.

I won't support your somewhat shitty post. Go back the to try past three years and tell me how much GOTY editions retailed for. Also, you're acting as if nothing has been done for this remaster. So you're telling me the additional content that's been added is all worthless? The game is only a year old and this remastered version won't take long to go down in price. What I'm really addressing in your post in the anti-commerism remark, whicd doesn't make sense to me.

I would love to double dip, since I haven't played the DLC and only one play through. I'm not putting out $60 though. I'll spend my summers outside, until the price drops.
