You a teacher pal? My lad finished a 2pm today, I'd have thought there would have been some official word on kids schooling during a heatwave like this.39 degrees in my classroom. 28 10 year olds are like little heaters.
I was thinking all schools broke up on Friday, was just with the lad going past another school in town and they're all on the playground, some in full uniform..You a teacher pal? The uniform thing is bloody rediculous, my lad's school are allowing the pupils to wear their gym kit (t shirt and shorts, essentially) but I've heard of other local schools that are only now relaxing some of their dress rules, like not having to wear their blazers to school, etc.I was thinking all schools broke up on Friday, was just with the lad going past another school in town and they're all on the playground, some in full uniform..
Turns out his school used their inset days
Lucky git.
Yeah we had all that too, it was only the end of last week they relaxed my boys uniform to the P.E kit but even then they suggested to wear the thick football socks. I came home on Thursday and he's still in his socks, I said you cant be serious..The uniform thing is bloody rediculous, my lad's school are allowing the pupils to wear their gym kit (t shirt and shorts, essentially) but I've heard of other local schools that are only now relaxing some of their dress rules, like not having to wear their blazers to school, etc.
It's beyond stupid.
It's extremely rare in houses and the mainly brick and breezeblock (cinder block) construction makes it almost impossible to retrofit.Appreciate the response!
Sounds like air conditioning (whether it's window units or central AC) is not prevalent?
We're British...we don't "enjoy" weather, we moan about itEnjoy the weather and air would be my approach I don’t understand all this weather aggression.
We do enjoy the moaning about it though! We're British...we don't "enjoy" weather, we moan about it

You guys don’t have ac in your houses over there right? How do you all stay cool during times like this?
Electric fans and lots of cold stuff
Buy fans and portable air conditioners. Also ice packs and bottles of water from the fridge help. You guys don’t have ac in your houses over there right? How do you all stay cool during times like this?
90% of homes in Japan have air conditioning though even if it is not central air con. UK it is estimated at under 5%.This is nothing. I was in Japan in a worse heatwave in 2018 and 120 people died in Tokyo that week from heat exhaustion. I saw two people feint myself.
The one good thing about all this. God bless uni students too lazy/hot to be in class.Well at least I have the girls barely wearing anything to look forward too
We don't. Humidity. Sleepless nights. Listening to insufferable bell ends telling us to toughen up and enjoy it while it lasts. You guys don’t have ac in your houses over there right? How do you all stay cool during times like this?
Yeah, my Dad, bless his soul served overseas in the far East and tropics for a lot of his military life and always insisted on a cup of tea to cool him downI guess it helps that I live in a tropical country but I don't see it as a big deal.
We drink coffee in these temperatures and it's humid as fuck.
41 max tomorrow in Paris, where nobody has air con in their apartments.OK let's see who's suffering the most. Here in my part of North Yorkshire The met office is predicting max temps of 34 today and 39 tomorrow but it's already 33 in the shade outside in my garden! At least the humidity is low at 31% so it just feels nice and warm so far.
Any Londoners still alive?
I know most of the world uses C instead of F and the US(and a few other countries) are kind of a loners using F… but I gotta say, seeing discussions of heat waves in other countries makes me become more and more of a Fahrenheit stan. Something about seeing a number in the 90s or even triple digits really drives home the impact of a heat wave. Seeing 30s doesn’t really sell it.
All poking fun aside, here on the east coast, summer has been relatively mild so far,but we are supposed to get a heat wave of our own this week. Upper 90s
