I just saw the scans. Wow at the logo. I'm not the biggest fan of Music/Rhythm games but I do love the Patapon games. I might be interested if the impressions are good.
From what? The name? Or that one blurry screen with barely any details in it?
It has some basic similarities, such as rhythm based action by responding to button prompts. All I'm saying is that Jupiter is involved, this is probably as close to TWEWY 2 as we're gonna get.
when I saw the scan and it looked like a cheap parody that probably make a shitty mini-game people spend a few minutes on before moving on from it rather than a standalone product.

Eh, considering that I see 4 lines for "notes" to come in, the gameplay looks more involved than Shiki's ever was. Besides, TWEWY was less rhythm based than simply mashing based.
And the enemies sit down on the left side of the screen, while the party is on the right side. None of the twewy frantic enemy evading is going on in these blurry screens.
Of course, maybe it gets some of the other twewy gameplay systems, like the chapters, or what not, but that's secondary imho.
Every one of my contributions has been bested by the first-class wackiness that is THEATRYTHM.
It's almost possible to imagine Japanese people liking the name, though; if it's テアトリズム in katakana, it's the same as "theatrism", which might conceivably be an English word.
I got the joke and neologism when I first read it, but that name is terrible. Even the katakana turns it into something like a solecism or corruption. It helps somewhat that I'm very familiar with the "theatre" spelling as I'm used to Commonwealth spelling, but I'm assuming that a lot of people here are familiar with the "theater" spelling due to the large percentage of usage in COCA and thus "theatrhythm" looks like it has several different pronunciations. Perhaps Square-Enix, or whoever named this, should have looked at major variations across different dialects, eh?
OT at Dunan in particular: How difficult is German? I only analyzed a bit of it in phonology, morphology and syntax (well, Syntax I; I had a Japanese prof for Advanced Syntax and we analyzed Japanese, English and Irish for the most part). I'd imagine it'd be similar to learning Dutch or Frisian, no?

Been waiting for this game since GIA's "Funky Fantasy" April Fool.
You know, I really don't understand why Square just doesn't want to work on things, their core base may actually like. I mean, like, I don't know, KH3? Maybe speeding up Versus production?
But it's okay, don't worry. We'll do just fine with final fantasy pon. I mean, that's what we wanted right?

For an English speaker I'd say German and Dutch are equally easy. You should be able to jump into them right away. Many hidden cognates. Both have more regular spelling than English, as you might have guessed. I haven't learned enough Dutch to say much, but German grammar, while more complex than English, isn't anything that you'll throw your hands up in despair about. I had it all through high school, and can still parse any sentence, though my vocab is weakening.
And I need to make a correction to the katakana I posted above: looking at a more detailed screenshot, it's English-based シアトリズム, not German-based テアトリズム.
シアトリズム could also be read as "Seattle-ism".
Since the Mariners are owned by Nintendo, maybe this game will come out for the Wii U!

More like ''Not the game you wanted, but the game we hope will appeal to the casual market: which is all that matters to half the industry nowadays anyway''.

Thank you very much. I just remember parsing some of these ridiculously long German words in morphology a few years ago. They weren't too difficult, but it took a while. If it's similar to Dutch then I shouldn't have many problems with learning the language myself.
You know, I'm genuinely surprised that SE hasn't used too much French or German in its titles or games outside of weapon/armour names. Seems like they're on a Latin stint right now (much to my amusement, and the amusement of my former Latin prof--his reaction upon my translation of those Latin FFVersus lyrics was amusing, since they were so cheesy). I know using foreign (and thus "exotic") lexical items makes it look cool in Japanese, but for native speakers, it's just really amusing.
It looks way blurry, but it's definitely シアトリズム.
I can see it being ported to Wii U, or at least a sequel for Wii U for extra profit!
To be honest, I don't think I can get hyped for an FF game until I see the game in motion now. Type-0 looks awesome in its videos and screens, and I know it'll eventually be released, so I'm psyched for it. With regards to Versus, I haven't seen much of it in playable form to get hyped for it. Even the stuff from January didn't really do much for me.
A new Final Fantasy game announcement used to be such a grand affair for me. It's unfortunate that it no longer seems to be the case.
I'm intrigued, if only because I've toyed forever with that same idea of combining RPG battles with a dynamic rhythm-based action mechanic (eventually making every movement and sound in the game sync up with the music in the background in some way shape or form).
Why people are so upset ?
That could be a good game, as it could also be a shovelware.
I see two cases:
-SE makes an RPG, with a musical system battle. Sounds good.
-SE makes a classic rythm game, with backgrounds from old Final Fantasy. Sounds shovelware.
I hope it will be the first one plus I really find that charac-design awesome
Well if its an actual rpgs with leveling up and each level increases your attack per rythm (aswell as hp and other stats like always) then that would be cool.
If its just a rythem I guess I wont be as excited but it could still be cool. Im excited for it either way.
rhythm games can be pretty good (Elite Beat Agents wasn't bad and that sounds a lot like this, what's the problem?) and the art style is pretty freakin' sweet. even manages to make Nomura's designs look almost ok
written and directed by Matsuno, but that isn't going to happen any time soon now
.
FFXI should really get more expansions on its universe, though. A lot of it is good.

I'm inclined to approach this more cautiously. We don't accurately know how this thing plays yet, lol.
Best-case scenario: It plays like EBA. Edgar, Sazh and Balthier will be wearing the EBA suits. Auron will take the place of Commander Kahn, shouting, "Warriors are... GO!" Alternate modes will include Turks Mode, "Real Emotion" mode with YRP, and "brooding" mode with Cloud, Squall and Lightning. This scenario won't happen.
Alright-case scenario: It plays like Mother 3's rhythm battles. But the rhythm tapping is related to the character's ATB gauge. If you fail to tap to the rhythm adequately, the character misses his/her turn. Or possibly tapping the icon next to the character to execute an attack timed with the rhythm.
Worst-case scenario: It's a traditional rhythm game with battle backgrounds from many FF games, and it doesn't seem like you have much input other than tapping out the rhythm.
Preach it from the heavens brother........no seriously gaming has just evolved like everything else. Consider yourself lucky gaming is new enough that their are still untapped genre's to discover. In my opnion this is what Squeenix is doing.
I'm kind of surprised they're still doing games with Jupiter, since after TWEWY, they hired away several of their staffers and switched to just making games with h.a.n.d.
Like a notably large portion of the people behind TWEWY are actually straight up Square Enix employees these days.
Shane occasionally..."imagines" game news/rumors, so I'll wait to see if anyone else says this before I believe it. Haven't seen it anywhere else, personally.
