Evolve is a mixed bag. Some episodes are great, others are not so much. My favorite was the Judau episode.
Still worth experiencing them once. If only for the novelty.

But I like other ladies, too. Mirai Yashima and Frau Bow (I mean come on, that time when Frau Bow goes to pilot the Gundam herself and just straight up RUINS Amuro for being such a bitch.), Emma Sheen. I liked Ensign Rekkua until her character committed sudoku. Haman Khan, Roux Louka, Mineva Zabi's turned out nice. Rain Mikimura. Fuck Allenby Beardsley, though. Lady Une (NOT SALLY PO) and Noin are okay. Soma Pires was one of the best things about 00, and LOL at women being in Gundam AGE.
Best Gundam lady is Kihel Heim, but I guess you just haven't seen Turn-A yet.
Save Turn A until you finish F9, Victory and X, in my opinion. Turn A is better that way. In a way I view Turn A as the ending of the franchise, at least in regards to the 1979-1999 era. Seed was sort of a rebirth for the franchise
Isn't there some really awful "official" ending to Gundam, though? Like G-Saviour or something?
What's that again?
I don't know of this.... G-Saviour.
Right guys?
That's right.
*Heads back to the world where G-Saviour doesn't exist*
I miss Brazil almost as much as my wallet would miss the funds it would take to visit. I would kill a man dead for some Churrasco, Pao de Queijo, bowl of Acai and a nice, tall Guarana.
So I finished Unicorn and it wasn't bad. Now I know its time to move on to F91, but before that, I was wondering: Is Gundam Evolve worth checking out? I mean there's an episode devoted to Roux and Judau there.
You haven't finished Gundam Unicorn because the final episode hasn't even been released!
I had a moment where i had to immediately stop and make sure I din't miss anything.
Also to anyone who does the whole gunpla thing are Gundam markers really that special or can I just make do with a sharpie pen?

I am not sure who would even use them or who they are good for.
G-Saviour is hardly canonical, and while it's not the worst movie ever (it's actually somewhat decent by SyFy channel movie standards), it's not the Live Action Gundam movie we deserve. Technically it's set in like UC 0250 or something, but the only references to UC it makes is the fact they call the space colonies Sides occasionally. There is hardly any mecha action (or mecha in general, for that matter). The factions are pretty stupid. The acting ranges from bad (Jack Halle, the main character's rival) to decent (Cynthia Graves, who is played by Enuka Okuma who also voiced the role of Lady Une in the english dub of Gundam Wing). Apparently Assrun's voice actor is also in the movie, but in a bit part.
Turn-A, on the otherhand, is Yoshiyuki Tomino's final series in the franchise (at this point). Yeah,, he worked A New Translation, but that was just a (clumsy) compilation movie. There is a definite sense of him saying "This is all I have left to say" throughout Turn A.
What nothing for sfirras or coxinhas?
Anyways, don't know about Gundam Evolve, but I think you're going to enjoy F91.

Sfirras are okay but Habibs charges too much for them. Coxinhas and Pasteis, though, man, I'd forgotten those. You are not doing anything to alleviate the saudades in my belly.
Banagher was kind of annoying in episodes 4 and half of five, but he was kind of cool in 6. I liked him in 1-3 alot as well.
As for Riddhe, I actually like him quite a bit. It's funny how butthurt he's been the past few episodes, ever since the rejection. But yeah, the heart of the show is Zinnerman and Marida for me. Also, as someone who actually enjoyed ZZ, I love that they brought back the Nahel Argama (and even the doctor from Zeta/ZZ makes a few appearances!)
All part of my evil plan hohohoo. Also, pffft Habibs is awful man. Somebody needs to take you to a real sfirra place one day.
All this UC talk has inspired me to actually try and watch some of the old series or finish them. I'm going to watch the original Gundam movies and then go from there. Not watching the Z movies because apparently they're horrible?
I recommend production order over chronological order, personally. Also, as a rule watch the subbed first. I'm not a subbed purist by any means, but most Gundam show dubs are pretty bad. The only ones I particularly like are First Gundam(tv series, not the movies)/Char's Counterattack and Unicorn's.
Speaking of that spoiler, has Bandai or Sunrise ever commented on the possible connection between her and the person Judau finds in his Evolve?Riddhe is just super butthurt. He's like Glemy minus the ambition, I guess. And I dunno, Banagher just doesn't seem to have anything to set him apart from Amuro, Kamille and Judau. He's just sorta like condensed Gundam Protagonist in a can, needing something to make him stand out.
But Marida is the best thing. I can't decide if itsor if she's really great on her own.because she's a Puru and therefore playing with my ZZ heart strings
I watched the original Gundam series and it was okay. I also watched the Zeta series and was pretty let down by it. In retrospect, I think the English dub played a large role in my not giving a flip about the latter. It was okay in MSG but in Zeta it was pretty bad.
So I'd recommend Japanese with subtitles. Also, you have to go full tilt and watch War in the Pocket, 8th MS Team and Stardust Memory between MSG and Zeta. War in the Pocket is one of the best things to ever come out of the franchise, and Stardust Memory is one of the worst. 8th MS is meh but there's a cool Gouf fight.
I'm watching the movies subbed, even if the dub is good. I'm just watching it as I find them. Zeta I'll probably watch subbed too. I love G's dub, I'm probably alone in that but I always found it amazing because it just seems to fit the show's over the top tone. Anyways, I already watched most of Unicorn and F91, read crossbone. I guess I saw the end now I'm going back to the beginning. I'll probably watch most of the shows subbed.
I kind of like Mark Gatha's Domon. Not a good performance by any means, but it felt fitting

Banagher is significantly different from any other UC protagonist. He actually stands out the most from the other three as he doesn't fall down the "kill in order to survive" trap. Amuro, Kamille and Judau all accept that they have to kill and that people need to die, there is no way around it. Unlike all of them Banagher still don't come to terms with that idea or accepted it. No this is not unique or new to Gundam since SEED ran that shit into the ground since it came out but it's entirely brand new to UC setting. And I dunno, Banagher just doesn't seem to have anything to set him apart from Amuro, Kamille and Judau. He's just sorta like condensed Gundam Protagonist in a can, needing something to make him stand out.

I'm pretty sure that they're not the same person, becauseMs. Marida has memories of a pretty horrible childhood and physical evidence of abuse, like burn scars and one very vague comment that makes it sound like her reproductive system was horribly damaged, too.
And I don't think that Judau would allowa Puru to leave his care once he saved her.
The novel talks into details about that. Heart-breaking stuff:
After Glemy is killed during ZZ's final battle, the Puru girls completely freak out and start to get killed one after another. Puru 12 gets shot down and drifts away until she reaches a shitty colony nearby. After being retrieved by some guy, she's sold to a brothel where she's forced to be a prostitute and gets raped by all kind of guys. And before you ask, yes, she was the same age as the Puru 1&2.
After a while she gets pregnant, but the lady that manages the brothel make her abort the child. This is actually the "light" Marida says she has lost (in episode 3 I think), because she thought this pregnancy was some kind of hope for her, as an artificial being. She goes into complete withdrawal after the abortion.
The error that the brothel lady made is that she took her to a corrupt Zeon military doctor. Thanks to medical records or something (it's been a while since I read this TBH!) Neo-Zeon realized who was that girl who had an abortion and sent people to retrieve her. The guy who came to save her was Zinnerman. At that point she was totally broken and she thought he was a client, so she started latching at him, but that's when you get that little scene from the episode 3 flashback, where Zinnerman take her hands and say "It's okay, you don't have to do this anymore".
Just remembering and writing about it... Fuuuuuuck T_T
SHIIIIIIIITTTTTT.... Never read the novel, so thanks a lot for that Jubern. Pretty dark shiet, even by Tomino's standards.
Learnt something awful today about a character in the UC series.
The upbeat and happy go lucky Puru 1 in ZZ is how I'll always remember her. Marida reminds me of the serious as fuck, all business, Puru 2.
It was meant to mirror the Lalah story, actually. Apparently Char rescued her from a brothel in India.

(Spoilers from Gundam Unicorn volume 4, more or less covered in OVA episode 3)

The whole flashback is seen by Banagher when he "resonates" with Marida in episode 3. Present day Marida comments the situation for him.

Freaking heartbreaking stuff, man.Puru 1 was such an upbeat girl that it was easy for the audience to forgive her even after she tried to kill Leina. Seeing a Puru suffer like that is just sad stuff, and really kinda helps bolster Glemy's villain cred.
That said, how old would Ms. Marida be during Unicorn, then? She looks like she's in her twenties, but Judau can't be that much older, can he?
Do the math, mate. Roughly 5 years between ZZ and Unicorn.
Yeah but I'm bad at anime ages. Are Judau and Roux 15 or 17 or 19? Only the upper end makes a lot of sense for me in terms of the two just eloping for Jupiter, but a 19 year old Gundam protagonist who isn't Domon Kasshu? Pleeeeez.
Check my edited spoilered post above. It depends. Judau could easily look more youthful thanAlso, who's gonna stop him lol, he's been living that independent life since both him and his sister were kids.Marida due to her horrible upbringing and rapid aging brought about by her traumatic childhood
On a related note. Domon is just 19? WTF? How did I not realize this? They way both he and Rain are drawn, they both look like grown ass adults in their 20s!
ZZ ends in early 0089, over 7 years before Unicorn starts in 0096, and Marida is 18. Makes her past even more sickening.
When ZZ started, Judau was 14 and Roux was 16. They definitely look older than they are, especially Judau during the Earth arc, dude is buff as fuck. They would be 22 and 24 around the time Unicorn happens,.and they're probably fucking each other's brains out around Jupiter
Let's be honest, Judau and Roux probably broke up. They're both too spunky and hyper for their own good.

The only reason that Roux isn't with Judauis because she stayed home with the grandkids that day.in Crossbone
Or she's dead.
I don't know who Roux is
You need to fix that right this fucking instant.
Except it will be 100 episodes of UC before you can.
In time friend, all in due time.
It took me from last November until now to get all the way through Unicorn, haha. But then, I watched War in the Pocket, 8th MS and Stardust Memory on the way.
I refuse to believe this is true. Or they broke up and got back together again like, the next week. Girl went to Jupiter with him. Takes some serious commitment there.
