The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword |OT| Home of Punkin' Chunkin' Champion 2011

I just hooked it all up to my parents' Wii. Looks exactly the same and theirs is practically out of the box new. It's either my component cables...or the game actually looks like this and no one is noticing? I find that hard to believe though.

Will snap photos shortly.

Like I said, the same thing happened with WW and TP (it was more noticeable on certain backdrops) on certain setups.

Mine's the same.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, the HELL were they smoking when they designed all the characters in this game? I busted out laughing more than once. Zelda always has weird NPCs, but SS seems even nuttier in that regard.

I LOVE the fortune teller. His face makes me lol soooo much and I love the Kikiwi things. They are sooo cute. Their leader is a ball sack though.

The
Stalfos x 3 fight in Skyview Revisited
is pretty much harder than anything in previous 3D Zeldas.

It's pretty easy actually.

In fact, most of the fights are pretty easy using shield parry since many enemies telegraphed their attacks in such obvious ways.

The fortune teller's music might be my favourite music in the game. I'm not sure why.

Also we need a gif of the guy who sells shields and stuff's face when you decline to buy something

Skiesofwonder

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
Finished the first dungeon, and sadly done for awhile. :(

Loved the boss battle! Having some problems with swinging the sword because I'm left handed. I had the same problem with Red Steel 2 and I can't use the analog in my right hand to walk around at all. Feels so weird lol, so I'm sticking with Analog in left, wiimote in right. Like Red Steel 2, it will take done time to get use too, but once I get the hang of things I'll be sword swiping with the best of them!

Unfortunately I have work out of town tomorrow and Tuesday, so my next play session won't be until Tuesday night. :( I imagine I will be very Anxious during work, but when I'm driving home Tuesday night, knowing I have the rest of the week to celebrate Thanksgiving and play Skyward Sword....... That is going to be one hell of a feeling!

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Is this Ghirahim fucker for real? This cosplaying twilight drag disaster is the villain for this game? Oh no.
Would you rather have an overused pig with next to zero personality as a villain?

Yeah, the fortune teller got me too. There's a guy in the sky where you cut bamboo that has an extremely small face for his head, and the guy that sells arrows/bombs/shield/etc. is also especially weird.

OH MOTHERFUCKER

So on the minigame with the freaky clown guy I'd hit all five rings and was on target for the 50 rupee square.

Then I missed the fucking platform

That gif I mentioned needing would be perfect here

So am I right in assuming there is absolutely no game over penalty? Not only are all the puzzles/etc. you solved still completed, but so are the defeated enemies. Even more absurd, it seems enemy HP actually persists as well - I hit a Skulltula once, then died, then came back and it took just one hit to kill him

That fight almost made up for what so far has been the games only crap dungeon.
No, I'm talking about the part with all the
minecarts
.

Sandship
was great though! I can totally see why some people doesn't like it, but I thought it was very unique.

I like the bamboo cutter for some reason. He's fat but the way he carries himself makes it seen as if he's confident he could smack your shit in a second. I was also a bit blown away when I realized the item storage manager is his daughter. Then I saw the resemblance.

I really feel for the guy who mixes the potions though.

Also the stuff with Zelda with really, really, really good. Opening was fine, mostly because of her.

Yeah I agree. It's an interesting difference from other games. In many previous games Zelda is this damsel in distress that you don't really know, but in this one the writers do a great job of creating this girl that has known Link for a long time and clearly has a bit of a crush on him.

The bamboo guy is totally middle age link if he let himself go.

Easily the best Zelda. You can tell that Link and her are friends and they both fancy each other a bit. It's so nice getting a Zelda that we get to know rather than her just being the princess that needs saving who is barely related to the plot. The next best Zelda is from WW. Can't say I really liked or cared about any of the other Zeldas.

Just beat the first dungeon. The boss was surprisingly hard. Maybe I was missing something (Fi was not much of a help here) but it was a tough slog. Clearly I had to not show my expected movements but I couldn't get a feel for what I was doing successful when I did get a hit in.

When it comes to Rupees, Skyward Sword is like the opposite to Twilight Princess. Loads of shit to buy, not even close to as many annoying chests in dungeons containing five rupees, and a large wallet (the Extra Wallet Beedle sells is the greatest addition so far). I haven't maxed out once so far.

Got the game yesterday. Just finished the first official dungeon (I believe) and started up what APPEARS to be the "Majora's Mask Sub Story" part of the game
The Monster-wants-to-be-human

So far, I'm impressed -- it's far better than I was expecting, and I was expecting it to be good. I do think it took a while for the GAME to start (with a lot of story coming first), but that might be because I had to explore/chat/etc. with EVERYONE every time I had the chance. Heh.

The controls are really impressing me -- the WM+ stuff just WORKS. I don't have to think about it...I realized that I only have to recalibrate to do menu/pointer stuff, and that the sword simply works.

Good game, so far!

just a couple hours in and the game finally got going. lots of really dumb handholding quests. a really slow start. oh, and i think the controls are weirdly off, especially with the pointer controls the way they are.

but it's the first console zelda in five years and it sure feels like one. looking forward to it picking up in the coming days as i try and dodge spoilers from coworkers and people on gaf.

Okay, I have no clue what I'm doing at
Eldin Volcano. I've just gotten to the first bridge of spinal column pieces, and there are boulders on the other side and I have no bomb bag and I can't find anything in the area

If I remember correctly, you have to roll the bomb across the bridge and hit the boulder on the other side

Are you a fan of
bowling
?

EDIT: Beaten!

Anyways.

Just curious, what methods have people found for maximizing damage on the first boss fight?

Before he summons his weapon... seems like all you can do is wave your sword around until he stops following it with his hand then swing from the opposite direction. Any way to get a spin attack in here? Also I forgot to try doing a combination of swings after one hit connects here... do they work?

After he summons his weapon...
- shield bash his charge attack, while he's stunned you can get in 1-2 spin attacks
- slash your sword in the appropriate direction to reflect all of his projectiles back and damage him
- when he teleports behind, a successful swing (has to be in the correct direction, or he'll counter you) stuns him and you can do 1-2 spin attacks while he recovers

It'll be amazing if subsequent fights have this much depth in them.

Just how good was that scene? Personally, I absolutely adored link's facial reaction to the whole thing. Outstanding is all I can say.

It's fantastic. It reminded me of a similar scene in Ocarina of Time... however, I feel this game's version has a lot more impact. No fancy explosion, no fancy slow-mo, no fancy anything..... just pure, unfiltered emotions from the characters involved. It's very great.

Damn, seems like everyone is creaming their pants the last few pages over this game, but I must admit it is getting better. What I learned is to never press down on the D pad, I don't want Fi to give me hints, things are easy enough as they are.

Is this game giving anyone else shoulder problems? no game has gotten my shoulder stiff like this, I hope it dose not wear it out completely. Am I alone?
