The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel |OT| Class Warfare

Agreed, while overall it's not as good, but there are no one who sounds out of place.

It kinda bugs me that Mirage Space and Time are not treated as weakness/resistances anymore In 3rd they changed it but reverted again in Cold steel. For FC/SC my personal pet peeve is that those three are not treated as the same with the 4 "classic" elements
That actually has a narrative reason. The majority of The 3rd takes place in a... place where the three higher elementals -- space, mirage, and time -- are active everywhere. Like Zero/Ao, Cold Steel, too, has particular places where these higher elementals are active as well, such as ancient ruins or places with great spiritual energy. The fact that you haven't run into them yet doesn't them it's not there anymore.

Sharp memory, that's right, I remembered
Kevin mentions after the first battle in the Emerald Labyrinth

Oh does benched members gain experience in cold steel?

Final chapter sidequest "Duly Noted", also Trails of Zero/Azure related:

Haha, the Vice Principal's a fan of Rixia Mao, almost in the wota idol-worshipper sense. Makes me wanna play the Crossbell duology even more. Funnily enough, I know who she is even without playing them. I was already spoiled on one of the things about her.

Oh does benched members gain experience in cold steel?

Yep, they sure do.

Oh, that's awesome. They wear that
festival costume for their performance
in that title screen where the cast is sitting on a train if you load a save during the
festival
in the final chapter.

Excited to get this once it releases in Europe late next month. How is the pacing of the game? I found TitS very slow and from what I hear a lot of that games story relies upon its sequels. Is this the same?

So why is the Collector's Edition so much more common than the regular edition? I was about to give up finding a physical copy locally and I just randomly searched for the collector's edition and all my local gamestops had a copy.

Its slow in the sense their is a lot of (well written) dialogue, in terms of the actual plot I think things getting going a bit quicker then In the Sky.

That's good to hear.

It feels weird, I'm kind of swimming in JRPG goodness at the moment. This next month, I received Etrian Mystery Dungeon as a gift at Christmas and I just got Xenoblade X. Then there is EO Untold 2 in February, with Legend of Legacy. I guess this is the situation the US was in a few months ago as well.

Gosh, these character portraits can get so bad. All I could think during
Bleublanc
appearance was "What the hell happened to his face?"

What's the best use for Machias? Debuffer?

Jusis seems like a solid warrior/mage hybrid.

I thought Machias is a tanking character? He has high physical and magic defense, I also use him for Earth spells.

Jusis has very high magic attack so he's my magic caster for air and water.

I think it's very slow in some senses. 15 hours in, in chapter 2 (spent a lot of time talking to people) and the vast majority of the time has been spent introducing characters and, increasingly, the world. No major plot movement yet.

Mind you, I really like that the game takes the time to really let the characters get to know each other just as the player does. But I'm a sucker for slow openers in well written games. Then I'm way more invested when things pick up.

That's probably due to the master Quartz you have on him. Plus using him as a tank is kind of awkward since I've yet to use the skill Taunt, so there's no way to have enemies target him.

Final chapter spoiler:

IIIIII SWEAARRRRRR

Man, I was not expecting them to use the vocal version of that. Man that's some callback to FC/SC.

Beat Chapter 1 last night. Not a fan of the school setting at all but at least the music is quite good. Playing this just after SC feels weird.

I don't understand the orbment lines in this one. Unlike TiTS it seems you don't need to place orbs in line to combine sepiths total? Seems like each orb come with its own spell instead. I suppose something is unlocked later on because it makes no sense why characters have different lines configuration with this setting.

Walking around the second town made me realize they could use Xenosaga ep. III dialogue system now that they went with full 3D. It definitely would enhance the experience.

Where can I buy bait?

You can trade for it at the pawn shop, but you have to use the U-Materials which I tend to use to upgrade weapons.

You also just find quite a few.

By the way, I'm a bit confused why fishing even has a lose condition, it seems almost impossible not to catch every time. Maybe it gets harder later on?

Someone clearly hasn't done the golden fish quest yet

Ugh, dammit. That sucks. I just used my U-Materials on weapon, too. Fffffuuuuu-

At least early game, I think U-Materials for weapon upgrading weapons is probably the better bet. A number of different fishing spots, they refresh each month, you find bait in other places, and 5 U materials is a lot in the first couple of chapters.

Finished the game just now.

Oh my fucking god
THAT ENDING JESUS FUCK AAAAGH I can see how that's worse than FC's cliffhanger immediately. It was also awesome as fuck but oh my god seriously.

Also, this soundtrack had some fucking STUNNERS in it that put FC/SC to shame. Jesus fucking christ this OST got so god damned good when it hit its high notes.

Made it through the Prologue last night! That was a really satisfying way to begin the game and a nice intro to most of the characters. I am already digging the vibe and the way that things are happening. So far, I like the combat MUCH better than Trails in the Sky (mostly in terms of speed and snappiness of things happening) and in an RPG that is multiple ten's of hours long, that is a pretty big deal.

OST in the second game is even better, imo. Something to look forward to.

Yeah, I know. I 'missed' a few tracks when listening to the Cold Steel track before it came out here because I went straight to ones I liked hearing, but the game made me realize just how great some of the other tracks were.

You don't have to tell me some of the second game's tracks are even better, because I know that already. I've probably listened to the CSII soundtrack hundreds of times, focusing specifically on some of the best ones.

I've listened to way too much music from JDK whether I played the game or not. Whether it be the Cold Steel II, Trails of Azure, Trails in the Sky SC, Sora no Kiseki Zanmai, the Perfect Collection Sorcerian series, Ys IV: Dawn of Ys, Oath in Felghana, Zwei 2, Vantage Master Portable, that Perfect Collection Dragon Slayer CD with Ryo Yonemitsu, Ys Seven, or even god damned Provincialism Ys.

I hear you. I really like it when they time a song perfectly at the right parts in the game. Like, when
Rean calls Valimar
. Gets your blood pumping.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
All of these Crossbell references taunt me. What's happening across the border? Everyone's speaking a language I'm much less fluent in, that's what's happening.

And yeah, the OST in this game is amazing. Even the field tracks are great. Pretty much everything on the aesthetic front has been improved from Sky, from character art to music to overall presentation. The orbal artes look absolutely beautiful, especially Golden Sphere. The only thing I miss are the 2D portraits.

I'm partial to Ancient Glyph, myself. I absolutely love the whole 'summon a giant fucking rock covered in green techy lines' and the air burst in front of it just before it slams down onto the target.

I'm very partial to Seraphim Ring, but that may be due to an incredibly epic moment that happened regarding it on one of my streams- and the start of a running gag on my channel. lol

Cold Steel last battle spoilers:
When I was at the last boss, it absorbed Rean. I was frantically trying to do enough damage to get it to drop him before it killed him, but it put Laura to sleep and I stupidly used Elliot's S-Craft to try and do the damage (spoiler: didn't work). Laura and Emma were both dead, leaving Elliot as the only one standing.

Somehow, he managed to dodge 7 attacks in a row, despite having an EVA of 10, giving him a 10% chance to dodge. Rean dies and is returned to the field... When I got to his turn again, I swapped him out for Alisa and started casting Seraphim Ring. She got hit and killed, and Angel kicked in and immediately revived her with full HP. I got her started on casting again with two enemy turns. The first hit nearly kills her (on a critical) --and the second attack misses- allowing her to cast Seraphim Ring and revive the whole party.

At that point, my friend started shouting 'KEANU REEEEEVES KEANUUUU REEEEEEVESS' in the background on my mic. Now any epic (or better yet, completely improbable) dodge in any game on my channel is called a 'Keanu Reeeeeeeeves.'

Also, according to this Japanese poll here, it's Silver Thorn followed by Aerial for some reason and then Dark Matter, as far as numbering arts.

You realize that isn't technically the last boss?

But yeah, that fight was hard as hell

It was hard, yeah. That being said, hell yeah using up all the revive/give you your CP back items like Zeram things at the end of a game is the best. I love it when that pays off.

I used up a lot of them on the
C fight the chapter before
so that made it harder. I also don't think I went into the fight with many characters able to readily perform a 200 S-break

God, ya'll are fast. I know I'm late to the party, but I'm still in chapter 1. I'm taking my time; I want this to last a while, since ToCSII is probably a good distance away.
