The book CLEARLY states that both Ford and Arthur are strapped into chairs during the Vogon poetry reading, NOT against some cement blocks. This shocking lack of attention to detail gives me the confidence to declare this the WORST MOVIE EVER.
Does that change the discrepancy with the book? No.ManaByte said:Except Douglas Adams wrote the movie's screenplay.

I couldn't care less about this but...quadriplegicjon said:Douglas Adams also stated that none of the different media versions of HGTTG should be compared to each other.. they are each their own entity.. considering the drastic differences between the books/tv show/radio readings.. no one should really complain about the differences in this movie.

The creator's wishes are irrelevant. All of the different entities exist in the same universe and are thus perfectly open to comparison. Just because he originated or authorized the changes doesn't make them beyond questioning.
Again, this little tidbit isn't important, but the whole excuse that people can't question the changes in the film just because Adams wrote the screenplay is just dumb.
I didn't say there wasn't a difference between questioning significant changes and being anal. All I said was that Douglas Adams' role in the screenplay does not change the simple fact that it is different.RevenantKioku said:There is a difference between questioning why changes were made and complaining because the movie is not exactly like the book.

I'm just real tired of the whole concept of the "Douglas Adams wrote it so stop questioning the creative decisions" argument.

Don't Panic.

android said:I really love the design of this movie. Very Red dwarf, Dark Crystal feel. The only way it could possible be better is if Terry Gilliam was the director. And he's back to making films with Brother Grimm in 2005 and Tideland in 2006, so it's all good.
What!!!!!!??According to Gilliam, Tideland will be out this year, too. Two Gilliam movies in one year? Pinch me, I'm dreaming.

That would be amazing.Mifune said:Well, Gilliam hopes to have it out this year. And I believe it's been confirmed to be premiering at Cannes this year. So 2005 definitely sounds reasonable.

Yeah it's a weird comedy. And you should read the book...it's really short and it's a fast read.robertsan21 said:ok i never read the book, but these pics are awsome.
i really hope this will be a new kind of space adventure film.
i heard that its more of a comedy...is that true?
demon said:Yeah it's a weird comedy. And you should read the book...it's really short and it's a fast read.
Eh, remove the comedy and it's as much of a deep-space sci-fi adventure story as any other. But with comedy. Just like 'Mom and Dad Save the World' with Jon Lovitz!robertsan21 said:ah shit, i was really looking forward to a deep space adventure film.....oh well i guess i have to read the book.
thanks
I always pictured the android as a lot smaller, like two and a half feet tall or something.
I believe you might get all three items in a package. Heres the link. Great site for the movie. Clicking the NECA highlight there takes you to the promo at NECA.golem said:oh man i hope that towel is high quality cuz i just might have to have one.
