Asking again, htting the mark with the ballista introduces any changes in the level?

A sugestion to players using a pad. Put inventory in the back button and journal to up on the Dpad.
You have to fight the guy in the assault if you don't kill him.

Thanks for the clarification deli, it most be hard to notice because some of the guys here thought it did nothing. I'll see if i find a youtube video about it.

True, all my runs have been on hard. When i did my second playthrough not once i had fallen in combat during the prologue. Too bad people complained and forced CDProjekt to tone down the difficulty for the intro. One of the only 2 difficult parts of the entire game.

As crazy as it sounds, I have yet to really start Chapter 1. With work and the issue with the patches, I was waiting for 1.2 (Steam owner). I also spent an enormous amount of time tweaking the game and useing different INI settings etc. I basically have played the prologue at least 6 times and even though I am one of those completionist where I look in every nook and cranny, I just found an area that I never explored in the prologue..even after 6 play throughs of it.

This should not be spoiler since it is prologue, but basically in the dungeons as you sneak around, I found a locked door. Killed a few people and got a key that opened it. Once I entered I say a trap door on the ground that I never seen before and obviously never entered. So I go down and it is an area with alot of prisons etc. Earlier, I saved the guy on top of the tower (trying to be coy and not say who for spoilers). In all my previous playthroughs I ran across this guy as he was being moved from his cell into a hall way.

However this time, I was hearing his voice and someone elses through walls as I got closer it got louder and saw a crack in the wall where you can peek in. The person was being tortured and there was an opening above for me to jump up and look down on what was being done. Some of the text/options and things said with the person was a bit different.

As mentioned in the previous 6 playthroughs I never encountered this and I made the same decisions the previous 6 times. I decided to reload and do it over and approach the same way as I did the other 6 times and sure enough instead of being able to drop down I ran across this sequence as before where they are escorting him out of his prison cell.

I know I may sound like I am ranting and just going on, but I never saw this area before and I am just amazed at how much detail and different things you can do and this is just in the prologue. I had to stop playing to write this because there is so much hidden stuff that I never saw and again, I am just in the fucking prologue!

No crazy talk at all. This has to be among the best prologues of any RPG ever, if not the best. In the prologue part with the burning village under siege by Foltest's army, you can enter the mayority of the houses, each one modeled indivdually so not 2 rooms are alike from what i can see. Most have spend more than an hour the first time i was there just exploring and watching the sites and in the succesive plays i keep entering the mayority of these rooms.

Yeah, I found in one house that there was a trap door to an under-ground cellar looking thing that some items in it. Again, I played the prologue 3 times and did not notice this, but did on the 4th try.

Silly that I've already played this once without discovering this, but is there a way to mark an ingredient as being off limits? Alchemy keeps trying to use my troll tongue.

Playthrough 3 down. Think I'm going to retire this for a while.

It was a good ride, didn't play anything else for more than 3 weeks.

I settled with this ending which is ironically what I did the first time around and repeated just now unintentionally.

Let Aryan meet his end by my blade (gave him what he wanted, didn't involve his men)
Sided with Iorveth
Locked up Stennis and let Saskia decide (he somehow manages to become king anyway)
Saved Saskia in chapter 3
Let Sile live (probably the worse outcome for her, that bitch)
Let Letho live

As far as the position the North is in
Henselt and Radovid aim to divide Temeria between themselves, whether the distraction caused by the land squabbling is an impediment to the effort against Nilfgaard is unknown. Aedirn has a monarch and Saskia is able to command a force if need be which would likely include non-humans.

All in all, not too bad. They're still fucked though

mattiewheels

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Dethmold has such a great voice actor. And the battle at the start of Ch2 was really good, slowly walking in the circle while everything gets toasted was huge.

IK_Pad_RightThumb=(Gamekey=GI_Adrenaline,Value=1.000000)

Tell me if it works Subversus.

No, it doesn't work for me. What is the name of the section for gamepad custom controls?

i've been begging for over 5 years.
So I went to purchase today from Steam and it is back up to 49.99 :(

However, Amazon is selling a downloadable copy for 39.99 still. If I buy the amazon digital version will I still be able to activate it on Steam?

edit: Fuck it I just bought from Steam. I'd much rather have all my digital downloads in one tidy place.

News about patch 1.3
we would like to assure you that announcing the Xbox 360 version of the game does not mean discontinuing support for the PC version. We read your comments, we listen to your opinions and we are working hard on the patch. Among other fixes the patch 1.3 will add support for 4:3 resolutions.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

I don't think combat is the frustrating abomination some impressions have made it out to be, but I do have a few big problems with it. The three things that bother me the most are

A. Blocking and magic used a shared stamina meter.
B. Rolling and blocking have a split second delay, and sometimes seem to not work at all.
C. Auto targeting being finicky.

Why can't blocking use a separate meter, that depletes on its own? It's frustrating and I can't understand the logic behind it. It makes combat a bit tougher, maybe... but it's not like you can't just roll away and wait the half second it takes to get a new brick for your magic bar. Delays things needlessly, imo. It's a time extender instead of a challenge.

And the unresponsive defensive movement is simply a pain in the ass. Geralt sometimes won't block, I can sit there hitting the button, holding it, magic bar full, and he just stands around waiting to take a punch/sword/claw/tentacle/fireball/bomb to the face. It's like it works only half the time, to the point where I seem better off ignoring my blocking ability altogether. Dodging functions similarly, but at least when it works it gives you some distance between yourself and your opponents. You have a little bit more time to recover. Still a pain when he rolls in an unintended direction or gets hitched up and doesn't roll at all.

The auto targeting system works fine in 1 on 1 fights, but against groups it tends to fall apart. It seems like there's a way to lock your target, which causes the targeting icon to grow, but I can't seem to rely on this consistently. Geralt's aim will still break, and it's very annoying when it does. Without locking your target, he's constantly diving back and forth between big groups of monsters seemingly at random. I think he's meant to be attacking the closest enemy, but this is a game where monsters and other opponents tend to crowd around you -- I appreciate that, I'm glad it's not a 1 by 1 snooze fest like Assassin's Creed -- but it doesn't help to have a targeting system that goes for the closest enemy, when they're all the same distance away.

I've been able to deal with most difficult encounters by spamming Quen (infinitely useful once upgraded). But I'd like being able not to do that. Does melee combat get better if you take a sword path? That may be the case, but even so, I wish it was more effective at the outset. Things like not being able to hit everyone your sword touches... that's silly. Seems like a fault built into the system, one that requires the user to fix, more than it does an actual upgrade.

Lock your fps it'll help I think. I don't have any delays after I locked mine at 60. ( 30 is enough )
It is locked. It's not as much a response time thing as it is a quirk in the combat system. Or so it seems to me. It's almost like Geralt gets confused sometimes when I try to block. He'll drop what he's doing and just sit there.

I´m having a hard time trying to decide whether to buy this game on GoG or Steam. I like Steam, have almost all my PC games there, and I have no problem with the Steam client as DRM. The price difference between them is not an issue for me either.

However, I´m a bit interested in trying GoG, and I have my concerns about download size and patching on Steam. Do you still have to download all 16gb on Steam for the game, or have they solved it so you can just download the 9gb game if that´s all you want?

And I have read about Steam patches being delayed. True?

That's cool, and good news for me since I have the Steam version. Still, the GOG version is already "fixed", has no DRM and more money goes to CDProjekt. Pretty sure it works perfectly with the Steam overlay too. I'd recommend it over the Steam version at this point but if you're wedded to Steam in general then there's probably no harm waiting.

I usally am, this an exception I might be willing to make since it´s a project by a developer like CD Project. But I´m still interested in the download size of the game and the state of patches for the Steam version.

So I started it today, got to the beginning of Chapter 1.

What an amazing prologue. The castle raid with the dragon was more epic than anything in the first game, you can tell CDPR really wants to be more ambitious with this game right from the start. The graphics are gorgeous and the colors are extremely vivid. Even when you're in a dank sewer the game is still very colorful and visceral. The combat is much improved from the first game, but damn is it hard. I died trying to launch that ballista three times. I know the fighting in both Witcher games are all about mob management, but damn the enemies like to take any cheap shot they can. All I can say is thank god for Quen, I would probably still be at the first battle without it. I can see why so many people were upset at the game for not explaining the mechanics since like in the first game they shove them in the Journal section and they give you a pretty hard battle to start off with. I just learned parry, so hopefully that will help with future fights.

So far the story is really interesting the dialogue is great as usual. Although I could kind of see it coming, I'm pretty surprised
that Foltest dies so early. I worked my ass off for him the first game and he goes down in the prologue? Sheeeeeit.

Also I have a few questions about some story points in the prologue, don't spoil anything though if they reveal it later in the game.

1. I had some extra armor, mage trousers and a shirt with a black hood. Where did this come from? Witcher 1 transfer? I don't remember getting those in the original game.
2.
There was a quest in the prologue called Woe to the... Something. Anyways, I fought the commander and freed the townspeople. When I talked to them, I got some experience from the quest, but then it said quest failed. WTF, did I do something wrong?
3. I screwed up during the stealth section and fought my way out. Roche mentioned it, so I assume it had some story affect. Does your method for escaping the dungeon somehow effect the story?
4. When talking about the ballista, he mentioned how I saved Adda and she's now married to the king of Redania. For curiosity's sake, does anyone know what he says if you killed her in the first game?

Can't wait to play more!

The extra armor is from all the DLC bonuses. Patch 1.2 unlocked all the retailer specific DLC for everyone regardless where you bought the game from.

3.Dialogue change.
Comending you for not slaying the guards. The other variation is that the dungeon gets burned in some scenarios.
There are many variations for the prologue, some people talk about six. I which CDProject allowed a button so Geralt takes cover wherever i want, very minor complain really as it wouldn't have made any important difference.

4.This one dissapointed me in some sense.
By default Adda is dead, if you imported a save from Witcher 1 with her alive, Foltest tells about her marriendg the king or Redania. So it means the Adda character might not be relevant in the next game or games.

The only bad thing is you have to download everything, and it's 5 GBs.

This is a silly question at this point, I'm aware, but I have to ask. You can't go back to Flotsam or Vergen once you've moved on to the next chapter, right?
