are you gigabowsers alt?Come holidays 2028 when we get proper 999$/€ ps6 with zen5 cpu, at least 24gigs of vram(maybe even 32) and gpu power around/close to 4090( including rt capabilities and ai upscaling- those gonna be standard next gen so future sony console cant be weak in that area anymore), that mashine gonna dominate hard, switch2 with its outdated af tech will be like a kindergarten kid vs adult trying to win a fist fight, xbox will just be prebuild pc with xbox sticker/app.
As long as sony/amd wont fuck it up we will have amazing piece of hardware with relatively low competition aka very clear path to success- ofc like with any mashine, high quality exclusives are a must, so lets hope sony will be proper in that area too, no gaas multiplayer shooters anymore ffs

PS1 and PS2 go to Sony. PS4 beat Wii U, but Switch beat PS4. DS beat PSP. 3DS beat Vita. PS5 and Switch 2 undecided.
There's always going to be little stuff like that, that will crossover . Come back to me when all the big 3rd parties start releasing all their games on Nintendo hardware like they do on even series s and then I'll consider them competitors. Most of the big console third parties support steamdeck with more games than switch 2.
Don't forget Sony makes astrobot and they are rumored to be planning a non-streaming handheld. Nintendo bought a Miyazaki directed exclusive that will now possibly not release on Playstation. Sure seems like a lot of suffering for two companies that don't compete. Even if they don't compete, Nintendo did take from the next gen consoles and PC with the miyazaki game. It's like saying movie theatres and netflix don't compete right before the next big Tarantino movie released as a day 1 Netflix exclusive. I think everybody is competing for everybody's time now. It doesn't help the next Miyazaki game looks just like Bloodborne 2.

After defeating Xbox and getting the home console monopoly, the next step would be to continue growing in PC to fight Steam later with their own PC PSN store, to expand to portables again to fight Nintendo there, and to start expanding in mobile.
How is that "beefing the data"…? They've competed directly six times, I counted the six times.
Nobody defines gens like this though. You can't just pretend Wii U didn't exist. The Wii U was the PS4 competitor released during that gen. The PS4 and Switch were 4 years apart and not from the same gen.
I already conceded this point in a previous post lol, but yes, I agree, we should include Wii U (in which case the Switch's "win" is against PS5, rather than PS4). This also keeps the generation definition a lot cleaner than the messiness that comes with squishing the Switch in the same gen as PS4.
I also agree wth this. The Wii U and PS4 defeat was where they outright gave up on competing as a pure home console manufacturer and retreated to the safety of their portable monopoly. This is not dissimilar to the Vita causing Sony to ditch portables and retreat to the safety of home consoles, where they have always dominated. Both companies decided to focus on their respective strengths.
Sony is doing great according to the factual data: they are having the top grossing generation any console maker ever had in gaming history, the highest active userbase any console maker ever had, they are making more profit than Nintendo.
I understand, I was adding info regarding what led them down a different route. Even today this route is being compared to the PS5 when they're not really comparable devices both in terms of release schedule of when the gens started or their formfactor/purpose. The market has changed considerably. There is a disconnect when it becomes PS5 vs Switch compared to previous gens where it was PS1 vs N64 (gameboy separate), PS2 vs Gamecube (DS separate), etc and I was highlighting this disconnect and why it exists and that reason was because the Wii U failed against the PS4.

I mean, do they have to 'beat Nintendo this time'? Sony and Nintendo have vastly different products that serve vastly different sections of the market.
