Good thing is that sites which wrote a negative preview like videogamer and cvg , changed their opinion after playing the final game

Yeah, very positive sign.

I want to read an opinion from one of my trusted neoGAFers, with the following things in mind:

¶ I want to see someone who didn't like Uncharted 3 and thought Uncharted 2 was pretty emblematic of the problem with AAA game design share their opinion on THE LAST OF US.
¶ I want to see someone who loved the Uncharted titles but didn't get into THE LAST OF US share their viewpoints. That would be fascinating to me too.
¶ I want to see someone who hates Quantic Dreams storytelling (and most games storytelling) describe their reaction to the narrative of THE LAST OF US. This would be very informative and telling to me.

He gave Ni No Kuni a 6.5...what the fudge. This guy should stop reviewing games. Only being half sarcastic.

It's just their opinion. People should just be up in arms because Polygon reviews are fucking miserably written.

What dude? EMARGO is hilarious. I'm calling it EMARGO from now on in neOGAF lol

This game has alot of neat stuff
It took us just under 15 hours to finish our first journey on the standard difficulty, and in that time we still somehow missed almost a third of the hidden collectibles. Throughout the game you’ll be gathering artifacts that tell the tales of other survivors, as well as comic books and dog tags. There are also survival manuals that enhance some of your abilities, as well as tool boxes and cogs. The latter can be exchanged at workbenches in return for weapon upgrades, while you’ll also happen upon medication which can be spent on improving Joel’s abilities. It’s unlikely that you’ll max out the protagonist’s attributes during your first playthrough, but fortunately there’s a New Game Plus option that allows you to expand the experience with all of your gear intact. Finally, you can purchase new costume skins, graphical filters, and concept art as you complete certain in-game tasks.

Why is all the focus on one bad review? Fck that and fck the review guy...lets focus on this great game and amazing scores.

Didn't Microsoft only fund the documentary and not their day to day operation or the creation of their site? Last time I checked the facts, this was the case.

You can literally buy some congressmen's votes with $8,000 donations. Microsoft gave them $750,000.

It's not proof of anything, but that is a shit load of money.

We can't expect a good score for a PS3 exclusive on Polygon.

The Last of Us - 7,5 (Metascore: 95)
God of War: Ascension - 7,0 (Metascore: 80)
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch - 6,5 (Metascore: 85) * the same guy, by the way

That site IS A JOKE.

I'll bet if you tried you could find 3 PS3 exclusives they scored above the mean as well.

A 7 for GOW Ascension is entirely reasonable and I say this as a big fan of the series.

so how spoilery is the GT review? I'm avoiding it by default just in case..

Well according to Vinterbird everything should be safe.

No one is allowed to talk about the beginning or anything after the halfway point. We can more or less only talk about the stuff you have seen in the trailers and nothing else. We can't even discuss some of the easter eggs and main character motivations.

They even gave Journey a 10 (Metascore: 92)

THEY NEVER GET IT RIGHT ITS A CONSPIRACY

and last of us 7.5 with metacritic at 9.5

so 1 of 5 times being out of touch with the quality of games in playstation3 isn't a great average. i don't think they are idiots. i think they know exactly what they are doing.they don't even bother hiding it.......

I fail to fit into any of those categories but I will still let you know what I think ;)

Anyone else scared of reading reviews for worry of spoilers?! I read IGNs and thats it.

Steered clear of Red Wedding spoilers and want to steer clear of Last Of Us spoilers!

I thoroughly enjoyed The Last of Us after the first few hours. It goes from regular season Roy Hibbert to playoff Roy Hibbert. Thankfully, it avoid Game 7 Roy Hibbert.
Lol. Amazing analogy.

I don't have a problem with the review or score.

Very interested in knowing that as well.

People still upset about 7.5 score . Its hust his opinion.
Gamespot also gave this game an 8 but he has high lighted some of the problems

Is it true that Microsoft funded Polygon when it was starting up?

yes and also their only major sponsor from console gaming

voxshitia.jpg

no sony/nintendo. media are always involved in scandals like these you think a gaming website wont favor someone that spends more money on them?

some people must be joking that claim "its just their opinion its normal".they must live in fairyland

AND it's fucking meaty?

Oh man, I cannot believe how fast my anticipation for LAST of US have turned around. Hope I'm not burning myself by allowing myself to get real excited now lol

Sounds like the collectibles and upgrades in Tomb Raider lol. I don't want to derail this thread, but I loved Tomb Raider and you definitely did not.

I hope you enjoy TLoU though.

Is it true that Microsoft funded Polygon when it was starting up?

Sort of yes. Indirectly anyway. They gave them $750,000 for a "documentary". But there are many examples of dodgyness that have nothing to do with this review. They're very close to essentially being corporate PR machines. Helping spin lies and all sorts.

Polygon is bad, but let's not pretend for a second that 90% of the other mainstream video game "journalists" are any less corrupt or that the system isn't broken just because they gave out a handful of 10s. The whole relationship between the press and the industry is incredibly incestuous. Polygon is hardly an exception.

First, "GAF" is not a hivemind, and you should probably learn that because mods ban for that shit. Just a heads up, not trying to be mean I don't want to see you gone just because you're being a little naive. Also, nobody hates games that review well - nobody is in kindergarten or thinks it's hip to "go against the crowd." Virtually all us like this simply don't care about reviews one way or another and form their OWN individual opinions, which often are at odds with the reviews because game journalists are a joke.

So Darknessbear, do you really need to do this AGAIN? Just ignore the posts that offend your delicate sensibilities, and quote and respond to posts which frolic without negativity and have rainbows and pretty butterflies hovering over their posts ;P

Isn't this the same "hivemind" stereotyping spun positive? You're painting a flattering picture of the forum as uniform when this thread -- indeed the page I see your post on -- abounds with instances of pure lunacy. The lunatic responses aren't "GAF" in general, but no amount of Pollyanna optimism can conceal their existence. In fact people of the mindset you describe seem to be in the minority in this thread. You say most simply aren't concerned about reviews one way or another -- To the contrary, I see many, many people obsessed with scores, already armed with fully-formed and inflexible expectations, who see literal conspiracy in anything that can't confirm their bias.

The way I see it:

10- a masterpiece
9- amazing
8- great
7- good
6-average
5 and below- bad

it doesn't matter what you see it as but if every other major publication has given the game 10, then a review of 7.5/8 is something that should be criticized. Polygon received MS funding of 750k and MS has also got some advertising deals with CNET, the parent company that owns Gamespot , a highly controversial website.

These 2 reviews wont matter since more credible sites like IGN and EUROGAMER gave the game 10 ,along with 24 other publications till date.Reviews influence purchase decisions and this is a high time SONY bans publications who review games on some sort of "personal vendetta" or some "viral marketing"

@jeff

excellent tweet you got there bro. These things should stop asap. These devs spend countless hours to produce something that deserves all the accolades .

You sound like a 9/11 truther but for something infinitely more trivial.

Watched Adam Sessler Reviews in the 1st post.
12 minutes of him talking about how emotional the game madce & that he loves the acting, facial expression & story. Oh a few seconds he mentioned the 3 types of enemies in the game & I think he hinted that the game might be 3rd person shooter with some stealth elements.

This is why I really wanted Gamespots Kevin Van Ord to review this game, he is one of the few people who's opinion is worth a damn.

From all that I gathered, this game is Uncharted with some shitty stealth elements thrown in & heaver emphasis on story breaks.
Still the same shallow, linear, hand-holding, autopilot gameplay that Uncharted was?

Let's define "out of touch with the quality of games." It sounds like you mean that any deviation from the average is "out of touch," but of course this is a nonsensical definition. By its nature an average is useful because of variability in data. This means there are data points above and below the average. If everyone who doesn't rate something exactly the same as the average is "out of touch" then that means the majority of reviewers are "out of touch," all the time. It means the majority of data collected about anything are "out of touch" by your standard.

But let's take your claim seriously. We have the data necessary to take every one of Polygon's review scores for a PS3 game and compare it to the metacritic average and calculate an index of bias. Until someone does this, everyone should stop whining about Polygon and proceed to whine about something else.

Did you? He criticizes it for being ultra violent and keeps going back to it, almost as if he wants it to be another game or something.

Yea I guess he has no point then? Violent zombie games sell, I guess?

At least you are weighing the content and not merely the score attached to it.

I wanted the last game I bought for PS3 to be a good one, & from what I've been reading it sounds like TLOU is just that. Too hyped right now! Game of the Decade? Sold.

I don't trust reviews one bit. Uncharted 3 got similar scores, maybe not so many 10's and it sucked.

I'm still getting TloU though.

i think having dignity is important. nothing will happen to last of us for a polygon lolreview. but i dont like fooling people by trying to look "honest".

Numerical scores have always been shit. They were shit for movies and music albums, and they're even shittier for games. Who gives a shit. GTAIV was one of the highest games of all time!! el oh el.

EDIT: Referring to the fuss about Polygon.
