Whenever the game ask you to do something different, diversifies a little bit the gameplay
be it escort, tadpoles, stealth or Silent realm
people complain not because it sometimes plays like crap but only because it is in the game.
I got a good game for you, it's called FF13.

people can't figure out how to spoiler tag their shit. I really didn't need to know about
Penguins, Escort missions, quiver upgrades, and plenty more things in the past few pages.

I also think I'm the only one who thought the Escort mission and the Tears of Light quest in TP were a fun change of pace so I doubt these 'fetch quests' will bother me.

I mean, are we having to make aggressive swipes here for it to register (ala shitty TP)
We must've been playing different games. TP was fairly easy it was just waggle waggle waggle with your wrists. There was no need to make aggressive swipes to make it register for me.

Guys, cheer me up please.

Because of Skyrim I only played until the entrance of the second temple. I tried to stay spoiler free for Skyward and was really happy with the art design, graphic style and music.
But I got some real huge gameplay problems, especially after playing Skyrim. So yeah, do those things get better?

-I can´t skip dialogues, which pisses me off the most. The story telling is funny and fresh but the sidequests and minigames ... I did the bambus minigame about 30 times and everytime I failed he told my sword isn´t long enough. Even if you press "A" it takes so long until you can try again.
-Did 3 sidequests. After finding the girl it took me about 20 mins to find the house of the mother to get my reward. The other 2 were the birdy thing and soup. Quite boring ...
-The world feels so ... FF XIII like. You can´t explore, at all. Theres only way to go. Don´t recall it ever being SO restricted in a Zelda game.
-First dungeon felt "meh" :x . This isn´t a big downpoint for me, because it was the first tutorial temple after all.

So yeah ... hope it gets better and only started a bit slow.

Well the dungeons get a lot better. A lot, lot better.

Your other complaints are pretty much my complaints, and I'm at dungeon 5.

I think I'm going to have to try the game on Wii to see if it's any better than on Dolphin. The controls are not terribly responsive, and I lose calibration quite often.

Often times I'll hold the Wiimote in front of me, and the game thinks I'm holding it sideways. It's aggravating.

Have you checked your PM yet?

Well there isn't only one way to go. Yeah if you play the main story you're right but if you want to find every secret and every hidden area...there will be many ways to go. I already found enough areas I couldn't reach at first.
Plus: There are many small "Islands" to find, minigames, sidequests, hidden objects...

Stupid question: how does diving work?^^

edit: I LOVE the shortcut-system. It reminds me of Dark Souls. Really great.

So far the biggest surprise of the game is that the ball balancing during the second dungeon doesn't work like I was expecting it to.

I guess you could say they dropped the ball on that one.

fetch quests? 2nd dungeon design lacking?

I think the issue is not the game but the fact that you have no patients (wow you have to collect 5 measily items within a small section of a dungeon it's so arduous)...you expect to just walkthrough dungeon to dungeon with no effort and thought process as if it's some generic shooter game with a big sign that says "FOLLOW"...

Exploring is part of a Zelda game...collecting things is part of Zelda game...solving puzzles is part of a Zelda game.

If you don't like these things what in the world are you doing playing a Zelda game?

Off...never play with it on...
I've played every Zelda game ever made. So, please, enough with this garbage. I love the puzzles in Zelda games, but the puzzles in the first two dungeons have been terrible. Practically everyone agrees on that, and it will most likely get better from here.

However, I'm not going to just sit here and accept it, just because it's a Zelda game. It's not unfair to say that the beginning of the game is sub-par, and that it really shouldn't take 3-4 hours before the game gets good. Some of you need to relax with your defense of the game.

Not sure how I feel about the overworld yet. The pre-dungeon areas and dungeons themselves are good, but I miss having a big, flowing overworld.

I hated sailing in WW because everything felt detached and the same is true here. Flying around to tiny islands isn't as satisfying as exploring a big field etc.

I'm 15 hours in and just came out of the first dungeon
a second time
and I'm starting to really enjoy it now. The silent realm sounded horrible but I actually enjoyed it surprisingly.

Take this:

I played every Zelda game and I love all the puzzles in SS.

I'm not worried about the Silent Realm, it sounds like I'll enjoy the atmosphere and I suppose I'm one of the few who enjoyed the tears collection in Twilight Princess just because of the atmosphere. In fact that stuff was some of my favorite parts of that game.

Aw shucks, my copy is still on Not Yet Shipped. Could have sworn I put in my pre-order for the LE pretty soon after it went up. Hoping I can get it before Thanksgiving at least.

Wow....I hadn't realized till now it came out on sunday.

Now regretting my Amazon preorder of the special edition mightily.

I would cancel but I have nightmares of going to target only to find that they have no special editions.

Well, since after the first dungeon seems to be when everyone else is posting impressions, it's my turn now.

First of all: "Wheeeeee!" Flying is fun. Need to practice a bit, but I think this could get really good. That opening race? Aced it with basic dogfighting skill learned from other games. I do hope I get to fight on the bird at some point. Or a chase.

The game looks pretty nice, and yeah, it's half Wind Waker, half Twilight Princess, but it works fine. It has the usual minor things you find in a Wii game, and maybe it's Xenoblade talking, but it could probably look a bit better. Can't fault the framerate, though.

I like the sword controls, I still need to learn to be a bit more accurate, but it works pretty well. I suspect they just lifted Swordplay from Wii Sports Resort, but that is not a bad thing. Plus, you hae to admre Nintendo's confidence in the system when you consider the first boss.
No item needed, no gimmick, just a swordfight against a very overconfident opponent.
It took a while to figure him out, and I did something I haven't needed to in a Zelda boss fight in a long, long time: Used a healing potion. Since I had a... Skultula incident earlier in the dungeon, I actually had to empty both my bottles in the first dungeon. You know it's good when you end the boss fight at two hearts left and no healing potions.

Also, a question, I came across a fairy. Tried using an empty bottle at it like in all the other 3D Zelda games. I'm fairly sure I hit it, but I didn't collect it. Do I need to Bug Net for fairies in Skyward Sword?

The first boss had a fun opening. It took me a while to realize that yes, you DID get the thing you needed to beat that in the dungeon:
Knowledge on how to confuse an opponent that follows your sword. Think of the eyes, then think of the boss. If you wave the sword in a circle, he'll stop following it for a second. Attack!

What happens if you give the 'paper' to
the person in the toilet
? Unless I'm forgetting something this is the first time a Zelda game has actually let you choose how you deal with a situation, even though it's extremely minor.

No, you just need to target the fairy first.

How's Wal-mart with putting games out at midnight? I live in a small town and want to snag it at 12 but I'm not sure if it would be worth the effort. Do they usually put the big releases/ Nintendo releases out at 12?

It's boring upto and including the first dunegoen. Everything after has been fantastic so far. I've just finished the third one.

The controls are excellant. I really can't see why anyone is complaining.

So they finally nerfed fairies? Good, they were overpowered in the previous games. There was no reason to carry red potion in those when you could carry "full heal if I die" fairies instead.

In general I think they really improved the potion/fairy stuff. You can upgrade potions to make them more powerful with the right ingredients. Upgrading a red potion twice gives you two full heals in a single bottle.

4th dungeon boss is AWESOME.

To me Skyward Sword is by far the most enjoyable Zelda to play. Even fetch quests don't annoy me as much as they did in previous games. The controls feels just right in this game. Love riding the bird, love the combat, love the swimming, love the itens (they are much better used this time around)... my only complaint is when I get to the boss key parts. Why do I have to keep holding A to move the piece? Makes no sense. Just let me move the thing around freely please.

Also, Fi kinda sucks. No personality, no charm... I like when she's dancing though.

And why do the game takes me to the item screen almost everytime I get a material? This is so stupid. It's baffling this made into the game.

Soundtrack is a little disappointing too, so far.

Overall, this might be my favorite Zelda by the end. We'll see.

I'm pretty sure Twilight Princess did the same thing. Though dying in TP takes some effort.

It's definitely annoying. It isn't every time, though, it's the first time you get a particular material in a particular area. That is at least much better than getting it every single time, especially if you are in an area with tons of slimes that drop that slime goo constantly.

I don't think it'll be on shelves by 12, but they probably have it in the store even now so I would just ask and they'll grab it from a box or something. This is just from personal experience, though.

Oh wow, BY FAR the fastest way to earn money is
by farming Volcanic Ladybugs near the water spring on the Volcano Summit, where you need to get the water for the entrance to the Fire Sanctuary.
Just enter this area and directly to the right are 0 - 4 Ladybugs, catch them and re-enter the area. Rinse and repeat.
You can get over 20 Ladybugs per minute and sell them to Stricht for a fortune!

You, my friend, are probably the dumbest man I've ever seen using the spoiler tag. The dumbest.
