The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel delayed to Spring 2023

Disappointing, but in the end it's probably better for me. Starfield comes at the end of the year and I will be playing that for quite a while. When BotW2 releases I will have plenty of free time to play it.

ARM CPUs are common very weak (in comparison with console gaming CPU), not to mention there is an optimization to play a role here. Average framerate don't tell much a tale about optimization at all. I remember Digital Foundry saying this on their DF Direct, about PS3 CPU > Xbox 360 CPU > Nintendo Switch CPU.

Nintendo Switch star is the GPU indeed, not more powerful than PS4, but probably caring all the others game in the back.
The Wii U CPU is also very weak comparatively, so I'm not sure you have a point here.

And the Switch GPU is also very weak. I mean, for a portable it was pretty good at release, but still only about on Xbox 360 level.

Switch cpu is better for IPC (instructions per clock) and flops because the Wii U CPU is effectively a 1997 design with extra cores and overclocked to hell :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Switch CPU is better for developers to easily utilize but it does have less cache so a few things might be harder on switch esp. since Wii U memory was lower latency as well. I hear that Mario kart 8 split screen runs worse on switch vs. wii U. Wonderful 101 runs worse on switch, ditto pikmin.

Breath of the wild runs a little bit smoother but not hugely, and it's 900p on switch vs. 720p Wii U and that's literally it. Anyone that played it on Wii U can say they didn't miss out on anything. I played and finished the game on Wii U no problem.

Again, flops don't tell a tale. I really recommend watching old Digital Foundry discussion about those regard.

Nintendo Switch CPU is weak, Nintendo Switch GPU is caring. Thats my point. Switch more powerful than Wii U? Yes. Better CPU, again I can't say for sure. NS games, besides first party studio, have some real dips here and there.

Wow. A game from 2017 that was delayed 76 times is now getting delayed 5 years after release? Damn Nintendo takes forever with Zelda.

Thank god, I was already trying to figure out how to prioritize when to play the shit coming out later this year. This solves some of it.

The original Wii U Zelda demo looked stunning too. It was realtime and you could move the camera around. I get that it was an indoors demo compared to the open world BOTW but the difference is generational.
the demo didn't have gameplay.

I hope they are doing this to just make it better and not because they are having development issues.

I honestly think it needs to be quite different from BotW overall. A sequel that plays exactly the same is going to be a big disappointment. I didn't have any issue with the breaking weapons (this honestly just reminds me of games like Halo where you need to be constantly picking up new weapons you find because you run out of ammo) or lack of traditional dungeons, but I do think it makes sense to get rid of the weapon breakage and bring back the traditional dungeons. Finding a massive dungeon buried in some nondescript cave would have been amazing.

I don't mind the delays. I will mind if the game is a let down though. Also I would like a better Switch system so we can play at a decent resolution and frame rate. Probably not getting any of that though. Ah well.

Probably will release with the next Nintendo hardware. This makes sense.

I am also just barely over halfway through with BoTW. I know some people can put 40 hours in a weekend, but it takes me years to secure that much gaming time. So I am happy about this.

It does for cpu. Matters for physics calculations and clipping.

For gpu as well, but I get what you're thinking. But 100 gigaflops of nvidia 2022 gpu still isn't going to match 1TF of 2015 gpu even if it's less efficient.

That does sound fun actually... Been a while since I fired up BotW but you just convinced me.

Can I also convince you to seek help?

"I can't wait to fight the enemy, so I can fight the enemy, so I can fight the enemy, so I can fight the enemy, so I can fight the enemy."

BoTW:

"I can't wait to fight the same enemy, the same enemy, the same enemy, the same enemy and then elemental versions of the main villain!"

I don't mind, I'm already getting Xenoblade 3 this year and as much as I'm excited for BotW 2, XC3 is the game I'm most hyped about for my Switch for this year.

Can I also convince you to seek help?

Why would I need help? I'm just looking for some Korok seeds and might try to tackle a few things I missed. I'll use a guide if I really need to but I should be fine without. Thanks for looking out though, you must be a true BotW fan!

BoTW:

"I can't wait to fight the same enemy, the same enemy, the same enemy, the same enemy and then elemental versions of the main villain!"
Uncreative peasant:

"I could stealth, or be offensive, I could smack a rock into them, or attack from mid air, or create environmental hazards, or maybe the weather helps me out. So many abilities and possibilities at my disposal... what should I do? Ah, got it. I just slash them with a melee weapon till dead. Done."

"I can't wait to fight the enemy, so I can fight the enemy, so I can fight the enemy, so I can fight the enemy, so I can fight the enemy."

Told ya the moment Xenoblade 3 was announced for Fall 2022.

It's for the best. BOTW2 vs Elden Ring for GOTY would have been the final nail in the coffin for human civilization, the total meltdown of the internet. Nintendo going to win the Nobel Price for Peace in 2022, and the GOTY in 2023. They know their stuff.

btw. didn't Nintendo mention, that they want to release Zelda games more regularly now by branching them out?
For moments like this, I could see them having a few games up their sleeve that could release at any time...

I think either a port of WWHD and TPHD is likely, or a remake of the seasons games by Grezzo.

This is the first time ive seen this take, but it makes a lot of sense. I always thought Switch was more powerful despite the difference in tflops because it was on a new generation of GPU.

But I have always wondered why the game was downgraded from the initial reveal despite it releasing on new hardware that was supposedly more powerful.

there must be something wrong somewhere, lighting look great but those shoots dont do it justice.

lol How does it take 6 years to make a direct sequel? It is not even a complete reboot like BOTW. IIRC, they mentioned how they would be reusing the same map as BOTW in addition to adding new areas.

So why has it taken a year longer than Horizon which itself took a 5 fucking years?

What is going on with these studios?

P.S Dont want to toot my own horn, but I brought this up in the Initiative thread. This is not a Microsoft problem. EVERYONE is struggling to put AAA games out. It's almost like they forgot to scale up from last gen.

Guerilla made no other game since the first Horizon

Since they released Zelda BOTW in 2017, Nintendo EPD with their 900 staff has released Animal crossing, Metroid Dread, two Mario games, Ring Fit adventures, Warioware, Nintendo Labo etc and are at work on releases for Splatoon 3, Mario Strikers and Switch Sports for 2022.

Hardly the same situation at all.
While BOTW2 sequel work started in 2017, it's likely the devs have had to do this in parallel with other games.

I think everyone needs to learn from FromSoft and Insomniac because they are literally the only productive studios left in the business.

Even Naughty Dog which released 5 games from 2011 to 2020 has been completely MIA since.
FromSoft are working on one / two games.

Nintendo are working on tens of titles.

Yep. It's going to be a busy end of year and first half of next year, assuming no more delays. Starfield, then Stalker 2 and then Botw2. And I'm sure there is a ton more, but these are the three I'm most excited about.
