Picked up copies of muchi muchi pork + pink sweets and ketsui for the 360 today. Can't wait for them to show up. That only leaves me needing espgaluda 2 to complete the 360 collection.

So, you have a Japanese 360? Then you're not even limited to just those shmups.

You cab owners intimidate me.

it's a lot more manageable than you'd think. I don't really know much about electrical nor electronical work, but I found a buncha sources that have been coaching me through voltage reading and adjusting the +5v.

the buttons and stick are all crimped with connectors that easily slide off the button/stick terminals which hasn't required any soldering..

the hardest part is actually finding the cab. I think I didn't really luck out with the quality of mine... it's dust city in the chassis with scrapes and dings all over it and an old ass jamma wiring setup. next step will be to read up on how to rewire a new harness in there. but regardless, it's still playable and awesome in it's current state.

Yeah if you can find a working one it's essentially plug and play...it's just that the stakes are a lot higher if something does go wrong with it.

I want to change the harness in mine too cause the edge connector is a bit of a pain to plug in and pull off of boards, and the D button wire appears to be cut for some reason. But it's otherwise working totally fine so I don't really want to mess with it. I only have one or two games that use D, and the kick harness works fine for my console adapter.

I don't even think learning how to wire it would be that difficult, just tedious...
after watching some beginner videos and reading guides it looks like it's basically just a jamma harness rewired throughout the entire cabinet to connect to the different sections.

If I had a fresh (undinged/damaged) egret II and it broke down, I definitely wouldn't experiment and mess with it like I am with the NAC.

----
but anyway, been practicing Progear again. getting to stage 5 with three score-based extends, and sometimes getting the item-based extend. still a bit tricky to get. The Chicago shmupsmeet is supposedly in August, so I'm gonna work on looping it by then.

A lot of you really like Guwange, right? I'm considering getting it, but I just wanted to make sure...

It is mostly the price and size that I find intimidating. I'm moving too much internationally to even want to pick up another console, so a cab would be impossible. It would only be realistic many years from now.

Not sure about everyone really liking it exactly, but the game is fine. Assuming you're talking about the 360 version, for $10 you might as well try it (although might have some screen issues for 3:4?). For the PCB I haven't kept up with prices but it's been generally high relative to most others. I don't think it's worth it but I'm not one of those people obsessed with it or a collector.

Price is all over the place depending on source, but yeah if your living situation isn't static it's not the most convenient thing to have.

I finally picked up DoDonPachi Saidaioujou last week. I don't know why I couldn't find it in any stores...

Anyway, the amount of otaku pandering is a bit too much, and the voices (especially that of the final boss in 360 mode that made my roommate yell out that he was about to come in and break my xbox) are quite bothersome, honestly. The general style, compared to Espgaluda II, just really isn't my thing. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet... Maybe if I play with voices off, I'll like it more.

Not actually that important
Anybody who modded their iCades in here? I wonder how easy that is and if any soldering is required, I've never even modded my arcade sticks!

So it looks like the new Cave Shooting Collection is sold out at Nin-Nin. Dang, I wish I had jumped on a couple of days ago when there were still preorders open. :(

Does anyone know where I can still preorder it? It looks like Eurotaku still has some copies. Are they trustworthy/reliable?

Have been playing Deathsmiles 1 and 2 on a 4:3 480p display using a component cable.

Setting the game up for 4:3 is a PITA, zooming and centering the display with the in game options etc (game loads in 16:9 mode).

If I used a VGA cable instead, would the games default to a pure 4:3 480p mode when loaded?

Are all Cave 360 ports like this?

Not all Cave games are alike. I remember having to fuss with the display options in MMP/Pink Sweets on my 4:3 VGA CRT too.

Hell, Guwange didn't even support 4:3 until a patch.

VGA would be optimal, yes; the 360 would then be able to natively output a 640x480 signal, which it will not do over component.

Finally put in my order for the Cave Shooting Collection Kan. Figured it was worth it, because I'm missing like 6 of the games in the set, and want to get the first print DLC (have you seen how much Pink Sweets/Muchi Muchi Pork with the DLC goes for?) Considering how much all that shit would cost on its own, this somehow comes across as being a bargain.

Either that, or I've really gone off the deep end.

Finally picked this up! Great price too, well at least I think it's a good price?

Anyone know anything about the different display options when using a CRT or a regular HD TV? What display options mimic arcade settings the most?

On a rotated 4:3 display at 640x480 setting the overscan scale to between 93-94% makes the shorter dimension a near 2:1, and setting the scaling method to Nearest Neighbor from there gives you the sharpest possible image to take advantage of that. Because the arcade didn't use an aspect ratio with square pixels, you can't lock to both dimensions, but it's harder to notice the visual artifacts created by the rescaling on the longer dimension. We ran the 360 version of the game this way in a Naomi universal cab at MAGFest with a scanline generator and it looked fantastic.

Good you went with Tenso. Shit is mad cheap that way. Easiest route to order for sure.

I'd considered buying it from NCS, until I found out they were charging $400. Maybe they could've gotten away with that if we still had 2011's conversion rates, but now? Puhleeeze.

It's like the late '90s up in this piece.

Mr. Postman came to the door today and was like "sup dude" and I was like "sup." "I got a box." "Yeah?" "Yeah."

Already 1CCed the Mushi games. Thinking I might go with Deathsmiles, as I've never really played it. Don't want to get my ass beat by SDOJ quite yet.

I'll post more pics later today, when I have a chance.

Looks like the Kan set is sold out on Amazon Japan now. Guess I feel even more justified in nabbing it right away. Let's celebrate with a few more pics!

QKsyYvG.jpg

The only difference I noticed with Kan is that there's a third case, which contains Dodonpachi Saidaioujou.

Z7nvZwn.jpg

They didn't graft the Saidaioujou manual into the other book they already had -- it's just the manual from the standalone release. There's also a message which, translated, says: "You must be a fucking badass for buying this sweet shit."

Actually, it just says "thanks for supporting us." No, thank you, Cave.

This is what the discs look like:

LG9UDfS.jpg

Same as last time, I'm guessing. But it looks amazing in person.

Guwange is still a download code, but at least it's for the Japanese version with the way cooler looking logo. I'm happy about that. I haven't had a chance to check out the DLC install disc, but I'm pretty sure it's identical to the prior release. I'll report back.

For now, though... I'm going to hook up my Japanese 360 and check some of this stuff out. I haven't actually had a chance to play most of the titles in this set, so I feel like a kid on Christmas.

If anyone wants me to take more pictures or give some details on other stuff, let me know.

Thanks for the pics, looks mighty fine. I kind of wanted to jump on this one, but I don't use Tenso anymore, and the other forwarding service never replied to my registration email, so I never set up my account in time.

About the DLC, I keep seeing some suspicious looking customer support messages getting bandied about on the Japanese internets, but haven't really made any sense of them.

This page has some scary looking test at the top, but machine translation gives me nothing.

Thanks man! Cool pics. I cancelled my order last week since I got a car last month and the first payment is due this week! Ugh. Bullet Soul just for me (and Mario Kart and Tomodachi, of course). Plus I've got the OG box back in cali. And all the original releases, lol, Hot shit, though, ridiculous value.

As an aside: you can set your NA console to japan and get the cooler Guwange logo!

Sorry to keep bumping the thread, but that box is a Cave overload, and I haven't been this giddy about a new game in a while.

Gave Deathsmiles a shot. I see why people say it's easy. I got to the final boss's last form on my first try. Died with him down to about 1/4 of his life. Oh well. Game's freakin' sweet, though. Can't believe I never really played it until now.

I want that collection so bad for the dlc disc, superplay dvds, and to keep everything in one box. so clean looking.

Not sure if it's acceptable to post this here, but I thought it was a bit specific for the Buy/Sell/Trade thread.

The scales having recently fallen away revealing the world of Cave shooters, I ordered Ketsui for the PS3 on EBay. After ordering, I discovered that the game is available on PSN. For some reason, I just assumed it wasn't on the store. Since I much prefer digital versions, I immediately bought that version. Now I have a spare (used but in perfect condition) physical copy that I'd like to get rid of. If possible I'd like to trade for another Cave game. I'm looking specifically for the PS2 games - DoDonPachi DaiOuJou, Espgaluda, or Mushihimesama. Probably a long shot but if anyone is interested in doing a 1-for-1 trade for any of those games, hit me up.
I am located in Korea, but willing to do business internationally.

Are you streaming from your game center? :) I wish I could play my shmups on a real cabinet, but I have no room for it.

Streaming seems fun, and might increase shmup exposure. How do you stream off a console anyways? Do you need some sort of external hardware?

On previous gen consoles (and older) you need external hardware. PS4 and X1 support streaming right off the box. You also need an internet connection with good upload bandwidth, or you'll be forced to stream at very low quality.

Just got Espgaluda 1 and 2 in the mail. I actually played the first at an arcade and thought it was awesome. Wrote the name of the game down because I knew I wouldn't remember it, then lost that as well. Luckily the "Games You Remember, Names You Don't" thread helped me figure out the game and I finally got around to importing it. I know nothing about Espgaluda II but I figured I might as well buy that as well :p

Ignore Kururin Squash. I didn't feel like taking another picture.

Looks like you got an LE copy of Espgaluda II (unless the cover art is mismatched with the disc). Hope you have a Japanese 360 to play that on, it's the only version of the game that isn't region free.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. I wanted the CD that came with the LE. Who even prints separate discs for an LE and regular version? Especially only locking the region of one?

Welp. I'm mad. My own fault, though. I should have looked into it more.

Not to rub salt in your wounds, but the first print standard edition also comes with the soundtrack CD.

Dying. Dying inside. But I blame eBay sellers for not mentioning that in their listings. This was the only one who had actual pictures and stuff of the discs and everything. It's fine. I'm fine. I'll just find a cheap standard/platinum hits version next month. I didn't pay much for this copy anyway.
