The N-Word Controversy: Comedian Tim Allen Questions Why He Can't Say N*****

You can say it, you're not free from consequences of using that word though. That goes for pretty much anyone, seeing as not all black people will use the word.

Double standards suck. Women call each other "bitch" all the time, but if a man says it, there's hell to pay. Black people kill each other every day, but if a Hispanic guy in Florida does it, there's outrage. The US government is constantly doing shady shit to control other countries and even its own citizens through intimidation, violence, or fear. But if someone else does it in this country or another, they are terrorists.

As a white dude with lots of black friends, I've been "given permission" to use the word "nigger" around them because, I was told, "You're one of us." I turned it around on them and said, "How about I treat you like white people then and forbid you all from saying it?" To which nobody would ever agree.

If your black friends want to say it, let them. Who the fuck are you to act like you know better. White people love scolding and wagging their fingers at blacks and other minorities on how to act "properly" and what is/isn't permissible, from music to language. I don't care if you have 1 black friend or 100. You're an OUTSIDER and obviously have no greater insight into their culture and customs and should quietly fuck off rather than dictating your holier-than-thou bullshit at something you don't understand.

What cause would that be?!

Black person pisses you off you call them a nigger?

Like it was put before, No one uses the word Nigger. White people stuck in the past still use that word and yes, it would piss of a black person. it someone called him that. Black people don't call each other nigger, they say the word nigga.

"Nigger is a black person with a slave chain around his neck
Nigga is a black person with a gold chain around his neck"

-Tupac

No.

Sorry to disappoint.

I only say it in response to it being said to me.

If they have a problem with that, oh well.
So if you don't say it what do you say when black people say it to you?

What are you even talking about?!

If you have good cause to say then fucking say it!
Plenty of racist use the word nigger and we are discussing it's usage by white people and their weird desire to say it free of consequence.

Just remembered I was called a Nigger just last week.

Was walking down 7th avenue and this old white guy (looked like a veteran but I'm not sure) looked me straight in the eye and said "The world needs more niggers!" and walked off. I didn't know WHAT to feel.

In Webster’s old dictionary the word “n-----” means unemployed and indigent dock worker. That’s one definition. So I said, (to my brother) in that case … he lives in Boston and he’s not employed … so you’d be a nigger.

How do you censor the word then say it the next sentence?

Maybe he was gay. Are you attractive?

Wizard please.

Gah. Flashing back to when people thought using "ninja" was cute and non-obvious.

maybe you misunderstood him. Did he truly stress the "R". Maybe he was pressing you to be "that nigga".

Bullshit. At least in the UK
I know this has already been addressed but as you replied to me I feel obligated to point out how utterly stupid it is to presume to label my experiences "bullshit" as a black person living in America based off of however the hell things are in the UK.

Clearly, I wasn't talking about the United Kingdom.

I was referring to the term of endearment.

Fuck out of here with that shit. It is not a term of endearment if you are not black.

I know a lot of people desperately want to be able to use it because black people say it and it is so unfair that no one else can but boo fucking hoo.

Here is a quote from another board explaining why black people don't like other races using the word.

Nope. Don't like when CK said it. And, he borrowed the idea from Chris Rock.
Stepped to a comic after an amateur night once about it. right in his face. Shook him! LOL!
Just like i said about the cracker and n-word in the Zimmerman debates i had: it's only allowed by the persons directly connected through friendship, dating or family. Nobody that isn't black should say it, ever. Notice Eminem never says it. He gets it. He knows. People CAN own words like intellectual property. My homey calls his lady "Cupcake". So, for as long as I know her, I can never call her Cupcake, EVER! Those two own that word! I call her Kathy, period, end of story! Same goes for the N-word, or any other word own by two friends, lovers or family members. Extra credit ass people get checked to the jaw, no different that if i call my boy's wife "Cupcake". The shit aint allowed. And, fuck Louis CK for that sneaky shit.

To me nigger and nigga are the same thing if said by someone who isn't black. I don't use nigga and I really don't like that other black people use it as a term of endearment but it means a very different thing coming out of a person's mouth who isn't black.

Go back to the Jungle 2 Jungle, Tim.

So Louis C.K. CAN say the word because he just happens to be a currently popular/active comedian and not a comedian from the 90's? I love your logic!

I see the difference being that Louis C.K. didn't try to legitimately have a debate over whether he or other white people can say "nigger.' It was a bit that played on the taboo nature of the word and the fact that cranky conservatives like to ask about why they can't say it.

Anyway Louis C.K is overrated, I don't get GAF's obsession with the guy, let's not waste any more time on him... Give him two more years and he'll be opening up at strip malls in Kentucky for comedians half his age...there I said it, lets move on.

I have a Haitian co-worker: And when I say Haitian, I mean Haitian... A man who has been in the country for no longer than 8 months, he's here with a work visa and he is like pure Caribbean islander, accent, wardrobe, mannerism and everything...sometimes we go to the bar after work, we hang out here and there, not best of friends, but he is a quiet guy and talks to me most of the time and not to too many other people at work...

Anyway when the conversation turns to comedy and we are cracking jokes, he'll sometimes laugh and call me "ma'nigga!" After the third time he called me that, it only seemed natural for me to call him that back in a similar circumstance... Like when he did something nice, or said something funny, "my nigga'" almost slipped out of my tongue, it just, I felt too comfortable to say it to him.. But then I realized that is some dangerous ground to walk on... So yeah, long story short, I had to compose myself better hanging around him and not get too comfortable to use that kinda language.

.....that's just confusing...

And AVClub asked them if they would like to be treated like white people. And Yay they felt the Privilege.

Once again, this sound awfully like how the words "faggot" or "gay" are often used. For a forum that has such a significant LBGT population, frequent discussions about gay rights and homophobia, and makes strides to make it as welcoming as possible to the LBGT community, it's hard for me to understand why so many here so readily push racial discussions to the side, defend racism, or act like it's no big deal.

Noegaf is liberal on every other issue. To the communities credit though, I think vocal minority who usually won't take part in other political discussions just feel compelled to speak on racism because 'they're tired of hearing about it'

Fuck out of here with the taking out of context. It is not useful because I stop reading after that.

There is no context where it would be okay for you to call a black person a nigger or nigga if you aren't black.

Term of endearment or not, you shouldn't be calling black people that at all.
