Kryptonian symbol

The suit, and by extension the symbol, would have to be alien in origin because one of the things people are forgetting is that the suit is just as indestructible as Superman.

No earthly material would be able to repel bullets, explosions and death rays without a scratch.

You could argue a case for the suit being made by STAR labs but only after Superman is established, not in the beginning.

Yeah, the "S" being a Kryptonian symbol is stretching to explain a Golden Age convention in modern times but at least he still wears colored undies and a cape.

i agree with you, but nu52 still gives an out as he starts with a t-shirt and jeans combo, and then finds white "blank" armor in braniac's ship that changes when he puts it on to match what he wants to it to look like, which ends up being his costume.

I'd buy the retcon if they'd just get rid of the serifs, which clearly make it look like a letter 's', and make it more of a shape.

Better yet, say that the 's' shape isn't even the symbol but the negative space around the 's' is.

A bit off topic, but Jack Kirby had a hard time drawing the Superman "S" on model. You know he would have ran with the alien tangent, though.

After Byrne's reboot, most of Superman's powers such as his super-strength, flight, and invulnerability fell under the blanket of "tactile telekinesis," which is a sort of telekinetic force-field. One of the benefits of this was that anything pressed up close against him (such as his costume) was as invulnerable as he was, but his cape could be shredded rather easily. Another weird side effect of this is that dirt never clung to him.

For the guys who find it lame to have an alien symbol look the same as the letter "S":

You're talking about an alien from another planet who looks absolutely identical in every way to a human male. Same coloring, same height, same voice box sound, eyebrows, two nostrils, same number of fingers and appendages, fingernails, chest hair, and apparently, the same genitals *and* the ability to mate with humans.

And you're worried about the symbol looking like the letter S?

According to the New 52 he's Impressively Human down below. Since he started using that Superflare move everyone's gotten a peek at some point and the women approve. I never got the imppression that Women thought of Superman that way (To Holsome) but since the New 52 and MOS they been on him like Hot Ryu especially when he grows a beard.

tbf new 52 made it so that lois lane's and superman's son ends up slowly dying because his human dna and his kryptonian dna started to clash against each other and cause problems
