Can someone please give me tips on dealing with these things (10th one down, "Undead - Wraith"):
http://toohuman.wikia.com/wiki/Enemies

Everytime I see them (they usually travel in packs of two or three - on the first playthrough anyway) I panic. Hit me with status effects everytime. Are you not supposed to shoot them? Are you supposed to dodge that "pulse" they emmit that gives off the status effects? I don't think jumping helps. I think it's an attack that causes the effects - I don't think they are exploding like the polarity enemies. In the chaos it's hard to tell sometimes though.

I was hoping to get through the game with a single digit death count (9 deaths until Helheim - all 9 in the Ice Forest) but now I've died a handful of times in Helheim and I think I only have 2 tokens so far, so I have a ways to go.

I use long distance fierce attacks on the wraiths. I still get hit occasionally by their blast damage, but I don't like getting close to them. I'll fire off a couple fierce attacks and then dodge roll when they blow up.

Ranged fierce attacks or just learn to roll, you can dodge just about anything in this game with a well timed roll.

Alright so I've been gone all weekend but I come back having beaten the campaign with a level 37 champion. I've got close to 20 hours between single and co-op. This game is fan-freaking-tastic. I can't wait for the next one and what a cock tease for the next game.

I agree that when playing this game... time just flies by quick as hell. Also anyone ever go into cyber space from the big tree in Asier? That place is like a maze with all the doors and teleporters.

Anyways.

My only complaints with the game would be some oddball glitches like floating enemies. The animations and framerate in cutscenes could be better. Also the boss battles. I know this is a hack and slash and usually these bosses only require hacking away but perhaps add in some enviromental puzzles... (not like the second level boss though!!!!)

Aside from these issues, game was ALOT of fun. I really think that most reviewers were trying to review this out of context of its genre. I've played alot of these types of games and they can all get fairly repetative yet its the nature of the beast. Loot man, its all about the thrill of loot and leveling.

I will say also that after seeing the credits, I wanted to pop right back in and continue fighting. Unfortunatly I had pressing matters to take care of.

Appreciate the responses...I'll definitely keep my distance from now on and fierce them. I kept rushing in to finish them off a.s.a.p. (attempting to juggle them to a fierce attack - I'm a human champion) but the second or third one would hit me with a status effect in the process. Status effects have cost me a few deaths in Helheim so far (that, and getting going out of my way to fill charm quests) so I have to be more careful. Nothing is worse than dying JUST as you reach one of those item "boxes" to smash for health...ugh.

Haha. Not gonna disagree with you there.

I guess the game is just more balanced for champion/defender for single player?

Played a Defender as well and only died 16 times. I'm not exactly an "elite" player when it comes to twitch games either. Also...I found out about the cybernetic skill tree AFTER I finished the game. o_O So...maybe playing a Defender is a bit easier. Not sure as it's my only experience. I had the most trouble with the dark elves that spam laser-fire at you. I would roll and jump my way in close to them and then from there, juggle them all and Ruiner my way through them. Not pretty but Defenders are anything but pretty.

I'm 36th level now with my defender and I started playing with a Commando last night. Completely different kind of game and I'm absolutely burning through mobs as a Commando.

You really need "soft hands" with the Commando, but "soft hands" tends to work great with all of the classes.

Also.. Can wells not be found after the initial playthrough? I missed ONE well and found it, but it wont count in my stats.. god damnit denis.

I want to finish the single player tonight, but I'm down if you want to co-op in the near future. We are similar levels so I think it would work out well (level 26 Champion right now). I'll send you an invite later. I also have to send an invite to the Neo Gaf tag; waiting til I beat single player to do that.

Is there a way to deal with toxin/burning effects after they are on you? I'm tired of finishing up a battle and watching my life slowly drain to nothing.

That drove me nuts too, especially when I played through Helheim last night it seemed that I was getting poisoned left and right. I'd have full health and then be poisoned only to have my health wither away while I was running around. :/

If you're not a bio or aren't partnered with one in co-op you are pretty much SOL unless there are some unbroken containers near the battle... wait until you are almost dead and then break them to increase your chances of getting health. Usually if you get 2 healths that's more than enough to outlast the effect.

I wonder if SK will release a soundtrack for the game. I loved it! I just want to listen to the music while at work, is that so bad?
The best part is the loud guitar in the challenge rooms. :D *air guitars*

Hell yeah! I always got excited for those parts. :D
Speaking of which. On my second play through of the Ice Forest last night, it glitched so that it didn't matter if I died in the challenge room. I died a couple of times, but it didn't boot me out, so I fought my way up to the top and got the swag from the 5 pillars of looty-goodness up there. :lol

My only regret is that I salvaged the armor quickly without realizing that putting it on for a sec would have unlocked the Elite Armor achievement. Whoops.

Sure, that'd be fun. I might play a bit tonight when I'm back from work. I'm a lvl 40 champion. I just sent you a FR.

Sounds good. I'm a level 37 champion so will see how two champions rip it up lol.

That has definitely topped the GRNDL boss battle music as my favorite theme in the game.

It's such an awesome medoly with the air guitars and then the choir in the background, it really does pump you up during the battle. I really want an mp3 of that one.

Finished. Lvl 30 Bio. 15 hours. Good game. Lots of room for improvement for the sequel. Nice soundtrack :). Decent enough story. Think i'd give it a low 7 overall. SK put plenty of work into the game overall and it shows. Good job guys.

I had weird glitch in the game last night as well. I was also playing in one of the challenge rooms, and I died, and when I respawned, I was outside of the game world. It was really odd. I could walk around but it was very very dark, and I could see light in certain areas, but the paths were blocked. I just saved and quit out of it.

Level 50 battle is indeed a different ballgame. A buddy of mine came in my game (mind you, he was a level 22---wrong move lol), and I was a level 50. We got stuck in a room in level three, and we kept dying as soon as we spawned. After a minute or so, both of bodies and weapons were flashing red from the thrashing. We were dying laughing (fun times).

The only thing I've found to possibly be helpful is to constantly roll around. It seems to prevent most of the damage, but I can't even be sure.

Ya man, lvl 50 stuff ups the ante big time. Its like life or death every single time you see ANYTHING. I was a lvl 43 commando and he is a 50 bio, and we are constantly low on health and having fights go to the wire. Trolls hit me for 2500, regular goblins for like 400 per swipe. The dark elfs range hit hard and give bad status effects. Mobs blow up when u kill them, its insane. You have to use everything at your disposal.

Stupid ass bugs. I paused to go to equipment menu while standing next to a well. The A button icon stayed at the top right corner.. I didn't really mind since the menus worked fine but once I went back into the game I couldn't fucking jump at all or mount those enemies that require it to 1 shot em for the rest of the level. So annoying as a zerker who can't jump for almost all of level 3.

I'll have to go against the grain on this level 50 stuff, it's hard but not all that different, not once you get decent equipment.

And it makes it harder that you are fighting level 55 enemies and you are capped at 50, lol. Wish you could go past 50. I love the leveling up. Maybe, give the chance to go down another skill tree path. And implement some switch mechanic so you could use the different skills from the different skill paths.

Well to my understanding the sequels will be able to carry over your char, so I imagine they will keep on upping the cap with that.

I grinded (ground?) to level 50 on my commando solely through co-op, and am now trying to complete the entire campaign at 50. It's not as challenging as I thought it would be, and I raking in the drops. I haven't received any epic armor drops, but I have had a level 44 epic laser rifle and a level 50 epic slug rifle (boy does it take the robots down fast...) fall into my lap. Sounds like I'm in the miniority when it comes to getting lucky drops though.

What class? As a commando, i cant take too many hits before im dead even witha bio engineer teammate. i dont die a lot, but i find myself having to play a lot better to do so.

If I remember correctly its planned for part 2 to have a level 100 cap, and part 3 to have 150 cap. Either that or someone suggested it. I could swear thats something that was announced though.

I think you're safe when rolling for just about everything except for the Ice Trolls. You can still get frozen by their runey smash of doom unless you jump over the damage circle.

Berserker, probably the hardest class. I mean, yeah I beat ninja gaiden 2 in master but I dont think that translates over to too human :p

And whatever reviewer said that different classes makes no difference to the game is crazy. Being able to take bomb hits without being knocked down is a godsend, lol.

It might be a bit different for you i guess. Earlier lvl's, enemies kind of circle around you for a bit before attacking. That gave me time to blast on them for a bit. Now, they drop in and run right for me swinging, taking off about 1/5th of my HP per hit. The first time i droppedinto my friends game when he as lvl 50 (i as 41), a pack of goblins in the HoH killed me in about 2 seconds before i even knew i was low on HP.

This happened to me too. Very annoying not being able to jump. I solved it by going behind a troll, pressing 'A', and after I climbed up, the icon disappeared. Not sure why troll climbing didn't work for you.

Ya, killing those trolls without the jumping trick as a lvl 20 something zerker was hard for me =[

Question. During co-op, do both you and your partner have to live to get the unstoppable achievements on the levels? I didn't die in the ice forest, but my buddy died numerous times. I didn't get the cheevo.

So considering the ammount of posts in this thread and what our overall reactions our to the game. Do you think this game will sell decent enough to get the other two games guys?

I wish this series released the other 2 games in 6 months time span. Sorta like Dot Hack did. Guess this gives us plenty of time to get every class to level 50 though . :D

goldenpp72 said:
I dont think your buddy has to survive, but you do both have to have started from the beggining I think..

We started from the beginning. But we were both going for it at first trying not to die. He died, and we went back to the Aesir and restarted from the beginning. Maybe that is where it messed up. The second time we decided, whoever died first would be the point man for the rest of the level so the other wouldn't die.

we wont know how it sells for a month or so, I do think it will sell enough to justify a sequel, I just hope MS doesn't back out due to critical responses.

Well what level are you? I need a partner to do these (sans level 1) but no one is good at this game.

My berserker is level 50, and my defender is level 21. I'm pretty good. I do die but it was after I got to the higher levels with my berserker. My gamertag is DarthVader1981 if you wanna play sometime. I think maybe those achievments would be easier if you start with a level 1 charcater on the levels. One of us needs to be a bio engineer I think.
