The Nostalgia Critic |OT| He Remembers It So You Don't Have To

Next week's review is up for Vessel subscribers. It's
Cats & Dogs

Beth Elderkin of Shark Jumping also confirmed she's taking part in a crossover review for
Phantom of the Opera. I'm not sure which version, possibly the Gerard Butler one considering his multiple jokes about it in the past

Definitely
Butler version, it's more well known and easy to rip into, although I have to admit that watching the Loose Canon of the Phantom by the Nostalgia Chick made me shocked with the adaptation where he haunts a mall and is introduced after taking Christine by fucking lifting weights.

Oh god, I remember when that movie was new. I could've sworn it got a sequel, but maybe it was straight to DVD.

.........NOPE, the sequel came out NINE years later in 2010 and actually was in theaters....in 3D.

cats and dogs is anti cat propaganda!
enjoyed the movie when I last watched it

also man, I don't remember Spawn looking this shit CGI wise, the again didn't watch it in over a decade...

I really liked his stuff. Him and SFDebris are really good sci-fi reviewers. Any idea why he just stopped making videos?

No idea. Looking over his Twitter, he's uploading old videos to YouTube (since Blip died and all) and likely dealing with the same red tape everyone else is.
Also, he had a cameo in the newest Alvin and the Chipmunks movie so it's possible he's pursuing a career in acting (and this was as a background extra).

I imagine he's still in a good relationship with CA as they still follow him on Twitter.

I know he did Labyrinth recently because of Bowie's death, but with him doing Phantom of the Opera next week, right after Lindsay did Phantom on her Loose Cannon show, I can't help but wonder if he's trying to one-up her.

Yeesh, self-indulgent video. At least it provided criticism of the movie. Which was an issue with the Fury Road and Hocus Pocus reviews (not enough criticism)

Next week's editorial should hopefully be better. Something called "How Right Are Trailers?" and the thumbnail has Spider-Man in Civil War and one of the new Ghostbusters. Probably something about hype or proper trailer structure.

Oh, one of these? Cant wait to watch it, thats were Doug is often the best, even while the critic part are smaller.

Sounds like I might just skip this one. I wish we got more clipless reviews more among the lines of Pixels & Jurassic World.

Ah didn't know she has Patreon. What's her YT btw?

I wonder why Doug made a review of similar topic with very little gap, and this one being a bit more self-indulgent.

According to the Channel Awesome forum, the idea was Beth Elderkin's not Doug's. She wanted to do a musical review like the Moulin Rouge video and she felt Phantom of the Opera would work. Doug agreed to it.

Also, the realization that the Moulin Rouge video was 5 years ago. Holy fuck...

I generally don't mind his clipless reviews, but this Phantom one was flat-out confusing. I've never seen the movie, so I wasn't even sure what they were talking/singing about half the time.

It's a pretty faithful adaptation of the stage musical. The biggest criticism most have for the film isn't that Joel Schumaker did it, it's that Gerard Butler was cast as Erik (the Phantom). Guy can't sing.

Lindsay's video had a brief comparison of the stage singers and Butler.

Mostly on-the-nose references to what the songs that they were parodying were about tied in with the reviews plot. The review did get me thinking on that horse scene. Why DID the phantom have a horse in the sewers whose sole purpose was to walk a few feet?

Here's the youtube link for her Phantom video.

It's less a review and more a look at the Phantom character. She breaks it into two parts, before the musical, and after the musical.

Thanks. At least she seems to be back on making vids again.

Still wished she would continue with Shorts.

Ah who's Beth?

My thoughts as well. His clipless reviews work for me if its a movie I've seen or have a really good idea what's it about. They outright don't work when its for movie's I have no idea about like Phantom of the Opera or Pixels. I get bored and jokes go over my head.

I wish he could keep doing reviews with clips since he still has channel awesome which I'm sure is a good source of revenue even if the views are fewer.

Next week's review is
Pluto Nash.

April is suppose to be having a crossover with
Ben The Sage from Anime Abandon
as well, though no word on what the review will be on.

Hopefully it's better than the
Guyver
review. The
star chaser
review however was good with the two of them.
