You'll never find a consensus on that. Iorveth is clearly the better choice, but the fools who pretend that Roach is better haven't accepted that fact yet.

I believe in the lord my Snuggler. I'm actually finishing up my Roach playthrough, except for them damng gargoyle glyphs, but I figured I'd save Ivoreth for vacation in two weeks so I could have my real ending. I figured doing Roach first might be cool to get the background on that prick Henslet and some of the other charcters that show up in an Ivoreth playthrough.

just go with Roche to the very end.

There is more significant plot development with Roche than there is with Iorveth. That said, Vergen is a far more interesting area than the Kaedweni camp and its surrounding areas.

Both are worth experiencing imo.

Patch notes for the upcoming 1.3
1. New FREE DLC – “A Sackful of Fluff” is a new quest in Chapter 2 of the game. To start the quest, visit the eccentric Elthon, who inhabits a solitary hut near the quarry outside Vergen. The quest will prove most rewarding to those who demonstrate patience.
2. Game now supports 4:3, 5:4, 16:10 aspect ratios.
3. Item storage has been added. Players can now store items from their Inventory at inns. To leave items in storage or collect previously stored items, talk to innkeepers.
4. A „Junk‟ panel has been added to Inventory to provide greater clarity in item classification.
5. New menu option added in „Extras‟ - enables players to view in-game animated sequences (flashbacks, memory flashes, dreams stolen by harpies) outside of the game.
6. A „Quickload‟ option has been added under the F9 key.
7. The game's HUD can now be hidden in order to produce HUD-free screenshots! On newly installed game copies, the option to hide/show the HUD is available by default under the 'H' key. Users who have modified the key assignments on their installations should go to the 'Input Settings' dialogue of the Witcher 2 Configuration Tool to assign a key to this option. Please note that the game cannot be played with the HUD hidden.
8. Issue involving the game not running at 2560x1440 resolution has been resolved.
9. Issues with nVidia 3D Vision technology have been resolved. Players no longer need to uninstall the related drivers.
10. Key bindings have been corrected to enable configuration of mouse buttons for use by left-handed players.
11. Assorted key binding options have been added to facilitate configuration of controls and quick access to various in-game panels.
12. Issue related to game settings being reset to defaults upon patch installation has been resolved. Patches no longer reset game settings.
13. The configuration file is no longer over-written when the launcher/configuration tool is patched and over-written.
14. The launcher now closes while the game is being patched, thus eliminating the resulting game patching error.
15. The launcher now closes completely and no longer continues to operate in the background.
16. „Installed game version is invalid or incomplete‟ error in updater when free space on system drive is insufficient – message has been corrected to reflect more accurately the nature of the error.
17. Mutagens are now alchemy ingredients. Minor mutagens drop more frequently than do major mutagens, though the overall mutagen drop rate has been reduced.
18. Corrections have been made in the mutagen drop rate and in Thorak‟s store.
19. „Dragon‟ section of Prologue does not become available until after all assault-related sections have been completed, thereby softening the difficulty curve at the start of the game.
20. During the fight against the kayran, when the bridge collapses, a map pin appears at the end of the bridge to facilitate player navigation and quest completion.
21. Map pins have been corrected in many quests.
22. Quen Sign slightly de-buffed – Sign dissipates 20% faster after foes land a blow. Assorted minor balance issues related to this Sign have also been resolved.
23. Issue with Dragon‟s Dream bombs has been resolved. Damage to bosses from cast daggers has been reduced by one-half.
24. Several optimization improvements have been made in the tavern in Vergen.
25. Problem with music accompanying „stealth‟ sequences has been resolved.
26. Issue related to arm wrestling Bart Bargee has been resolved. Players can no longer win coin from this character endlessly.
27. Option to fist fight woman praying at a statue in Vergen has been deactivated.
28. Mini-game contestants at one of the in-game taverns now switch positions correctly without blocking one another.
29. Problem involving Fenn‟s sword in combat has been resolved.
30. Problems with herbalist‟s gloves have been resolved.
31. In the Prologue, Geralt retains his steel long sword throughout, i.e., he is no longer automatically equipped with his default sword for the „Assault‟ sequence.
32. Problem with some nekkers being immortal has been resolved.
33. Issue with triggered black screens blocking game progress has been resolved.
34. Interactions no longer appear on nekker nests after these have been destroyed.
35. The “Scent of Incense” quest no longer shows up as failed after being completed successfully.
36. Sudden switch to gameplay just prior to cut scene involving Cynthia and Philippa has been eliminated.
37. Triss, Roche and Iorveth are now de-spawned before the final credits roll.
38. Guard pacing cycles have been corrected.
39. The Redanian messenger in Henselt‟s tent can no longer be killed, preventing him from re-spawning.
40. Elf woman in Vergen no longer strikes a T-pose.
41. Rotfiends feeding on corpses no longer re-spawn after corpse is burned.
42. Several fixes have been made in the functioning of in-game populaces.
43. Numerous problems with cameras in dialogue sequences have been resolved.
44. Assorted corrections have been made in dialogue sequences (including King Foltest‟s gestures on the town walls in the Prologue).
45. A progression break in the „In the Claws of Madness‟ quest has been eliminated

That's a lot of fixes, new quest sounds nice, but one thing really stands out for me:

The game's HUD can now be hidden in order to produce HUD-free screenshots! On newly installed game copies, the option to hide/show the HUD is available by default under the 'H' key.

OH FUCK YEAH

Thats a very nice changelog. Quen nerf, inventory storage, Junk option in inventory, cutscene viewer. Very, very good.

Also glad to see the aspect ratio fixes for those asking for it. It was a long wait but Im glad those guys can play it the way they want to.

Item storage? Sweet. Now I don't have to go download the "no weight limit" thing.

Or maybe I will anyway because I'm a horrible packrat.

I assume that the quarry is accessible in the Roach path as well? I'm still in ch. 1 if my 2nd playthrough which will be on his side, so hopefully I don't miss the new quest.

Unless I miss my guess, the hut is the one that contains the solitary dead person in it. Should be accessible for either path.

I'm probably only going to beat the game once, twice tops.

Should I side with Roche or Iorveth? Which is more fun?
Depends on what you are political... if you are left-wing go with iorveth, if you are right-wing go with roche. I went for Iorveth more because of saskia. In personality, Roche>>> Iorverth.
But chapter 2 its a lot more cool on Iorveth side.

Sup bros, I had a hard time of defeating that guy who wielded the "Operator's staff". I was forced to tune down the difficulty to Easy just to kill him. May I know any tips or glitches to defeat him in normal mode (or at higher difficulty)?

My witcher's build is mainly on swordsmanship and got my ass hurt because of that.

That guy raped me like 12 times so I said screw it, I'm respecing.

I literally just finished my first play through a few minutes ago, and I want to say thank you to CDPROJEKT for such an amazing game. I'm literally like thinking of four or five different end game playthroughs just for the Roach path. Then, I still have the Ivoreth path to play through. Where did these guys come from and how can I buy them a drink? Like, I enjoyed the Witcher 1, but this is like 10 times better. I usually roll my eyes when in the credits when they thank their wives and kids who were born during the project. But yes, if any random CDPROJEKT dude is reading this, thank you for all time you worked on this or missed family events. Just fucking thank you.

Especially because it's eastern European right? So they probably don't make as much money as US or Japanese developers. WTF? these guys should be the envy of the fucking industry. Even the end credits were good. Hopefully my 360 bretheren will buy this when the console port comes out. Fuck all the it's not going to look as good, obviously, but everyone needs to play this game. CDPROJEKT is the new Bioware to me tbqh.

Keep rolling/dodging, stay with silver sword for killing gargoyles (really the only actual challenging part of the fight - when they're not around you can easily drop his health even with the "wrong" sword type), then when you reach a point during the rolling around that only one gargoyle is close to you, Aard and get in a hit or two then start rolling again. Having a good silver sword is very helpful... I used the Addan Deith when I killed him on Hard.

Do you you see an option to install DLC in the launcher? If you don't you're on 1.2.

You needed to download 1.1 separately, if you didn't do that you're on 1.0.

I went the swordsmanship route and beat him on medium difficulty.

First, you obviously want to go in with the best equipment possible. I specifically recommend Deithwen as your silver sword. It does 25% extra damage to gargoyles. You pretty much need to roll around a lot and use quen when possible. You will probably have more trouble with the latest patch. There's pillars in the corners of the room you can hide behind and block the operator's spells. Also, use whatever potions and oils you can right before you enter.

Holy shit, new quest, item storage, 16:10.. fuck yeah :D. I'm at the end of chapter 1 in my second walktrough, I'll wait for the patch

Oh wow it's been a while since I finish The Witcher 2 on vanilla version with Roche path and now patch 1.3 is coming soon.

I'm still amaze on how I can enjoy the game on my antique Pentium D 805 with 9800GT... need to replay back with Iorveth path once patch 1.3 is out.

Nevermind, 1.3 isn't out yet. Finishing up some of the endings in the Roche path. I'll save 1.3 for my Ivoreth path. Can't weight. Item storage should make people who don't want to install the no weight mod feel better plus new quest and cutscene viewer. Yes.

Chapter 2 humor -
Just heard the LoTR joke in the beginning of chapter 2. Good stuff.

there's
the Wolfenstein
joke in Chapter 2, Roche walkthrough. But they're all pretty heavy-handed except the one in Prologue.

I don't have the time. I'm barely squeezing in 1 hour every other day as is. By the time I'm done, it'll be the holiday rush of games.

I'm sure they're both great but was one more clever? More interesting? Better dialog? Better boss fights?

Really, you don't have to play the entire game twice if you want to see both paths. Chapter III is so short compared to the other two chapters (I powered through it in a day) that you'll really only be playing a different Chapter 2 over again and a slightly different short Chapter III. Just do what I'm going to do and reload your end of Chapter 1 save when you have to make the choice and choose the other one. The only reason to really play it over entirely again is if you want to see all 16 endings and getter a better appreciation of the story.

The game is artfully crafted and cinematic. Looks the best on PC (as PC is King), and has quite an enticing storyline. I really hope the console versions sell well too as it would benefit a great game developer / publisher.

It's still coming out a week after Skyrim so I see it getting totally overshadowed by that.

Use oils on both your swords. The more damage you do to the Operator before he throws up Quen the less Gargoyle spawns you have to deal with. After you kill the gargoyles sheath your sword and try and get some distance between you and the Operator. Try hiding behind a piller. You can now save. This was the only way I was able to get through the fight. Make sure you have Quen up at all times too.

but ever so delicious
Just finished it then, Apart from the early combat and boss fights and ending, This was outstanding.

My ending was the following

killed the dragon, killed letho, walked off with triss. The end

wat :/

killed the dragonslayer!

Well it wasn't my intent. I thought that
the dragon was stuck on some large ass piece of wood, so i figured killing it would give it a clean death instead of sitting there slowly dying. I wanted saskia to become king/queen but yea lol

I
let it go because Witchers aren't supposed to kill dragons, and she could have been the last one. If you don't she pulls herself off and huffs and puffs a bit so I'm sure she'll be fine.

I beat it at launch on the Roche path. But I'm definitely gonna have to do my Ioverth run after that Patch 1.3 comes out. Those are some awesome changes.

DLC, Item storage, an actual junk panel, cut-scene viewer, hide the HUD...

That's exactly what I did on my first run lol. But then I came here and felt all bad about it.
If you pick Iorveth instead of Triss, you'll get a dagger to free Saskia. And you'll be rewarded with an interesting scene and...confession. Go replay that section man :p

Nice, lots of fixes for that next patch. I've been running into a helluva lot of bugs such as cutscenes not kicking in (just total darkness until I press a button or something, skipping the cutscene), voices cutting out, NPCs and monsters just disappearing into thin air, etc. Hopefully the patch remedies a lot of these.

Oh yeah, another thing I hope they fix is when you need to follow NPCs for a certain quest. Its kinda stupid when most of the time, they just stop moving. "You guys are supposed to be leading the way, not standing around doing nothing!". Other than that, I just can't stop playing the game lol
