There's something unsettling about this image

From Super Mario 64. The odd texturing on the walls, the red carpet that only leads to the frightening image of Bowser. It's some pretty freaky shit when you put into consideration that the floor is constantly moving and keeping you away from the painting (whoops referring to the endless stairs sorry :( . What do you think

I found the never ending staircase genuinely unnerving as a kid, but that was mainly due to the music and the fact I used to sneak a ton of wine from the fridge and play video games because I lived a very thug lifestyle.

This gif is totally over my head. On topic though, I agree that it's unsettling. First thing I thought of was The Shining. N64 Zelda titles have a bit of an eerie vibe as well. Something about the little vocal snippets and the characters just bobbing up and down during dialogue.

ReDeads in OOT really fucked me up as a kid. That stock scream is really odd

How some of the hallways are set up are pretty nifty, really. At one moment you're walking and observing the castle and as SOON as you turn that corner, with that shitty SM64 camera, you see that hallway. pretty intimidating if you ask me

it's a kubrick shot. kubrick shots are always unsettling

Maybe when I was playing it ~18 years ago. Looking at it right now, no.

You can still appreciate how creepy it is though. It reminds me of those fundamentally unsettling pixel artworks

(NSFW) look at the series of pictures that starts with the telescope kid. I find this hilarious, but I still can recognize the inherently terrify notion of looking at something scary from far away, having it notice you, then watching it quickly running toward you and being cornered. Even without the creepy aesthetics, that scenario is unsettling, just like the image in the OP

A part of Mario Galaxy that 98% of people will never notice b/c it's behind the beginning point of a stage. Although when you do find it, it's disturbing
Guess I was part of that 98%
But still, wtf? Why would that kind of imagery exist in SMG?

Edit: I don't know if it's normal but the lack of symmetry in both their physiognomy and positioning scare the shit out of me
