UK Heat Wave

I was working delivery yesterday, not fun.

Thankfully not in work today, I'm in tomorrow though with Delivery, but I'm suddenly feeling very very ill. 👀

36C here in St.Albans at the mo'.
I'm a Winter baby and was around for the '76 heatwave and I think it's safe for me to say that I've got far too much Northern European ancestry in me for this shit!
Luckily, my other half lived in Cyprus for many years so she knows all the tricks for trying to keep a house cool while I slowly evaporate...

it's currently 27 here and will go to 28 and 29 tomorrow. my clock temperature is saying my room is 24C.

i've got the windows open, blinds down, and my fan going. feeling quite comfortable but if i get up and move i can feel the heat. at ~9AM i was walking outside for a bit and it was roasting then. i don't plan on going outside to see what it's like now. i've lost count of how many bottles of water i've filled up today and also been having some ice lollies :messenger_tears_of_joy:

i need to get offline because the constant news about the heatwave and climate change is fucking stressing me out. shit is only going to keep getting worse.

To our fellow GAF brothers and sisters across the pond, here's a little song that you can jam to on your way home from work/school/etc:

Real talk, though: stay hydrated, stay cool, and stay safe out there! 👍🏾

37 degrees celsius here. I was going to go to the gym but I didn't want to risk getting heat stroke via the journey there and back. I've just been exercising in my chinchillas room where they have their own air conditioner fired up.

You a teacher pal? My lad finished a 2pm today, I'd have thought there would have been some official word on kids schooling during a heatwave like this.
I was thinking all schools broke up on Friday, was just with the lad going past another school in town and they're all on the playground, some in full uniform..

Turns out his school used their inset days :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Lucky git.

The uniform thing is bloody rediculous, my lad's school are allowing the pupils to wear their gym kit (t shirt and shorts, essentially) but I've heard of other local schools that are only now relaxing some of their dress rules, like not having to wear their blazers to school, etc.

It's beyond stupid.

Those temps are no joke. We had a heatdome here last year. Reported to have killed about 500 in my province, including my neighbour.

The temps not dropping at night, giving no reprieve, as the days got hotter added to the oppression.

If no air conditioning would have reached for the fans and cold wet towels from the fridge.

I feel for you, UK bros. The house I grew up in didn’t have central air at first because in that part of California “you don’t need it,” but it sure was miserable during a heat wave, especially when it wouldn’t cool off much at night. Finally my parents installed central AC when I was about 15, so I got a few years of relief before moving out.

The house I own now has a central unit that was probably fine for the summers 25 years ago when it was installed, but with every summer seeming to break all time records of the previous summer, I’m guessing this thing is on its way out for a bigger unit in the next year or two

Yeah we had all that too, it was only the end of last week they relaxed my boys uniform to the P.E kit but even then they suggested to wear the thick football socks. I came home on Thursday and he's still in his socks, I said you cant be serious..

It seems unbelievable what some of these schools now expect of pupils.

I feel terrible for you guys in the UK. I'm lucky enough to have central AC and it's on full blast 24/7 and it's not even as hot over here right now.

35c here, thank god I'm not in work
But it's supposed to be hotter tomorrow 👀
Well at least I have the girls barely wearing anything to look forward too 😏

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
Rain on Wednesday with a temperature drop of 15 degrees.

So 2 days of heat and that’s climate change? If it was this hot in November I’d be concerned. It’s July.

You guys don’t have ac in your houses over there right? How do you all stay cool during times like this?

As a Seattler, I feel for y'all. Had 47C for 3 days straight, and we have no AC and the same home construction (and typical weather). Brutal.

Pools, cold showers before you go to bed, and water... Oh, and a shit ton of luck. :)

Seems up here in Norway we dogged most of the heat, it's maybe 25-ish here now. Thank god.

I feel for you guys going through 30+, that's almost unbearable for me.

This is nothing. I was in Japan in a worse heatwave in 2018 and 120 people died in Tokyo that week from heat exhaustion. I saw two people feint myself.
90% of homes in Japan have air conditioning though even if it is not central air con. UK it is estimated at under 5%.

I guess it helps that I live in a tropical country but I don't see it as a big deal.

We drink coffee in these temperatures and it's humid as fuck.
Yeah, my Dad, bless his soul served overseas in the far East and tropics for a lot of his military life and always insisted on a cup of tea to cool him down :)

OK let's see who's suffering the most. Here in my part of North Yorkshire The met office is predicting max temps of 34 today and 39 tomorrow but it's already 33 in the shade outside in my garden! At least the humidity is low at 31% so it just feels nice and warm so far.

Any Londoners still alive?
41 max tomorrow in Paris, where nobody has air con in their apartments.

Thank God I have my daily run immediately after dropping kids, even with that tomorrow will be interesting.

It read 31.5c in my car at lunch time in Belfast. Certainly one of the hottest days I can remember in the U.K.

Can imagine going into the Underground in London today must feel like walking into a furnace.

I know most of the world uses C instead of F and the US(and a few other countries) are kind of a loners using F… but I gotta say, seeing discussions of heat waves in other countries makes me become more and more of a Fahrenheit stan. Something about seeing a number in the 90s or even triple digits really drives home the impact of a heat wave. Seeing 30s doesn’t really sell it.

All poking fun aside, here on the east coast, summer has been relatively mild so far,but we are supposed to get a heat wave of our own this week. Upper 90s

I’m so used to seeing C from computer part thermal reporting lol
