I didn't play long, but you certainly aren't alone. There are NPCs everywhere, and they also come with you. Definitely not what I expected.
It's more like Borderlands where they have a chat window that pops up and tell you the story as you run from one puzzle to the next. They don't usually chat while your solving the puzzle.

Yup, terrible, as expected.

I generally dislike this kind or NPC talking while you play. Except maybe Starfox 64 and Portal 2. But in these games the chat is a big part of their appeal. Talos is better without it.

I have to admit, the game is growing on me. The NPCs and the chatting don't seem to bother me as much as i was expecting. It helps they all have the same generic robot face but with a real personality behind it, which is different. It also avoids all the gender/race crap this way i think. The game also has a great soundtrack, which is a breath of fresh air for me after so many muted modern games i played lately.

The traversal stutters are also less frequent in the rest of the game compared to the city area, which is good i guess but i wish Croteam just used their own engine. I mean the Serious engine and all of it's versions was always great and free of such issues. So i don't know why they changed to the crappy UE5 engine, it seems like such a huge regression to me.
