The Steam Winter Sale kicks off today

nah stopped using the steam sale years ago, I don't play the games anyway and all the games I really want to play did I already buy :D

Are games rotated in and out of the sale ? Like one week a game is there and the next they remove it and place something else or is everything there for the duration of the sale

i might actually buy something this time.

i just got a VR headset so there are a load of games on my wishlist now.

Jedi Fallen Order 50% off 🤞
i played it for just £15. (y)

so that's about a 72% discount :)

also, good luck getting a 50% discount :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Yeah I'm waiting to buy:

Still undecided about Greedfall. I usually don't give a shit about critics but skillup and some other dude I follow disliked the game a lot and the things they mentioned put me off. Hell even Karak's video which he liked felt like barely a recommendation. Maybe I''ll wait when its super cheap since I don't have that much cash to spend anyway.

Hoping for a sizable discount on Final Fantasy VIII Remastered (especially since I own the original) because I might double-dip for a PC version.

Also I've been kinda itching to re-play Dragon Quest Heroes and I hear the PC ports are... passable. My graphics card could probably push these better than my PS4 Pro since the PC releases could do 4K/60fps. They're also old enough now that I can hopefully swoop them up for cheap.

Similarly - I'll be keeping my eyes out for cheap copies of Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil HD. I have all the other games in the series and was thinking of plowing through them all.

I loved Valfaris.

i saw that KILL la KILL game got a patch recently. anyone know if the PC version is worth a damn yet? if it's heavily discounted that's one i might pick up.

The sale is even trickier this year because of all these services I'm subscribed to (Premier, Game Pass, Uplay) - it's sucks buying a game, and then having access to it 'for free' a few months later.

i have $90 to spent and this time, i want nothing but RPGs

GAF i need you on this one, list me the things i need to buy

It really depends on what you have and what your preferences are. If you're like me then you'll want to keep your eyes on stuff like this to see what gets a sizable discount

Octopath Traveler

Oninaki

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness and the Secret Hideout

Disco Elysium

Side note,I was really looking to buy Oninaki on switch but never got around to it. I thought I am Setsuna was decent and haven't got around to lost Sphear but I thought Oninaki looked super cool when it was announced. How was it?

My only real complaint with the game was the price - which is why I could easily recommend it to someone looking for a fun RPG if it gets a pretty substantial cut during the sale. It feels like it should have been a $30 game at most to begin with. I really liked it (I played on Switch) for what it was. The story was somewhat shallow and feel a bit flat for me personally.

Now that all the bad stuff is out of the way - the good stuff: the battle system was top notch and super enjoyable. I would often find myself shirking my "main quest" duties to go back into completed dungeons on side-quests just so I could plow through a bunch of enemies and try out new weapons and combos. Each weapon type has it's own skill tree that unlocks new and more powerful abilities as well as a few side-story elements that were typically more interesting than the game's actual story. It felt like they took all the great points of both Secret of Mana and Xenoblade Chronicles 2's weapon systems and combined them into something incredible. The more you use a particular type of weapon, the more skill points you get to allocate. Completing side quests give you "Null Stones" that let you allocate skill points in any weapon tree you want so there are additional perks to exploring outside of the game's regular story. I had a lot of fun leveling up most of my favorite weapons and having the ability to quickly switch between them for some pretty insane combos.

It's definitely different than Setsuna and Lost Sphear's turn based combat, but they totally nailed the Action RPG genre in my opinion so for that aspect alone it's easy for me to recommend, just not at full price.

A few of the games I'm already on the lookout for have been mentioned already (black mesa, valfaris) but other than that:

Saw this video a few days ago and it sold me on the game:

And because I'll be getting a flight stick in the next few weeks:

I think the above a safe bets and won't appear on things like humble choice, gamepass or origin access any time soon.

I almost bought Plague Tale and was looking at Origin access for Star Wars. Got the sub and noticed Plague Tale was on there. Totally agree, plus humble is another way to get unexpected things.

man they're goin crazy with the sales this year!! a whole 0% off, unthinkable

Oh sweet. Discount on Disco Elysium! I see it's got the same 20% off on GOG, so I may just pick it up there, though.

they are really trying to push people to epic.

meanwhile at epic. 2 weeks of free games every day.
starting off with. into the breach

Sweet, Dragon Quest XI is down to 30. Will have to snatch that up. I don't foresee that being in a humble or sub anytime soon.

Huge discounts on 502 Bad Gateways

This goofy Winter banner at the top doesn't seem to work. I can tell it should be showing some games, but nothing displays.

Got AI: The Somnium files for $13.99
I only had $15 in my Steam wallet before purchasing Disco Elysium so I had to refund it sadly. I will get it tomorrow if I get a chance to buy any wallet codes.

Let's pretend for a moment that I love most of Falcom's games, but don't care for Persona.

Will I like this game?

The controls are responsive but the combat itself is decent at best. It is more on the easy side of things if you care about difficulty and the game itself is loaded with slice of life elements + dialog. Definitely leans more towards Persona and the combat only gets fun after you've put a huge amount of time into the game.
That being said I'm more of a fan of the Ys games and Xanadu Next so this is a very colored opinion. Most of the game felt bland though by the end it did justify my purchase.
EDIT: For $3.99 it is a steal.

It's the full game + all the DLC all rolled together. It's also slightly different enemy placement from the original (if I understand correctly) as well as updated graphics and DX12 support.

More than just different placements. Some areas have extra enemies which can be quite annoying for newcomers,
