UK Heat Wave

Dumb ass comment. I‘ve spent time living in far North Queensland where it’s the same weather you get. It’s easy when you have air con everywhere, and every building is designed to cope with it. High humidity or not, very, very high temps in the UK feel much worse.

You and everyone else saying stuff like this would be moaning like mad if you had freak cold weather… and no central heating to cope with it.

Nagh. I'm saving money on my electricity bills. Fuck aircon. I do it raw out here, baby. Nice and sweaty to the touch.

I'm sat in the garden in just my boxers with my work laptop in front of me, and a four-pack of Fosters in the chiller. I'm still fucking melting, mind.

Hot tips:

-shorts, no socks, sandals during the days
-windows and curtains closed seems to help during he day
-at night all windows and doors open for airflow, i have nets on bedroom windows so the bugs piss off
-sleep fully naked
-sleep without a duvet
-sleep with just a cooling mattress protector
-sleep a bit later as the temp starts cooling quickly from around 10pm and at 1am will be much cooler
-cold shower before bed or dip hands, feet and face in cold water as it cools the body down

Sadly, this one never works in the UK very well, because the hot weather tends to mean the wind dies completely at night.

I tend to just ignore anyone who denies climate change these days. Given the weight of evidence, and the opinion of the vast majority of the scientific community (who don’t care about dumb fucking politics), it’s clearly real… and anyone who actually understands the world outside their own little bubble, and doesn’t just pay attention to their social media feeds, knows it.

It's really just the other side of the mental illness coin, some people embrace woke the other side goes all in on "THE GOVERNMENT IS OUT TO GET ME! THE MOON LANDINGS WHERE FAKE! CHEM TRAILS, 9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB!" Etc.

I had to sit next to one for about a year in an old role, it was an... enlightening experience for me, but solidified that even people with extreme mental illness are able to hold down a job if enough people ignore them.

People need this feeling that they "matter" with things like set roles in society breaking down people try to find that "thing" that makes them feel like they matter to society. For most of us its our Job & Family, but if you can't latch into that then there's this need to reinvent yourself to be unique from the rest of the common "sheeple". It can go either way so long as your not anywhere near the center and therefore normal...

Hence why we get these extremes with no middle ground grey area that all act and claim the same.

Sorry, I thought this was the UK heat wave thread. Maybe the title needs to change if it’s the world we are referring to.

I think I can quite rightly claim that I do badly in the heat, I used to work down south and moved back up North because the summers where killing me.

I used to hate holidays it was just too hot everywhere else, much rather just go to Scotland.

I knew one of your perverts would sneak that in there during the summer days.

It's not an isolated incident in the UK. We're dealing with an increasing amount of extreme weather events right here all the time. Just like the rest of the world. Luckily, we are in a (usually) very temperate climate, and the extremes are easier to deal with than for people living in less benign climate conditions.

Mate I’m just commenting on it being hot for 2 days in the UK that’s all and it being referenced to Armageddon.

It’ll be raining tomorrow and it won’t be mentioned again.

It's not Armageddon.... But it is more evidence to add to the pile about the changes to our climate caused by man made activity.

You're absolutely right that it'll be yesterday's news once the heatwave breaks though. That's kind of the problem.

Dont bother, you might as well be telling a believer God doesn't exist (or vice versa).

People are too far gone in the hysteria. They lap it up like it's their WWIII. I mean fucking hell we had one poster in here complaining about the weather when it was 24° over where they live. :lollipop_neutral:

Netherlands basically has UK climate, u just gotta be lucky with weather here, i must say it has been very good the last few months, little rain, a day or so within a week, maybe august is the same. About the airport i dunno if there was any issue's with it to start with. I do have to travel to canada most likely in 2 months from now, so i hope that's sorted out then. Also i barely follow any dutch news to start with so yea i am a bit out of the loop when it comes to everything on that front.

This is exactly right. To some people everything is a "sign from God" that tribulation is about to fall upon us!

Weather is not climate. A period of unusually hot weather at the height of summer in Northern Hemisphere is not the first horseman of the apocalypse. Its a blip.

And spring/autumn in Dubai.

Granted, I wouldn't want to do it without AC which is the situation for most in the UK.

Memories of driving an hour and a half in 43 degrees in a car with no aircon. Practically swim out of the car when you finally get home.

Suffering is good for the soul… haha

My solution for now, but will pick a mobile aircon unit if this keeps up...

Honestly it sucks all round haha.

Be careful with air draught. Depending on where it hits you the following days will be significantly worse than sweating from the heat. Especially if it hits your ear.

I remember so many times having my windows open in a hot U.K. summer when younger and just sitting there going where the fuck is the wind?

It’s the other U.K. cruel weather quirk. Extra hot weather means no wind. Unless thunder is coming.

Notice the carpet non U.K. gaffers.

Places like Dubai Spain etc will have tile floors to keep it cool. The U.K. usually has thick carpet especially upstairs where you know heat rises.

Oh and it’s usually humid in the U.K. I chose the right time to go on holiday.

I live in a country that's regularly this hot, we all have air conditioning and buildings that are designed to make heat escape. Why would people in a country that isn't regularly this hot, where air conditioning isn't standard, and buildings are designed to keep heat in have any problems with the same situation?

Every time.

Don’t forget even U.K. windows are designed to keep the heat in.

Italy here, after all these years I’m seriously on the fence for an aircon unit. I can’t do anything at home during the day and the nights are pretty bad too with an open window and the fan going all night long.

Comments like this are hilarious to me, given how much Australians complain when it’s unseasonably cold 😂

For the avoidance of doubt:

40 in Australia is like 30 in the UK.

10 in Australia is like 0 in the UK.

The people bitching just bitch for the sake of it, every house in Australia (95%) has reverse cooling / heating.

Right now it’s 6’c outside but my entire ridiculous sized house Is 23c

When it’s summer and it’s 40c outside I set it to 18c inside.

The problem with this is if every home in Britain chucked a three phase 18kW ducted system in the grid would crash instantly and likely burn to a firey mess. The grid system needs a major overhaul for when aircons become a common place in Britain. Or just everyone going electric in a few more years.

God speed but lads.
