Alright L4D story time GAF.
3 friends and I ventured through Death Toll on expert the other night. It was quite a fight getting to the finale level, but we made it. We entered the house by the water and started to prepare for the inevitable horde attack before much needed rescue arrived. We signal rescue and make our way to the dock to set up defensive positions. 2 gas cans on each side of the approach, Francis and Zoey defending the immediate dock pathway with auto-shotguns. Myself and Louis guarding the upper steps with M4's. A series of horrible screams echo in the distance, they're coming.
Wave after wave of infected stream towards our position, but we're dug in well and up to the task. Hundreds of rounds rip through infected bodies, the only thing louder than their shrieks is the constant thunder of gunfire. A smoker appears in the hills to the left, I quickly inform him of the surgeon general's warning via M4. The revolting boomer appears and makes a dash up the middle but is stopped long before he has a chance to get close and wreak havoc. Finally the frequency of gunfire begins to dwindle, the rush is over. Only a few moments later, the familiar rumble of earth is felt by each survivor, a tank approaches. Louis equips a molotov cocktail and ignites the tank with ease, he's done this before. We lead the tank around the house by the water, frantically firing on him as he burns with every passing second. He finally falls at our feet.
We venture into the house again grabbing much needed ammo and more home made explosives. The silence of the radio finally breaks, rescue has arrived. With our salvation in sight, and so close, we make our way back to the dock. Francis is taken down by a hunter and surrounded by infected. Zoey throws a pipe bomb to attract the infected away, I place a few rounds in the hunters head, Francis rejoins us. As the group moves forward, a boomer reveals himself from behind a nearby tree but Louis panics and shoots him, causing the horde to come down on all of us with a renewed fury. Nearly blinded by the boomer's bile, the situation grows more and more grim for the survivors with every moment. A smoker grabs Louis and pulls him towards the house, "This situation is fubar!" I exclaim. We can't get to him.
We limp off towards the dock, auto-shotgun and M4 fire echoes through the woods. The boat can be seen approaching the dock, it's nearly a minute away. Just as our hopes were renewed even after our loss of Louis, the earth shakes once more. Zoey screams in terror and flies through the air past me, a tank now stands where she did. Francis and I make a final dash for the dock but he becomes overwhelmed by the horde, I can't save him. I limp down the dock, the wooden pathway seems endless. I turn to shove away the wave of infected hell-bent on my death, while continuing backwards towards help I know is coming. I quickly look to see the boat, it's not even 50 ft from the dock's steps.
Continuing to push back the undead tide, horror fills my eyes. The tank has unearthed a huge mass of rock and hurls it towards me. There's nowhere to go, the boat isn't close enough and I'm far too injured to take my chances in the water. I collapse from the blow, all hope is lost. I fire my side-arm at the surrounding infected that are ripping me to shreds, light begins to fade from the world. The shore of Riverside returns to silence.
Epic fail :lol
