Ummm.... It is up for debate when it is the fastest selling Nintendo console of all-time.
Nintendo just recently said that the 3DS should be selling a lot better in the west than it is.

But here's the problem: expectations are constantly being revised and still they're not being met.
Or maybe Ninty needs to get the DS success out of their heads and start putting down some basic expectations. It's like they're overanxious to get to those insane sales.

Aside from the consideration that show floor units will most likely be some sort of QA/debug units (be that by firmware alone), devs had the ability to run entirely off SD around E3 time last year. If nintendo removed that (which they might), that'd be a tad dickish in my book.
Uh... expectations for the 3DS are far from outlandish. I'd say they're more on the conservative side, even.
Better does not mean doing bad. Bill Bellchick calls out Tom Brady all the time saying he needs to play better.
Bottom line is it is too early to tell either way right now. When LM2, NSMB2, ONI Training, and Animal Crossing all come out this year along with better western support, and the 3DS is still trending similar in the Western market, then yes I agree Nintendo needs to be worried.
Fifteen to twenty minutes of 3DS. Anything below that isn't acceptable. I'm not budging on this.
You bring up a good point.
Wii would not have made a very good DVD player even if they'd enabled it, no dedicated DSP to handle AC3 / Dolby / DTS, no optical out, limited video options, and the drive was designed to be backwards compatible with the Gamecube's miniCAV discs which probably entailed certain customisations. Even homebrew which is designed to enable the drive to play DVDs doesn't quite get it working right, and I have to wonder if that is because of instruction sets that the drive was configured to understand or something - perhaps they never really planned for the possibility.
The Wii-U disc format is reported to use a variant of the China Blue High-def DVD format, so its blue-laser tech, but not necessarily blu-ray. That probably means we won't see blue ray playback, but if they got Panasonic to deliver a drive in a forward thinking way, it could have the instruction sets needed to change laser colour/attenuation, and enable reading of said discs. The U will have opitcal output via the HDMI port this time, and a DSP that could be used for processing audio and video, so it is potentially a much more capable console in this regard if they ever choose to put out an add-on or software upgrade.
I don't think they will, but it would be a nice surprise if the hardware is capable and they choose to do it someday... it doesn't personally bother me if they do or they don't. Blu-Ray players are cheap these days, and I'm betting a lot of people who care about it have PS3s. Between all the licenses that would need to be signed, its omission might end up saving us $20-40+ on a system.

It's the burden of being a publicly-held company. Every year you have to grow. Every year you have to outdo what you did the year before. Growth obsession. It's the only thing shareholders care about. It's like they're overanxious to get to those insane sales
lol, hilarious picture.
Wow... MS and Sony leaked a lot of stuff today. Smaller games, Next Gears of War...
Element of surprise chaps
This is the thing they said has concerned them and the reason why they believe sales have been lagging. At the moment there is no quality western support. Unlike Japan where Japanese support is solid and helping drive sales even more. The best selling games now for the system everywhere are from Japan. That is where games keep being announced. The lag between them coming out there and maybe making their way out of Japan is to long. No western support to fill that gap will hurt sales. This is what is suppose to be addressed come E3. There is no way the 3DS can't be a big part of the presentation.
lol, hilarious picture.
Well you know what I meant. I understand that several games get announced before the pressers, because some titles will be lost in the onslaught of announcements. Still, you'd think a game like Gears of War "4" would be held back until it's E3 showing. Well that's what I would do.Would you say leaked though?
A lot of it seems to be done on purpose.

Wouldn't be surprised if they left a lot of 3DS talk to their end of the year showings like they did last year.
lol I just noticed that gif now for some reason, not as funny as the pic!I'm slightly annoyed that the cutoff period for posting spoilers for the movie was apparently just after I created the thread. I had to go back and retrofit old video game footage into the "that's my secret" meme (that's in the first picture of this thread). :|

Looks like the WiiU Facebook page posted a pic of Reggie with the console and the controller. Can't access the FB page right now, but can someone post the image? Is he holding the revised controller with the analog sticks?
the pic is from wii u facebook page lolI guess it's all in how you count (or potentially what you are counting to in this case) but to me we have three days left until E3 really starts.

They have another countdown here: http://www.facebook.com/Nintendo/app_385608378148291I guess it's all in how you count (or potentially what you are counting to in this case) but to me we have three and less than a half days left until E3 really starts.
if it's some bullshit game then yeah but I think we're so close that they'll just save the big guns for the show.Yeah I just saw that.
So anybody actually thinking that they might scratch off at least one game on their Facebook before the actual conference?
I could potentially see them doing one on Monday to steal some thunder away from Microsoft/Sony.
And I firmly believe that those titles should be showcased during their conference. Given the visibility that E3 provides, I'd consider it a huge missed opportunity if they didn't (especially when considering the 3DS' current situation).
Once again, I'm not against the Wii U having a more significant presence. But I don't agree that it should be overshadowing the 3DS to the degree certain people seem to be suggesting.

It's a HUGE show for Nintendo. They have to totally flip perceptions, convince people to buy it at launch, and not do anything silly. Tall task.
The real question is: how much time will they dedicate to Wii and DS?

Fu**, The eletric company will cut the energy where I live around the time for the conference...
