The Nostalgia Critic |OT| He Remembers It So You Don't Have To

so Doug is up to the last couple episodes of Korra, with one more to go, and it seems he's really liking them

I thought they were pretty bad, myself.

the giant exposition dump ticked me off, and using
zuko's
voice actor seemed like a shortcut. we aren't actually going to take the time to make this person a real character, so here's a voice you know to make you care, since he's going to be in like half of the last two episodes.

I'm sure he'll dislike Endgame.

Lindsay's Twilight parody "Awoken" is now the second best selling YA Urban Fantasy book on Amazon.

Looks like the experiment was a success.

It was a real thing they were doing? Now I feel I should watch the videos.

In his house at R’lyeh, great Cthulhu lies dreaming... of her.

What would you do if you discovered you were the only one in the world with the hidden power to keep it from being utterly annihilated?

What if you had no idea what that power might even be?

Andromeda Slate, the self-proclaimed most ordinary girl in America, can’t figure out why the gorgeous but mysterious new boy at high school seems to hate her so much. It couldn't have anything to do with the strange dream she had the night before he first showed up in class, could it? The dream where the very same boy rescued her from a giant, green, tentacled sea monster?

And it couldn’t have anything to do with that time she read aloud from that ancient tome of eldritch magic, the Necronomicon... could it?

Andi Slate never imagined she’d find herself in a situation where somehow she was the key to saving the world.

Her life is about to get a whole lot less ordinary.

Wait, she was making that?

Also her video about YA and Immortal Instruments paints an interesting video. Apparently while the book is mediocre, it was also self-referential and not uber serious which the movie tried to do. It's like how Hermione was featured in the HP7p1 ad (resembles Bella Swan's "helpless" look) despite not looking like that at all in the book.

Hermione stopped being the book character from the 3rd film on, which was a shame.

Good review. Glad he gave credit to Iroh. Though, Rifftrax often had much better jokes for scenes.

Nickelodeon, when will you every learn? You make such great series, then pass the movie rights on to such terrible directors.

Firs, Avatar goes to M. Night Shaymalan, then Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles goes to Micheal Bay's understudy.

i agree with the notion that avatar couldn't have been done justice on film. it was appropriately made as a tv show. yeah, the pacing could have been better, but what we got was pretty fantastic. if you were to make a movie, it would have to have been an animated film based off the show. they could have done one about wan, the first avatar, or maybe aang's continuing adventures similar to the fullmetal alchemist films.

and seeing as the legend of korra came out and was successful, i don't think we have to worry about the film being the last word on the series.

nickelodeon does make baffling decisions though- there's no doubt about that.

Has Linkara already finished the Power Rangers thing?

do you know how much time goes into each video, what he has to do to prepare? just in case you weren't aware, he has to sit down, watch each episode once, allow at least six hours for sleep and eating, and then write notes upon rewatching each episode. then he has to sit down, type up his notes in a thoughtful, coherent manner. each history of power rangers episode takes, minimum, three weeks to sit down, write, proofread, edit, memorize, and rehearse. then he has to sit down, and record the episode, and upload it to atop the fourth wall and thatguywiththeglasses.

Figured I'd throw my $0.02 about the new style. I like it a lot. It's great seeing something different, and I think he's finally found a way to merge both the Nostalgia Critic and Demo Reel into one fantastic project.

The skits work much better in the context of the Nostalgia Critic than they do in Demo Reel. The critical angle gives them some focus and purpose rather than being something that feels like it was only added because the premise requires it.

Why is the Nostalgia Critic criticizing things that have come out within the past year?

And I thought this dude was finished with what he was doing?

it's all explained in his cerebral masterpiece, 'the review must go on'

basically:
-people weren't visiting the site much anymore so it came back
-shows are every two weeks now (and longer)
-no time restriction on material

the lost in translation one was my favorite. the idea that this awful filmmaker was unwittingly living better film parodies than the ones he was creating was a lot more interesting than just creating a stage for really really bad jokes.

Yay! More chick is good.

What's taking Suede to review Pokemon Movie 4 though? I want them to review up to Lucario.

I wonder if she's going to do any more on videos on the 90s cinematic adaptations of nostalgic properties. She kinda talks about the phenomenon generally and touches on a few other examples in the two Addams Family videos, but I think there'd be room to explore some like Flintstones, The Brady Bunch Movie or George of the Jungle more in depth.

Ahaha. If the 2nd episode Trouble in Lumpy Space Vlog is any indication he is any indication he is going to be off the deep end when we get to the REALLY weird stuff.

I was a major detractor/hater of NC for a long time, but damn, that Shining mini series review was just so hilarious and well done. The Son of the Mask review was great too. These new reviews are definitely in a class of their own, hope anyone who had previously written off his stuff like I did will check them out.

His joke delivery has gotten way better lately, especially over the last year or two. Heck, his on-camera persona in general has improved. Granted that's largely because he's been doing NC for so long now that he clearly feels a lot more natural in front of the camera, but still.

Going back and watching some of his early Critic stuff is slightly painful now, there's a lot more "I'm sure that sounded funny on paper" jokes compared to now.

I was surprised to see him talk about those comics. I remember getting the full edition from Nintendo Power a long time ago as a kid (also includes one of the Mario & Wario comics). I barely see any listings for it on eBay & such, so I wonder if it's considered rare.

Cool to see another commercial compilation. I'll have to watch it once I'm done with a college exam.

omg that ending

OH HI MARK

also dammit Canada

you and your disturbing commercials

What the fuck? Are these PSAs all done by the same agency?
"Happy baby shower good times for HAVE THIS RAPE WHISTLE BECAUSE GIRLS GET RAPED!"
"I'm going to be a head chef and about to get married THIRD DEGREE BURNS BECAUSE NOBODY CLEANED A SPILL!"

I thought Canada was a positive nation.
