lol what, you can miss that entire town altogether in a playthrough?
You visit the outskirts of it if you
side with Roche
at the end of Chapter 1, but never get to actually go in it and do quests in there.

Haha that is pretty crazy. The place seems pretty meaty as far as quests.

Roche and Hanselt are officious pricks. Glad I didn't go that route. :>

I seriously love this game.

Just taking in the ambiance of the surrounding world, finding every last side quest and laughing at the vulgar attitudes and dialogs of the enemy and friendly persona that crosses. I'm only 12 hours in and have just beaten the Kayran.

Jesus chapter 3...The
Operator
is he impossible? His shield seemed to be infinite... even when the animation is gone it still active and it still deals damage to me. Pretty neat way to have a
respec option
though.

No, it's possible. Hardest fight in the game, though, in my opinion.

The reward is worth it. :)

EDIT: That's very interesting @ below.
Bring on Witcher 3!!

Very end-game spoilers. Should probably not read if you haven't finished:

They show a part where the Witcher finds a ladybug. I didn't really know what that meant and looked up the ladybug's symbolism.

Apparently it stands for for a number of things, a few of which I'm sure will stand out: "A symbol of past Lives, spiritual enlightenment, death and rebirth, renewal, regeneration, fearlessness, protection, good luck, wishes being fulfilled and protection."

Asian traditions also hold to the belief that if caught and then released, the Ladybug will faithfully fly to your true love and whisper your name in his/her ear. Upon hearing the Ladybug’s message your true love will hurry his/her way to your side.

Geralt just found out where Yennefer was.

Roche is awesome though he just has anger problems. I don't know how Act II ends for Iorveth and co, but it's pretty fucking bleak with Roche. It's grimdark central with a sad outcome. Vergen sounds like a bromance flick in comparison.

Yeah if you side with Roche it ends up being pretty realistic course of events too.
The man in charge steps all over the little guy and grabs more power for him self.

I'm right at the end of Chapter 1 and I have the choice of who to side with to make...

Let me get this straight?

If I side with Iorveth there is a town that I will completely miss with a bunch of side quests that I won't be able to do?

WTF? I hate that, it makes the decision SO hard for me to make because I HATE missing stuff in games.

I'm not saying they're bad people, since there aren't really any of those in The Witcher (or rather, everyone is different levels of bad and good). But Iorveth's free-wheeling guerilla tactics and his underdog sensibility are more appealing to me. The idea of defending against a more powerful aggressor is fun.

I had Geralt call Iorveth out in conversation on the fact that he isn't much different than Roche, when all is said and done. Just two sides of the same coin.

Well I sided with Iorveth and did get that town. If you don't you apparently go somewhere else, which makes total sense story-wise.

Which difficulty are you playing at ? That fight took me over two hours of attempts before I finally defeated him with a sliver of hp remaining. Use the pillars wisely to shield against his attacks, and chuck Red Haze and pray that it works. His minions took care of him for me. Dodge like a madman away from the Gargoyles - they hit for something like 300 without armor.

Yes, basically. You'll basically be missing an enitre chunk of the game depending on the side you choose.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had difficulty with that boss.

So if you choose Iorveth you go to one place and Roche you go another? They both have their exclusive places?

That makes more sense and is okay and good, just means I have to play twice and do both paths which is fine and good by me :)

Also - could someone please tell me the names of the Witcher books please? I'm getting back into reading and I'd like to buy them.

Hard mode. I think I will come back with some better equipment. My sword would have just cut him down like butter but that shield he puts up last forever... even after the animation is gone.

Just finished chapter 2. Fuck, that was long and awesome.

The ending sequence, though, I don't even know what to say but holy shit. I'm on the Iorveth side and that was one hell of a ride.

The new environment looks great but I'm sad to know I'm nearing the end.

Anyone else unable to register the game to download the troll DLC?

I'm trying to create an account through the launcher and it always times out.

I tried registering an account through thewitcher.com and the Register link at the top of the page does absolutely nothing at all. It doesn't even work.

I bought the game through Steam, if that matters at all.

Not really. Different choices leave you different main quests & side quests.

To get all the quests you have to play the game twice.

Oh man, I've got to hand it to CDPR. These guys have thought up so many scenarios it's ridiculous.

I discovered something pretty sweet in CH3-Epilogue siding with Iorveth
My first time through when I was given the option go after Triss or remove the hex on Saskia I went to stop Saskia before she ran amock because... well, I liked Saskia more than Triss and she's a fucking dragon. Anyway, the quest to remove the hex involved escorting Philippa from the dungeon to her house where there's a chest that contains a dagger that can be used to break the bind she has on Saskia. The thing was, when I was with Iorveth he had back up if Eilhart flipped, which she did. Seeing as she had the G and Iorveth to contend with she opted to flee as soon as the opportunity arose.

Now here's where it gets cool, If you instead go after Triss you discover a broken Iorveth being prodded by some Kaedweni troops in the epilogue. They mention ransacking him between themselves before they become aware of Geralt's presence. You can choose to walk away or aid Iorveth, I took opted to take down the troops. After the battle Triss says that Iorveth is afflicted with strong form of magic. I told her to stay behind with him as I went to confront Letho.

After the conversation, I thought fuck it and decided to loot those jobers even thought I was sure they had boots or some shit like that. To my surprise one of the troops had Philipa's dagger. This tiny missable caveat explains

1. Where Iorveth was: trying to save Saskia despite your absense
2. How Eilhart got out to control the dragon during the summit: Iorveth let her out
3. How fucking awesome CDPR is because the only way you'd know the significance of the dagger is if you'd taken the other choice to retrieve it.

I had a big ass grin on my face when I saw that thing. I was almost going to leave it behind too I was damn sure that those dudes had nothing worth looking at

Man, this fucking game.

Man, this fucking game.

I'm really going to have to do another playthrough of this. I
sided with Iorveth and decided to save Saskia first time through, and knowing what you said about the Triss option, holy shit. I'll go revisit that part soon, and then choose Roche to see what happens there too.

Also before Phillipa flew away, I reloaded to try all the candle options, and the only one that works is the one that traps you, meaning that her notes only had one right answer and 2 wrong ones, which means that unless you basically were Geralt, there was no way you'd live at all, even if you did get the right combination.

Also I wonder what the significance of killing Letho will turn out to be?... At least I killed him.

Speaking of Chapter 3 (Roche),
this game has some grisly events happening towards the end. Roche cutting off Dethmold's balls and feeding it to him while he was still alive was shocking. Geralt sticking his trophy hook into the dragon's eye socket, causing it to be impaled on a tree makes me cringe to watch.

See it's that kind of attention to detail.

The most depressing part about it is without the dagger you're either forced to kill Saskia or leave her impaled on that tree. Moments later Iorveth with the means to save Saskia being looted away from him lying debilitated... *sniff*. That ending is pretty horrible compared to the alternative.

Thoraxes said:

I let him go, I did fight him for kicks but yeah, if there is a save carry over I'm using the one where he survives. He does say that he'll make sure never to see you again so he might not have that large of a role to play if any in the next game. Maybe you'll run into the other two witchers from his school and depending on Letho's fate they'll treat you differently

Holy crap old id game shout out in Chapter 2 :O
The dwarf you play for the spearhead mentions one named Blackzowitz, someone who sought a "spear of...destiny or fate or something". This is a reference to the Wolfenstien 3D quasi-sequel Spear of Destiny!

Oh and of course there was the Assassin's Creed reference in the prologue.

Also can someone tell me the easiest way to win Dice Poker. 1.5 games of ignoring it is starting to bite me in the ass ;__;

Gargoyle quest in Chapter 3 (Iorveth if it helps) is driving me nuts. How the hell do you
get to the room on the southeastern part of the castle?

What's the thing say?

I'm not trying to figure out the combination. I'm trying to figure out how to get to the room. There are no doors leading there (and I know it's there because someone posted it on a map on another forum)

Do I have to further the plot to empty out the courtyard adjacent to that area? I'm afraid of going through a point of no return and not finishing this quest.

I just normally keep my pairs if I roll any and re-roll everything else. Max bet all the time and just re-load if I lose.

Oh right,
You'll find a door that's part of the blue gate near the gargoyle area that you passed the harpies to get to (near the dice poker house). Going through the gate allows you skip by the Temerian camp. Go through the opposite door to the one you entered and you'll find another area and the chest should be nearby

Considering you beat google to giving me a proper answer, you are a saint. Thanks dude.

Also, I'm an idiot because I just realized I've been through here before.
