Interesting to see the BBC now in discussions to broadcast England home test matches after Sky's deal runs out in 2020. If this happens, I really hope they are in it for the long haul and not just for a couple of years like their commitment to F1.

Would be fantastic. Though I think the BBC cant really be blamed over F1 - they clearly wanted to keep it just didn't have the financial clout to do so.

So the Cricket Australia XI, a team made up of those that couldn't get in their state teams and the NSW surplus, ended the day at 0/376 against the Kiwis. Finch 214* and Carters 156*. Southee only bowled 3 as well.

Even though it's only one round of games, it is the only ones before the first test and a few people may have dropped in the standing and others have stood up.

Going up:
  • Corporal Klinger 200* - Probably don't want 2 old blokes but at 35 hasn't given up.
  • Hastings - A miserly 4 for putting Pattinson and Siddle in the shade.
  • Carters - The Long term Rogers replacement.
  • Agar (105) - Probably going to be a better batting prospect in the long run.
  • Cowan - Outsider but you never know.
  • Some random Queenslander who's never done anything before.

Going Down
  • Yet More Marsh failure.
  • Khawaja and Burns - Didn't stand up.
  • Maddinson - Doesn't have the head for it.
  • Bancroft - Did well in the One-dayers, but needs to show it when it counts in the shield.
  • Pattinson - Not the bowler pre-injury. :(

Carters and Finch are now past 500 for the first wicket. Highest first-class 1st wicket partnership in Australia and about 50-60 runs away from the highest of all time. Pushing into the top ten for any wicket now too.

Edit: And of course I jinxed it, Carters out 1/503.

CAXI declared at 1/503 and NZ supposedly immediately declared twice and are taking their bat and ball and going home.

The game was a warm up game, guess they felt their was nothing to achieve after getting smashed about. Awful way to start the tour :p

Pakistan is pakistaning it really hard right now.

All it would take is for misbah to be stranded at 99* to be peak pakistan.

Well that was shit. What was Yasir thinking playing that shot off the final ball of the over?

Gonna be interesting to see how England fare on this pitch, given that it's already turning quite a bit. Bit of reverse for Wahab wouldn't go amiss either. 350 for England will make it extremely tough to win the series.

As always, thank fuck for Misbah.

Misbah is so good. I love how he does nothing for ages then suddenly hits a six.

Our seamers have done brilliantly in the UAE again. Superb work.

I think they're going to bury moeen if they keep playing him as opener. A test opener is a specialist role, not something you give to your all rounder who does a bulk of the bowling and isn't an opener in first class.

This is what anyone with any sense should recognise. He was too low in the Ashes, but opening isn't his thing - lacking in technique and temperament for that role. He's being fucked over for sure.

Also the bowling burden isn't the same on spinners as it is for pacers but fuck having to bat immediately after toiling for 10+ overs in the Dubai heat.

I see David Warner has started his routine pre-series banter already, this time singling out McCullum.

Seriously warner, shut the fuck up.

A petulant, immature twat.

Go NZ.

Every time Pakistan look like batting England completely out of the game someone throws their wicket away. It's already a decent sized lead but the way this series has gone we could see all sorts of crazy happen in the fourth innings.

Nah, that was fair enough. Not to say warner isn't a petulant, immature twat because he is, but Baz's ridiculously holier-than-thou reaction to the stokes-smith incident is so heavy-handed he comes across as such a bloody sook.

This is going to get out of hand. Ussie is looking comfortable and the Kiwi's have taken 2 wickets in the last 800 or so runs scored on them. They really need to work out what to do when the ball isn't talking.

Yeah, been following on abc grandstand, and while it's nice to see Australia in a good position it just seems like a dreadfully boring match so far.

I've been increasingly concerned about how flat our pitches have become. Though from what I've heard NZ's bowling leaves much to be desired also.

NZ were looking a lot better this morning but then Southee went off and the spinners came on and all the pressure they built went away. Even Bracewell who looked like a complete plodder yesterday upped his game.

Beautiful ball that got Smith though.

The clouds come across and all of a sudden the Mitchs stop looking second rate.

Also Channel 9 are launching a HD simulcast of the main channel, on channel 90, in time for the 3rd test, h.264 and I assume 1080p. Bitrate might be an issue though.

Channel nine channels all look awful. Go is watching a JPEG. I think they've siphoned their bandwidth off for those terrible shopping channels.

So yeah, I wouldn't be confident. And mainland capitals only I assume?

There is also a "lifestyle' channel launching at the same time taking up even more of their strict bandwidth allocation. MPEG-4 will at least lower the requirements, but I have no doubt they will skimp on it and fast moving scenes will macroblock terribly. Watch them pan over a crowd now on GEM, Mate or OneHD, it's shocking.

As for where, not sure. I'm officially regional in Canberra and the WIN network is pretty half-arsed, they sometimes a while to catch up.

Looks like Burns and Khawaja are confirmed for a period now, way to take your chances. Feel sorry for Bancroft, he's probably on the outer for a while now, he really needed a score in either the CA XI game in Canberra or the first round in the Shield but missed out. Now to look for a medium term replacement for Voges and work out what the hell to do with the no. 6 position.

Still be much better than the current mpeg2 stream though.

Yeah it's a complete trashing.

With southee gone and boult bowling absolute rubbish I'm not too sure if this series will be all that interesting other than the fun of watching a thrashing by australia.
