On September 10, hours after Kirk was shot, Harrison made an off-color joke on social media: "I hope the shooter's name is Mario so that Luigi knows his bro got his back," she wrote, referencing the alleged murder by Luigi Mangione of a United Healthcare executive back in December 2024.

A screenshot of her BlueSky post immediately began circulating on Twitter after right-wing commentators and influencers urged people to track down those who had mocked or criticized Kirk.

...Harrison was hopeful Sucker Punch was well aware of the tactics of Gamergate, especially since they had resurfaced in the previous year. The allegations that consultancy firms were injecting diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into video games extended to Sucker Punch when Yotei was announced and queer actor Erika Ishii was revealed to be playing its protagonist.

An office manager, Harrison said, explained that the company's phones were being bombarded with anonymous calls — so many that another Sucker Punch employee, who was granted anonymity for fear of retribution, told me they were instructed to unplug their desk phones.

"Due to a social media post by one of our team members, many corners of our studio and Sony organization are having to manage a developing situation," the message read. "We may have to pause a trailer release…there will be some significant amount of work created now to ensure we keep the spotlight on the fantastic game we've all created. Please be mindful of how you represent yourself online…"

Hours later, Harrison was invited to a video call with someone she had never met, a member of Sony's human resources department. Within 10 minutes, she no longer had a job.

The campaign for Harrison's firing had been led by popular streamer Zack Hoyt, known as Asmongold, and Mark Kern, a former video game executive who posts under the name Grummz. On the day of Kirk's death, Grummz instructed his followers to help Asmongold amass a list of those "mocking or cheering Charlie Kirk's assassination."

"They got fired from their job," he said. "Too bad, huh? Wow. What a shame for you." He added, "Eventually, you'll get a new job, and when you do, I might just make another video and contact that employer, too. Now, why would I do that? For fun. I enjoy it. I like it. It's a nice pastime."

I don't understand why anyone would post anything like that and think that it wouldn't come back around to bite them in the ass.

I've known that my entire digital life would be traceable from back in like 2005, which is why I just don't say horrible things on the internet. It's not that hard.

Dems has been used to being able to push all their stupid agenda, being blatantly racist towards white people and get away with anything because adults don't care to say anything to these children.

It is completely shocking and unheard of, by these spoiled children, who has screamed cancel culture and killed careers with way less drama than this one, that they actually believe they are immune to having consequences because they have lived in an alterantive world for so many years.

The person is egging on murder, why would they think these spineless ass companies would have their back?

If you generate enough bad press/attention, they'll just throw you away like garbage, while calling everyone at the next company meeting 'family'.

The threshold for far lefty nonsense is just higher to fire, because the people in charge are on that side of the spectrum, but it's not full immunity from being a dumbass.

That sick employee deserved to be fired for that sick, twisted and evil comment. That type of comment is not even human. Infairness, I give Sony credit for firing that fool.

I don't necessarily agree with this idea of someone losing their job over social media posts but it is funny AF to see these people who weaponized their ideology have that same weapon turned on them by people from the opposite side of the spectrum.

It's interesting that she now refers to it as a 'bad joke'. As I recall she was quite adamant that she was in fact taking a stand against fascism and that if losing her job was the price of that then she would 'do it again 100x stronger'.

Anyway, I'm glad her actions had meaningful consequences. Hopefully she will learn from it, become a better person and conduct herself in a less abhorrent manner in future. Unfortunately it seems she has instead resorted to rewriting history in her head, such that the whole incident was everyone else's fault and such that she was practically blameless, as is the normal instinctive response for people like this.

I suspect the path out of her 'isolation and depression' begins with a good dose of self-reflection, but I'm sure she doesn't want to hear that.

You know someone who would have wanted her to find a way out of her isolation and depression? Charlie Kirk.

That Mike Tyson quote just cannot be posted enough. And it goes for everyone - not just women, not just liberals, not just young people, etc.

If you wouldn't say it to someone standing next to you in an elevator, you probably shouldn't say it on the public internet.

That piece of shit deserved to be fired, and I hope the negative reaction to her comments follows her wherever she goes for the rest of her life.

She and anyone who agrees with her should be shunned from society like a leper.

I really don't understand the perspective of, "I don't like this person, but let me go to their website and read what they have to say." If you don't like someone, or something, life is a lot better when you just don't pay any attention to them.

Says horrible things IRL confirmed.

I joke!

Can we forget about all this and turn this into an Alanah thread instead, please. :lollipop_crying:
